I didn't realize any of the Velaryons were dragon riders, since they're seafarers, and thought that privilege was reserved only to the Targaryens.

His mom is Rhaenys , so he is half targaryen.

So, this is 170 years before GOT and there has not been one single scientific or technological advancement? 170 years ago, an airship set a record by going 16 miles outside of Paris and those box bee hives were patented. If we lived in the GOT universe, bee hive technology would be the apex of human achievement.

more like, GOT was 1400 and HOT D was around 1200.

I’m with you, especially as we saw his cheap move against the hands son and we are led to believe he’s ruthless and doesn’t fight with complete honor.  But yea his armor and helmet was dope.

Weird how the “tech” is the exact same in the GoT/HoD universe. Though it’s nearly 200 years there is still the same village and building styles and designs based of same material and same weaponry. Not even a little advancement in 3 generations?

Were there significant advancement in weaponry and architecture, or difference in way of life between 10th century and 12th century England ?  Some scholars probably can outline the differences.  But to a layman it probably feel similar,  same pox different century

  4. I like how they showed that Grand Maester was at best a middling healer with that scene with Visery's back wound and then being the one making the prognosis about Aemma and the baby's survivability.

Sepinwall’s review killed my excitement for this.

to be fair, the first episode of GOT did have its own share of not glowing reviews either

this particularly did not age well

Sadly, tonight’s pilot—which will likely be the only taste many viewers ever get of the series—is the weakest of the first six. It’s so taken up with making sure everything is set in place that it largely forgets to do anything other than offer up a long series of stilted introductions. It’s smart about only introducing the characters viewers absolutely NEED to know to proceed in the series, but there are still roughly a dozen of these characters, and even with a one-hour, five-minute running time, it’s something of a sprint to the cliffhanger ending that actually kicks off the bulk of the story.

Is fire and blood a standalone book? I can’t tell from online but it looks like volume 1 of at least 2 and I don’t trust that fat fuck to finish it if that’s the case

There will be a volume 2.  Volume 1 covers up to Aegon III regency which ended at 136 AC.  For reference the main series was set around 297-300 AC

2 episodes in and we still havent seen Bernard.   although, we last saw him shutting down and then waking up with what looked like 40+ years worth of dust on him and the whole room...

this season is saying its been 7 years since the Robots took over the park.   maybe hes not supposed to be in this season?

that being said, there is a serious Invasion of the Body Snatchers vibe going on right now.

he is in the promo for episode 3
