  1. I stayed at the Le Meridien which was pretty centrally located between Old Delhi and the diplomatic area of the city in early 2018... Pretty sure I paid $250ish for a club level room.

It was nice, clean, etc... I was in India for 9 days and didn’t get sick. Just don’t drink the water and eat at places where you see at least a few other white people (/notracist).

87 Ice Box in Fredericksburg, TX on Washington Ave.   Absolute lovely little dump.

    Every bar in Malone, TX

most every bar in Mingus, TX

Bleacher’s Sports Bar in Garland/Richardson    Used to go there when I was 18 after our softball games when I was playing on my uncle’s team

Some of my family is from... SE Hill County... I’ve been to the Whiskey River in Malone several times.

  3. Yes-The location in Celina is the original and the one in Frisco opened a couple months ago. I actually live 5 minutes from the Frisco location but for whatever reason I always like to go to the original when I try a new spot. Only have a photo of the brisket but I also got the smoked turkey and enjoyed it.. Was a big fan of the bbq baked beans too.. The Mac & cheese was meh. Finished it off with the “Lemonade Pie” which was awesome.

  4. Not even sure if this can be considered “Dallas” but I’m at Tender Smokehouse in Celina right now and can’t believe this place hasn’t gotten more play on Surly. Definitely surpasses Hutchins (which I like).

  5. The new UofH dean is a Rice grad... That should tell you something 😉.

But seriously-I think the UH MBA is probably great if your company (that you want to stay at) is just requiring you to “check the box.” As other posters have echoed, the actual MBA academic content isn’t too different between schools. It’s all about the network and what companies recruit there-in that regard, it falls short.

  6. Feels like it was forever ago that I was in college even though it really hasn’t been long ago... But my younger sister is applying to schools for 2020 and has a good list... Though I think she’s underestimating herself... 3.71 Unweighted GPA from a New England prep school and a 34 ACT... Most of her peers are Ivy bound but she seems insistent on applying early to WUSTL... Hey, great school but it’s still unclear to me what appeals to her there besides the fact that not many people from her school go there. Also going to apply to Rice, UT Comp Sci, and a bunch of safeties if she doesn’t get in to Wash U.

    Best of luck to everyone!!

Been hearing lots of good things about a place in Royse City called "Smoke Sessions". Gonna try it out this Friday, will report back.

I posted a review of smoke sessions in some thread a number of months back...

My impression was “meh” but maybe I hit it on a bad day.

My son got offered the CAP.  Despite high test scores and coming in just outside the top 10% in his class  ( I think he was 38 out of 310), he got denied unconditional.  But he got offered the CAP.   So he went to UTSA, but decided to stay there and hopefully he'll be done next Spring.   He ended up getting a good part time job which was a good driver in him staying put on top of being able to start classes that were relevant to his degree program much earlier (thanks to high school dual credits)  than if we would have done the one academic year at UTSA and then moved to Austin.   And to tell you all the honest truth from the parents point of view, it's been a tad easier on our check book and it's nice to have him within  two hours and some change away vs three plus and having to battle I-35 traffic  both ways  for him to come down or for us to make the trip up.

He is looking to go to McComb to get his MBA if he can get in.  Whether that be right after undergrad or within a few years is to be determined.  He wants to be in one of the major metro areas, like Austin, Houston, or DFW  and if that's the case and he gets a nice gig with an employer who will help him pay for it ( but has to put in some work for a few years to earn it)  that will be preferable.   And he can take advantage of the evening (Austin)  or weekend MBAs the school offers in DFW or Houston.  I think he'd prefer to go straight to Austin and he's already laying  the groundwork to do so.

It’s pretty much impossible to get into McCombs straight out of undergrad.

  10. I grew up in Massachusetts and lots of bars there have a ridiculous rule where they don’t accept out of state ID without a second form of ID. When I go out up there when to visit family, I always use my global entry card as a secondary form of ID.

    Otherwise, it’s useless.
