Something I was wondering about is the Lisan Al-Gaib being an actual prophecy/fatalistic type thing or being more manufactured. I'm assuming it's sort of supposed to be open for interpretation and like a crossing of timelines/time is cyclical/an illusion type deal.
Just saw this on a Dune FB group (yeah I'm a nerd), it clips all the book lines talking about the Missionaria Protectiva and their practice of seeding prophecies all over. Makes it very clear that this was just one prophecy out of a catalog and the fact that Paul happened to land in a place seeded for Him (Kwizatz Haderach Him) was a hugely fortuitous coincidence.

Wrong thread. The having to wake up and go to airport at 5am making you Surly thread is that way ------>

Multiple visits multiple BOA branches. You go in and there's a "greeter" at a terminal. They ask wtf you're there for, you tell them, and they 80% of the time tell you it can be done at the ATM and would you like them to show you (deposits and withdrawals are most of these)? Or it can be done on the web site. If it needs an appointment they ask if you made one online, and when you say no they graciously check the schedule and help you schedule something on their terminal, usually hours away if you're lucky, in a few days if less lucky.
It isn't the teller telling anyone to get out of line. The greeter fucking actively deters you from being able to get in to the teller line.

My bank branch actively steers everyone toward using the ATM services (or worse, to the app or website), it's like you have to pass their Gandalf "you shall not pass" to be allowed into the teller line. No you fuckers, it's like self checkout, sometimes I'm going to have you guys do the work.

I ran an extension cord from outside the bathroom to plug in the bidet until I could get an outlet run. Looked terrible but no way was I going to suffer while waiting.

I guess it's an interesting thought experiment. Like did the bene geserit just happen upon what would actually come to pass and create a narrative for it or did they sort of will it into fruition?
Spoiled bc bookfag.
SpoilerIt's both, and not intentionally. The BG have their Kwizatz Haderach program breeding towards the being who can transcend. They would have gotten there in another generation regardless of Paul or not, and most probably not on Arrakis.
The Lisan Al Gaib prophecy is directly mentioned and explained by Jessica early on when she arrives Arrakis and realizes that the "prophet from outer world" myth was seeded here earlier by their Missionaria Protectiva, with the understanding that they seed a myth of some sort everywhere they go that a trained BG can play in to to use as a survival/power tactic if they arrive later and need it. Book mentions that she recognizes the prophecy pattern and then shudders because that prophecy is only used in truly horrible environments (you're to understand that BG have some sort of a standard catalog of prophecy patterns and they implant them everywhere as a "safety net" for the future.
It's totally coincidental that Paul the Kwizatz Haderach happened to arrive on a planet that was prepped with that prophecy.

Any body else own the Magnificent 7 stocks.
No. None directly anyway. They're so big I indirectly own huge amounts of them just due to ETF fund distributions. So, being already overweight I definitely won't increase holdings in them by owning directly.

My mom and family friends (no pics of any of them) absolutely love river cruises and only do those now. For them, it's better then taking a normal tour because no flying or bus time (and no security or luggage bullshit with flying), and the overnight hotel time is the boat sailing between destinations, plus you keep the same room the entire trip so you don't need to pack and 'move hotels.' So, more relaxed, and better use of total time. Plus the transit times have lots of boat activities (and food), vs being stuck in a bus or plane.

The hard part about those is having to get a new Credit Card after the card skimmer.
You mean the best part. You tell the fraud dept no you weren't at the car wash and Bam! Free wash!

Brake harder, probably from higher speed. Electrics can only regen brake up to a limit, and then the mechanical brake takes the load. So if you're always braking lightly, your mechanical brakes are hardly being wiped at all.
But if your inner and outer face look different, it's a caliper not compressing evenly and may be the real reason they failed you.

Spoiler
Difference is Rabban's character in the book literally was a muscle minded meathead and the movie quite well matched it, while Chani is a totally different character than the book, one that is less significant and far less developed. It shortchanges her character and does the Dune story a huge disservice.

Also, one of my temp probes has gone bad. It was kind of working, but I couldn't figure out why the last brisket I did was taking so long to get done. Finally on a whim I plugged in a thermoworks probe and found out the brisket was 15 or 20 degrees further along than the recteq probe was reading.
Good rule for anyone using any temp probe, check the accuracy in boiling water every few months.

Is Chinese the universal written language in China and Mandarin and Cantonese is more of a spoken thing? Please pardon my ignorance.
Yes, the written language is a Chinese which is also split into Traditional and Simplified (where some of the most complex kanji letters are...made simpler). The spoken dialects are Mandarin, Cantonese, and literally hundreds of others.
