I've never done the golf car rental thing because I sorta figured it was over the top touristy... but maybe will give it a go.

Growing up in Fort Lauderdale, you kinda get jaded to the whole "Touron" thing (tourist + moron) & 90% of the time when I'm traveling to touristy places my mentality is to try & blend in as best as possible (except when I'm in DC & fuckit - I'm wearing the hat one way or another).

What's the typical cost for one of those for 24 hours (or however they rent 'em out) that will seat 4?

I was of same mindset but a friend who went previous convinced me to do it and honestly was one of the better decisions we made and I guess depends on where you are staying.  For the ones you get in Cinnamon Shores(Top Deck and/or Sage) they are all 6 seater but can be 4 if you flip down the back seat into truck bed.  We drove it everywhere, down the beach and into Port A.  We basically never got in our car once we got to town which kept sand and wet stuff out of car.  We enjoyed the 15mph cruise on the beach while sipping a drink.  Obviously not any more legal than a car but you get the point.

Was about $145-$165/day 9am to 9am.  Digital start and gas powered.  With little ones that forget stuff at house or want to run back home to grab more booze it makes good sense.

  2. I have not been to Port A in 20 years but took the family down last week and we had a blast.  The water and beaches are nicer than I remember and we loved everything about the vibe.  We stayed in Cinnamon Shores and ate 3 meals out while we were there.  It is obvious Port A is struggling like the rest of the country to get people to work.  Service at most places was just OK and the Top Deck Golf Cart guys said they can't get anyone to apply or stay on.  Our first meal was at Dylans pizza within CS and it was good pizza and salad, we got seated pretty easy but getting the pizzas was slow so order apps.  We ate at Grumbles one night and was perfect.  Order at counter and grab a table and drink while you wait.  I was expecting TGI Fridays type meals and it exceeded my expectations, good for large groups and kids.  On our second to last night we ate Isabellas in CS.  Really cool atmosphere and good menu.  At first our server was rushing us and then service after apps came to a complete halt.  Dinner took close to 2.5 hours for 4 people.  Food was good but not worth the $35+ per plate and slow service.  Vibe was lacking as well, place could be so much more.  My wife's favorite part of the trip was our nightly golf cart ride down the beach into Brons for a ToGo Pina Colada.  We will definitely go back and give Texas our money VS 30a.  Next time will try to take a guided trip based on some of the previously recommended services.

I just got a 2021 Landcruiser a month ago.  Love it and plan on keeping it for a long, long time.  I originally wanted an LX but wife drove one and did not like it so we went with the LC, but I'm glad we did.  I hated the joystick controls in the LX.  LC has a touch screen that works far better.  Only downside to LC is that you can't get AHC (hydraulic suspension in LX only) and the ML stereo in the Lexus is better.

Not sure if you know, but 2021 is the last year for Landcruisers in the US.  If you want a new one, get looking ASAP.  Production stops in March or April and then that's it.  LXs will still be around in some form but it sounds like they're dropping the V8 for a twin turbo V6.  Expect to pay close to MSRP for a LC as demand has skyrocketed since the announcement.

If you want a black interior, you should be able to find what you want in terms of color combos.  If you want the Terra (brown) interior, you might have to do some looking.  I'm in CO and had to buy from a dealer in OKC because there were no Terra LCs in the entire state of CO when I bought.

Good luck.  Let me know if you have more questions.  And get signed up at ih8mud.com asap.

Great info.  Have them bringing one by the house today for a test drive and make sure it fits in the garage.

Just a reminder, there currently is a severe blood supply shortage and donors for plasma and blood are urgently needed.  Donation centers are still open and have implimented measures to keep the staff and donors safe during the process. I am making an appointment to donate blood this week, and I hope others think about doing the same (maybe on the way back from a trip to the grocery store since you will be out already)

Also, if you or anyone you know has tested positive for COVID-19 and recovered, hospitals and donation centers are seeking donations of plasma to use to treat other ill patients. A lot of organizations and hopitals in Texas are now able to take COVID-19 related plasma donations, and the easiest way to find out how is to google "[city] COVID-19 plasma donate" or call your local American Red Cross.

Texfan, there are not enough people that would qualify, but saw a potential solution today announced by CSL Behring.  They are partnering with SAb out of North Dakota who can produce Polyclonal Human Antibodies.  So hopefully a therapeutic like this is the solution to fill in where human donors cannot.

Ended up in an illegal bar in Bimini, no sign, no lights out front, just refered to us by a local bar tender...  all the regular bars had closed up and we were still thirsty.  Walked/stumbled in the front door and we were the only Gringos... everything stopped.  I've never felt more uncomfortable in my life.  That lasted 30 seconds and my degenerate buddy walks up to the bar and buys a round for our group.  Everything just went back to "normal".   We couldn't even find the place the next day ON BIMINI!   Just glad I have my kindeys.

RIP Compleat Angler (not that place)

Loved Compleat Angler, drank a few too many Kalik Gold Extra Strengths there.  Didn’t bode well for going off shore at 6am the next day.

Grainger is only place I know that sells them locally, or order one on amazon

Found a place in Garland called Open To Public HVAC parts.  As a reference.  I was quoted over the phone $223 to replace the capacitor plus a $93 service call.  They also tried to sell me some kit that was $500 something all for the special price of $999.  The part cost $43 and is easier to fix than changing the batteries in some of my 3 year olds toys.

Get small shrimp with the shell on so you can slow down the people who’s primary mission is to stuff their face with the most expensive food as fast as possible.

Great advice.  Any good playbooks on a list of ingredients(Sausage, Corn, Seasoning, etc.) and the timing of each?

Truth hurts...The first time I saw Texas play Texas Tech in person, Larry Issacs was playing for Tech and the starting running backs (of note) for the Horns were Roosevelt Leaks and Earl Campbell.  I believe Sherman Lee was also a starting linebacker that year for the Horns.

Nothing has changed since then, Lubbock is still Lubbock, Tech still has to fly all of its recruits in and out after dark and Tech fans will never change.  Always hopeful until the reality of 100 years sits in.  The Red Wannabe’s......as a whole, the most unsophisticated fan base in football....and they live in Lubbock. That’s like having Jerry Jones as a cellmate in hell.....

You sound fun to hang out with and must be pleasant to be around in general.

  9. Monarch Beach.  We took our 6-month-old in June last year and was a great experience.  Easy flight to John Wayne and the hotel offers enough options for eating that you don't have to leave once on property.  Has great pools and large private beach that is cool enough to let your kid take a nap in beach tent.   Get a pool view room so you can people watch on the balcony when you put the kid down to bed.
