Knowing nothing about most of those teams,  I'll say there are plenty games ripe for an upset. Would not be surprised to see Michigan,  ou or lsu go down.

I think Sparty wins as well.  Michigan seems a bit overrated.

I'd bet a lot of money that Notre Dame loses at least one game during the regular season. Their o-line is showing cracks, and Ian Book is getting hit a ton. I predict they lose to USC on the road as Helton has (somehow) not yet lost a home game.

I'll take that bet.   They'll beat USC as badly as they beat Stanford and VT.

But probably not a conference champion Alabama or Ohio State that has one loss.

This.  A 1-loss conference champ Alabama, Ohio State/Michigan is a lock.

100%. Should only need ND to lose since 12-1 TX or OU should absolutely go over 12-1 Clemson due to the dogshit ACC but I wouldn’t trust the committee to exclude a Clemson team that is 12-1 and been in 4 straight playoffs.

This isn't rocket science.  A 1-loss Big 12 team WILL make the playoffs.  The only way that wouldn't happen is if there are 3+ undefeated teams after CCGs are over.  Since 2004, there have only been 3 seasons with multiple P5 teams that were undefeated going into bowl games and even in those years, there were only 2 undefeateds (2005 Texas/USC, 2009 Texas/Bama and 2010 Auburn/Oregon).  If you're in a P5 conference and take care of your shit, you'll be fine.

How did that work out for Auburn in 2004?  A 1-loss B12 will make the playoff only if ND stumbles, tOSU does not win the conference and has 2 losses,  Clemson loses a game, and the SEC winner has 2 losses.  I'd almost say that if LSU beats BAMA and wins the SEC, while BAMA wins out, both will be in over Texas.  If that were to happen and ND runs the table, then it becomes a beauty contest between the B12, P12, ACC and B1G for that final spot.

One wildcard is ucf. Would 2 straight undefeated seasons be enough for the committee to give them the #4 spot over 1 loss P5 champs?

Probably not but they would deserve a spot based on that 2 year run alone.

If Bama's only loss is to LSU, and LSU goes on to win the CCG, both teams would likely get in.

Yes, and don't be surprised to see some home cookin by the refs in Baton Rouge to help make that happen.

  4. I've been to a few games at Sam Boyd Stadium (UNLV) and it's an interesting paradox.  It's actually a great stadium for watching a game, but for a UNLV game, the atmosphere absolutely sucks for UNLV games because it is so sterile and the stands are so empty and their fans couldn't give a shit.   During a Las Vegas Bowl it's actually a pretty fun place to watch a game (especially in the endzones) with fast access to beer vendors.

So the last three time I’ve gone from Boise to Pullman I have seen some random dude playing drums by himself on the side of a cliff. Closer to Boise, but still random as fuck and never seen anywhere else.

Remember when Cal lost to Tech, oh they were demoralized so it didn’t count.

That game was alot of fun and I remember some of y'all on Hornfans warning the Cal fans after the Rose Bowl selection was made that if they weren't careful, Tech was going to hang 50 on them.

For the same reason Baylor(did), TT, ISU, will make it interesting for us and we made it more than interesting for OU. Teams find a way to rise above expectations went it comes to hated opponents with an exceptional season going. It isn't very often we have an undefeated team in the championship.  It's even rarer to have two undefeated going into that game.

Alot of bad teams find a way to stick it to their leading conference  rival the final few weeks of the season. It's what makes college football so fun. Last weekend was the beginning.  There will be  several upsets the remainder of the way.

And don't forget that Tom Herman coached teams along with getting up for big games, tend to play down to some of their more mediocre opponents.   We saw this in 2016 with Houston losing 4 games when they were predicted to run the table.   The main question will be whether Herman can motivate the team each week and keep them from overlooking the weaker opponents left on the schedule.

Boone, NC has the highest altitude of any town over 10,000 people east of the Mississippi. Yes, they have skiing.

I did not know that.  Swamp Loggers and Mountain Men gave a much different impression.

Are you aware that elevation affects climate?

Yes, but NC isn't known for consistently colder tems and snowfall.

PAC 12 just knocked themselves out of the playoff

Yes they did.  And the Big 12 is pretty close to doing the same, unless Texas wins out.    No way does WVU get back in it, they can play spoiler though.
