Does anyone use a well to keep their pool filled? Any concerns there?
-
Excavation guys were here early. I let the head guy know this wasn’t going to work. “No problem. We’ll move it over.” Pool guy called. He hates me now (got his info here for my first pool). He just asked what I wanted. Told him exactly and he said done. They’re digging.
Feeling a lot better-

Tried to yesterday after I got home but haven’t heard back yet. The plan this morning is to tell him where it needs to be and see where we go from there.

We put a pool in my old house in 2022 and are using the same guy for our new house. Yard is different, but we’re looking at similar design. Contract signed. They came and marked today. It’s freaking us out because it looks different marked out than we planned (how it’s oriented in the yard). They’re coming at 8 to dig but I want to abort everything st this point (we’ll still do the pool, just not sure about the current design). And I will still use this guy. Am I crazy or should I just trust the builder. In 2022 he talked me into some things and out of some things. Pool came out awesome.
We originally started with pool+kitchen area. Ditched the kitchen area for the pool. The pool design was a backseat during the whole process.
I typically don’t get stressed out, but I’m there now. -

Can anyone tell me what this is? St Augustine

Nah we should have ran them out of the building. This is as good as I've seen our D in 15 years.
Should be 40+ to 3 -
Did he not see the qb throw the ball??

They're just faster and more physical than us, what are you gonna do?
But they’re not even close -
My mom has gone down this road. Around 2015 I realized she was addicted to the internet. She would do crazy shit like wake up in the middle of the night and go through FB. She would randomly think of something while laying in bed. Instead of writing it down or just trying to remember in the morning, she would go sit at the computer and google all night.
For the last 4 years it’s been crazy story after crazy story. There’s always an excuse when the prediction doesn’t happen. Blood in the streets was a big one. All these people were going to be arrested and some were going g to be killed. All over the country. As far as I know, that never happened.
She is convinced she is one of the few “in-the-know”. And if you don’t understand, the. You are the one missing out.
Cancer isn’t real either. If people didn’t have surgery, cancer would never develop. My sister just had a friend pass of MS. My mom told my wife the doctors were all wrong and it was Lymes disease. Cancer can be cured with lemon zest. We had a friend whose 7yr daughter had some type of cancer a couple years ago. My mom got all animated that the girl was at MD Anderson. Said she should do lemon zest and it would be gone.
I had to tell her I was done listening to it. I don’t want her talking to my kids about any of it. It sucks. My sister finally told her the same. If I didn’t have kids, I wouldn’t talk to my parents. It is usually extremely stressful to spend time with my mom.-

Dr visit this morning went well. Turns out it’s a strength problem. His shoulder isn’t strong enough and it’s putting strain on the muscles around his elbow. Not tennis elbow, just a strained muscle. Going to do some PT and teach him a routine to help strengthen his shoulders. Huge relief. Avoid over doing it for the next week and he should be good to go.

Yikes. That’s my fear.
When I say he took time off, he still had pitching lessons Wednesday afternoons. Wiffleball and throwing the football was really all we did this summer. Pitching coach is big on arm care. Bad elbow took him out of the majors and he swears it started when he was 10. Mechanics are pretty solid.
Dr tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed -
Wss he throwing breaking balls?
No. All he’s allowed to throw is fastball and change-

He does some band work, but not that much. We had thrown a couple days before to start getting to it. No problems.
Have Dr appointment Wednesday. We’ll see how it goes.-

My kid is 11. He’s a lefty, pitches, 1st and OF. Spring season he threw a total of 300 pitches in 14 innings(all spring). We took half of June and all of July off. Just tarted throwing again 2 weeks ago. Elbow pain. WTF. Took ibuprofen and rested it another week. Just went out to throw and he’s saying it hurts. Dr appointment is scheduled for Wednesday. Only kids I know to have hurt elbows are those that throw all the time, pick up and pitch when their team isn’t playing, and rarely rest. I don’t even think he throws hard enough to get hurt. Just moved teams this fall. Practice starts next week. At a complete loss.

I need to level my yard. It’s St Augustine. I’ve seen a ton of videos with Bermuda or zoysia, can I cut it short and do the same thing? I would replace it all and start over, but I’m looking at ~3 acres. Do I need to wait until spring?

No pics of the blonde with big cans jumping up and down? Slackers.
Came here just to see the replay. Disappointed-

Getting quotes on field fence at property lines. Roughly 1500 feet for 11,700. Feels high but seems like it might be in line. Some of the areas will be through brush and they’ll remove what’s necessary. Any thoughts? Houston area.

I just tore up my front yard to put in a driveway. We had St A and I was considering making a change. The problem is I start looking at cost. I would need roughly 21-24 pallets to cover the area I really want done. I could get away with St A and only need 10 pallets (there is still some st a alive I believe). My backyard is all St A as well but I’m going to hold off until I put in a pool. The driveway went over budget, so I’m trying to keep costs in check. Could I seed and be successful with Bermuda?
I’ll add that my sprinklers run off a well so if I need to water heavy to start that’s not an extra expense. -
So, I noticed a trend to watch that is very worrisome. Big corporate is getting more and more powerful every day. Apple, Google, AT&T, etc have enormous power to dominate markets and set prices. I noticed recently that the big financial firms like Blackstone are starting to exert their own power over consumers. For example, they have a set of bond funds called iShares iBonds that are useful for building bond ladders. They had a tool on their website that made it easy to evaluate the different funds and build a ladder. It isn't a complicated tool, but they've now locked it away from consumers and force you to use advisors to get access to that "expertise".
I can see a near-term future where these mega firms like Fidelity, Blackstone, Vanguard, etc. start pulling information away from the consumer to force you to work with financial advisors. That is not good. Hopefully financial start-ups can fill any informational void these companies try to create.
More broadly, be prepared for continued excessive price hikes every year from these companies that operate in monopoly and oligopoly markets, because our government isn't doing anything to stop them. They are all on the payrolls of Big Corp.
Not to nitpick, but you’re talking about BlackRock. And what they are doing is a problem. They are using their size and ownership to dictate policy within companies that might not be in everyone’s best interest. -

Met the neighbor this evening. Couldn’t have gone better. He apologized for the guy cutting too much. He’s doing a lot of landscaping and going to put some new trees in the area. He came up with all of that without me having to say anything. I’m good with it and glad it didn’t turn into a bad situation.

Cool story warning:
My first house in Austin was built in 1942 and it had a cellar (the crawl space was cleared out under one side of the house). Any way, there was an air conditioning unit for half the house in the cellar hanging from the floor above. AC was probably 20 yrs old. The evaporation line just ran outside next to the house and that spot was always wet. I cut the line and had it empty to a Home Depot bucket. Damn thing filled up in less than half a day. So I bought some drip lines, ran them to a rose garden, bought a small fountain pump, and a timer. I tinkered with the timing and had it down. The pump would turn on and water my roses until water ran down to pump. Timer shuts it off and lets it refill. It ran just about twice a day and the roses were amazing.
