  1. Great suggestion, I had never heard of them before but started with those 2 songs and was immediately hooked, been listening to them all day today, one of my favorites already, really good shit. I'm digging that Scott Miller too.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned John Moreland in this thread but he's one of my favorites. Before I started down this Fifth on the Floor/Justin Wells rabbit hole, I was on a big John Moreland kick. If you're looking for somewhere to start, go with 3:59 AM, great ass song

Justin Wells - The Dogs is such a bad ass song. He used to be the lead singer of Fifth on the Floor. If you like “The Dogs”, you’ll love Distant Memory Lane by Fifth on the Floor. Couldn’t recommend them any more.

Off topic - don't you have some year-end planning to do? Lol. Or are you not a tax accountant like me.

I'm a tax accountant as well but mostly doing 706 estate work now, gets me out of doing tax projections.

Every year some fluke team wins a major conference championship. Seeing a team like that in a playoff with a chance to win the MNC makes the whole idea a joke.

I used to be on this side of the fence but the more I debate with my aforementioned coworker and the more I read on here, I'm starting to come around on it.  I mean, we have the same system in basketball don't we?  I still like 8 teams as the sweet spot but am coming around to the idea of a more inclusive playoff system

  3. Yeah, I was just generally curious as to what the actual numbers were on that.  And yes, it is complete blasphemy that I can't access ESPN here, currently having to make my damn bowl picks on my phone :(

I don’t know if the Red Hot Chili Peppers qualify but they sure have made a bunch of garbage.

I'm in on this one too, I just don't get them.

Some of ya'll are crazy saying Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, etc.  My first thought when I saw this thread was to respond with Pink Floyd.  But then I realized the thread was asking for shitty bands, not bands that you don't like.  I've never been able to get into Pink Floyd at all, just not my cup of tea.   When other younger people hear I like classic rock (I'm 27), they always go to "oh so you like Pink Floyd".  But no, they're just not my cup of tea.  However, I'm not going to make a fool out of myself and come on here and claim they are a shitty band, I don't like them but can recognize and can appreciate the fact that they are super talented.

  5. Yeah but he was also back in the 2010 class.  ESPN is blocked on my work computer and my phone internet just stopped working so I didn't make it to 2010 but I made it back to 2012 and since then, Isaiah Austin is the only top 3 prospect to not leave after their freshman season.  And he actually did declare for the draft after his freshman season but had to back out and come back to school because he had a shoulder injury.  So of the 18 top 3 prospects over the last 6 years, only 1 of them stayed in college for more than a year and it was only due to an injury.  It's pretty much a given now that if you're a top 3 prospect, you're going pro after a year and that was certainly always the case with Myles Turner. I don't recall ever hearing anyone think there was a chance that Myles Turner would stay for another year to develop at the college level; I know I certainly didn't, I don't know where that guy's getting that from.

  6. Don't know if its been mentioned on here but I just recently started watching I Am A Killer.  Each episode tells the story of a convicted killer on death row through their eyes and those around them.  They have interviews with the killer themselves as well as interviews with their families, attorneys, friends, former cellmates, etc. and it's very interesting to hear their stories and see what brought them to that point and how it's affected those around them

  7. I'm not saying we need to start rebuilding and gutting the whole thing during the middle of the season but it has to be something that needs to be looked at during the offseason.  I'm not even saying we need to completely gut everything but there shouldn't be anyone on our roster that is safe from being moved if necessary. Many in this thread was talking about rebuilding and trading away LMA and Demar not too long ago but we win a measly 3 games in a row, 2 of which were against sub .500 teams and now all of a sudden we're a 50 win team?? It was mentioned upthread that we have 2 All-Stars but it's not like they're the perfect prototypes of what we need to compete in today's NBA.  Sure, maybe we still make the playoffs but do we have a shot to win the title? Not a chance in hell and that's the only goal.  Until we're competing for a title, who cares if we're good enough to make the playoffs....what does a playoff appearance followed by a 1st round exit get us? A little bit of pride?  I'd rather win 30 games and get a higher draft pick that we could potentially build around then get into the playoffs and lose in the 1st or 2nd round and having nothing to show for it.

  8. Yeah, none of that is true.  It doesn't matter how well or poorly the #2 rated prospect in the country plays in college, if you're rated that highly, you're going to college to get your 1 year out of the way and then going pro and everyone knew that from the jump.  I doubt any rational fan with a passing knowledge of college basketball realistically thought he ever had a chance of returning for his 2nd year.  I mean, he was the 11th overall pick in the draft so clearly the people in the know didn't doubt his NBA potential

That is why 8 is the sweet spot. If you go to 10 or more than the G5 will demand those spots and you'll watch a bunch of SEC teams get virtual 1st round byes against the unranked Sunbelt, MAC, and CUSA champs, while we have to play a highly ranked Michigan, Oregon, or some other really good conference runner-up.

That is a good point as well.  FWIW, an 8 team playoff is what I was arguing for with him.  People say, "well if you have an 8 team playoff, people will then just argue over the 9th and 10th teams who got left out instead of the 5th and 6th teams that got left" but I disagree with that.  There's only so many teams that you can legitimately argue can on a given night beat the top team and win it all.  Could Georgia or Ohio State be the national champion?  An argument can be made.  But can Florida (currently ranked #10 in the CFP ranking)?  Absolutely not.  I feel like every year, there are more than 4 teams but less than 8 teams that can legitimately make an argument for deserving a chance to play for the championship and that's why I'm fully on board with an 8 team playoff.

It should be a 16-team playoff - 10 conf champions plus 6 at-large. Sorry if Tulsa is the conference champion at 8-4 - they'll draw #1 Alabama as the #16 seed. (Full disclosure - I'm admittedly biased toward the 16-team playoff because I'm a fan of a G5 school.)

More for the realignment thread, but related - Blow up conferences and go back to 12, 10-team reasonably regional conferences, no CCG and everyone plays everyone in their conference. Some teams would have to go back to 1-AA. Teams are discouraged, but not banned from scheduling 1-AA teams (yes, I still call them that). Independents would need to join a conference.

Me and a coworker had about a 30 minute long debate the other day about this (yeah we probably should have been working but it's a slow time of year for us accountants) but he was arguing for that exact same playoff format.  I'm not a huge fan of (to use your example) an 8-4 Tulsa getting in over a more deserving Big 12 or SEC school but I've come around on it a little bit, it's definitely preferable than what we have now because it still would assure more deserving teams make it in with the conference champs and another 6 at large teams.

  11. Yeah, there was no shot of Myles Turner staying for a 2nd year regardless of what Rick Barnes did.  I believe he was something like the #2 prospect in his class, there was no possibility ever of Myles Turner being more than a 1 year rental.

Jaxson Hayes is also having his playing time limited as well.  Myles Turner averaged 22.2 MPG at Texas, while Hayes is currently at 21.0 MPG so it's not like he's getting more time than Turner to compile those stats so I'd say that's a pretty apt comparison.  Jaxson Hayes is playing a minute per game less than Turner and is averaging 10.3 ppg while Turner average 10.1 ppg at Texas.  Those numbers don't jump off the page at you but that's why you draft players off potential and not college production, and thus why scoring only 10 points against Radford doesn't mean anything for his draft status.

This has absolutely nothing to do with UCF. UCF deserves nothing with that putrid schedule. Schedule better OOC opponents and they will be taken seriously.

How many P5 schools are going to want to schedule a non-conference game against a team that hasn't lost a game in over 2 years (despite who they are or aren't playing)? Do I think they are a top 4 team in the country? No.  Do I think they can beat Alabama?  No, not likely.  But do they not at least deserve a shot?  They've won every game they've played for the last 2 years, there's nothing more they can do than win every game put in front of them.  The CFP committee has sent the message loud and clear....unless you are a P5 team, you will not have an opportunity to compete for the Championship, period.  Not in terms of talent, but in regards to the NCAA structure, the P5 and Group of 5 schools are all at the same level but how is it fair that half the teams are excluded from getting the opportunity to compete for a national championship?

Let's not forget what Boise State did to OU.  They had a "putrid schedule" but they played a very good P5 school and beat them.  Hell just last year, UCF beat a solid Auburn team against which they were the underdog.  Just last year they beat a good Auburn team in a big bowl and they had a Heisman contender for most of the year this year, why shouldn't they get a shot at it?

  13. Finally!  I'd still like to eventually see a 16 team playoff but there's no way there shouldn't at least be an 8 team playoff.  Under the current CFP system, they have made the decision that unless you are a P5 school, there is nothing that you can do to make the playoff, nothing.  You can go undefeated for 2 straight years and still don't get a shot at it and I think that's insane.  Expanding it to give more teams the opportunity is definitely the right way to go.  Is UCF better than Alabama?  No, but if they go 2 years without losing a game, shouldn't they at least get the opportunity?  The FCS has something like a 24 team playoff or something like that, there's no reason the FBS can't have at least an 8 team playoff.

Have you listened to Sturgill Simpson or Turnpike Troubadours?

Yeah, there's a lot more out there that haven't quite hit as much main stream success, you just have to know where to look.  These two in particular are awesome, Turnpike is my favorite country act out there right now

Damn bro, best wishes to your father for a full and speedy recovery.

Much appreciated man, he's been doing a lot better now, will be on blood thinners now to make sure that doesn't happen again now that he is more susceptible to it.  It's a real shitty thing, the doctor told me 1 out of every 3 people die from it and it just comes without warning.  That's a shame what happened to this kid.

Should be helluva night of shred.....

    Nita Strauss is awesome!

  17. Yeah, that isn't him just being a fat ass and gorging himself on food, he's clearly got some health issues going on.

Speaking of Motley Crue, we're finally going to get that The Dirt movie they've been saying their doing for the last 15 years or so.  Comes out March 22, 2019 on Netflix.  They are also releasing a few new songs for the album but I wasn't a huge fan of Saints of Los Angeles and I'm imagining it's going to be something similar.

10 points, 4 boards a game. Managed 8 points, 3 boards versus the mighty Radford <too lazy to look up mascot>. Why isn't he in line for the #1 pick?

It's not about what he's doing now, that's not why players get drafted.  It's about his potential for future growth and that's very evident in Jaxon Hayes.  I was curious about the 10 point game that you called him out on so I checked Myles Turner's game log for his one season at Texas and in 68% of his games here, he scored 10 points or fewer.  But he was still a lottery pick because NBA GMs could see his potential and he's been a pretty solid NBA player, worthy of that lottery pick.

This. Dak Prescott looked pretty damn good his Rookie year.

True, but to be fair, I'd say Mahomes this year is on quite a different level than Dak's rookie season.  Plus, this isn't Mahomes' rookie season, he didn't play much last year but he's already had a full year to develop and learn the system.
