    poppycock.  his performance is inconsistent.

credit where credit is due:  he showed accuracy vs TCU.  also credit due:  TX defense for winning the games vs USC and KSU.

despite the 80% completion rate - most of which were due to backfield throws - he's shown better overall performances (even in Losses!) last year vs KSU, OU, WVU, etc.

most wouldnt stake their ego over their fandom.  i'd rather TX win at all costs.  the problem is, the chances of TX winning vs high caliber team hinges on the high risk that Bad Sam shows up in uniform.

His performance is absolutely inconsistent. Don't mistake my tepid defense of him as some Westlake homer hero worship. I'm not in that group at all. I think Sam is very limited as a QB. I'm just saying he is no longer single handedly snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. He is making just enough plays to win games when our defense plays well. I think that's the best we can hope for this season.

Personally, I like the strategy we have employed since Maryland. Limit the game plan to low risk throws that give our playmakers a shot to make a play, trying to establish the run, and relying on our defense. Unless Sam can improve his down field passing accuracy (not likely this year if ever), that's probably our best chance to win as many games as we can this year to keep the momentum building. Maybe next year Rising, or one of the other pups, can give him a true battle for the starting job. Buechele is just very limited in this offense, although I think with a transfer to the right offense, he could be a decent starting QB.

That may be the most Aggy thing ever said or written.

Hey, it's the other stupid ass thing about Texas fans. I can't refute what you are saying, so I'll call it aggy. That'll get me an internet win! Sam put the team in position to score in half our drives, That's a fact.

    1st drive 11 plays 37 yds punt

    2nd drive 11 plays 89 yds TD

    3rd drive 13 plays 53 yds FG

    4th drive 3 plays -13 yds punt

    5th drive 4 plays 23 yds punt

6th drive 11 plays 57 yds missed FG

    7th drive 6 plays 28 yds punt

8th drive 10 plays 36 yds End of Game

Nothing spectacular by any means considering the opponent, but for context, the 2016 Atlanta Falcons scored on 52 percent of their drives. An all time NFL offense. It was a typical mediocre Texas offensive day.

What the fuck was O'Brien thinking with that first down run play and then not clocking it to save time?  Should have been able to get one if not two more plays in after that big gain with better clock management.  Terrible.

BOB thinks James Franklin called a good play last night.

What? The offense scored 10 points. One TD on a great effort catch by Johnson on a bad throw and a FG. He didn't lead 4 scoring drives.

The other points were by the defense and special teams.

He led 4 drives out of 8 that field position indicates should be a scoring drive. Taking a knee and missing FG's are outside his control. Shitty passes aren't and we should have had more success obviously. However, he didn't play any better or worse yesterday than he had the 3 prior weeks.

can you quote any of this hyperbole from the people who still aren't just completely in love with sam? because i've seen the heisman talk, i've seen the "second best qb in the league talk", and while all of that is ridiculous hyperbole, i haven't seen the same from anyone over in this side of the fence. there's no need for it over here. he's inaccurate; he has a history of poor decision making; he has a history of costly turnovers at the worst time; he is a wholly mediocre qb who, as merril hoge would say, "Texas doesn't highlight their qb, they hide him." Sam Ehlinger isn't out here winning us games, he's out here not losing them. acknowledging all of this does not constitute hyperbole, it's just realism. it's the sunshine pumping fanbois who are going so ridiculously over the top in their defense of the hometown hero.

You're correct in why he is defended. I'm not even arguing the points you've made today, and despite what you think, I wasn't referring to you specifically. Except the really really want to be correct part. That's for sure you. I dig you man, you keep things interesting.

  6. In 8 drives, Sam led 4 that were scoring drives. One miss FG and another kneel down to close it out in scoring position aren't his fault. He is a mediocre passer, he has a history of bad decision making, and I admit I wanted Shane to start after Maryland. But he's played better football the last 4 weeks than at any point in his career. It's a weird time for this thread to take off like it has. Just shows how bad people really really want to be right on the internet. Both sides of the argument have gone off the rails with hyperbole, per usual. Which is why I love this website. It's not a negative, it's entertaining.

I think the comparison of Colt McCoy to Sam Ehlinger, by the Westlake honks, served up as a means of defending Sam Ehlinger is one of the funniest fucking things I’ve seen on the Internet in years. The deadpan delivery. Totally oblivious to the absurdity. It’s just fucking beautiful.

Also, we’re going to see the door on optimism for this guy being “the man” start to fully close tonight. We’re about to be blown out again by a team with less talent and far superior coaching. I’m going with 3 turnovers by Ehlinger in the first half.

    Nailed it.

  8. I'm not gonna lie, I don't want Shack back in the starting lineup. Rodriguez is the better center. Kerstetter is better at guard than tackle too. Cosmi shouldn't be leaving the lineup regardless, he looks like the read deal. So if Shack is inserted, Rodriguez or Kerstetter better be going to the bench.

His presser was arrogant as shit for losing to a fucking basketball school, but the most douchey part was when someone asked about "LJ and Colin looking dominat on some plays and dissappearing/going invisible on others".

His response: "What coverage are we talking about...right, so what coverage were they in when they went 'invisible'?

I know he won't call out players in the presser but jfc is he a touchy lil cu#t.

I'm with you, if he's so fucking smart that he can recognize said coverages and dumb ass reporters can't, why the fuck didn't we adjust and take advantage? It's like he wants us to believe other teams run these defensive schemes that are impossible to score on. If that's the case, we should run those schemes too dumb ass.

  10. I'm still not sold on Tim Beck and Tom Herman can say whatever he wants, but we all know Tim Beck is calling plays and the play caller does matter. What I am willing to do, is give Tim Beck a chance to show improvement. We don't really have any other choice as fans so there is no reason to stress about it until Maryland gives us a reason to. The decision was made to keep him, all we can do is see if Herman screwed up royally or not.

One thing we do know, when Herman was calling plays in the bowl game, things weren't any better. So either Herman sucks too, or maybe we just didn't have the ability to run a good offense last year. Even a guy like the pirate has turned out mediocre to bad offenses over the years because his team just wasn't good from an offensive talent standpoint. I would like to believe Texas should never have such a lack of talent it's impossible to be good on one side of the ball, but I apparently it's harder than it looks. Even with all our advantages. Shows just how thin the margin of error is between winning and losing football. Glad I'm not in coaching, it's a tough job to do well.

Where am I getting it from?  I dunno. How the law works?   Cops often get an attitude if you disobey them.  Cops take objection to anyone who does not do what they say.  And if they say 'don't drop a kid off at that house', then they get mad if you do, no matter that their legal justification is shit.  It's called "contempt of cop".

Look - Zach looks like a complete douche to me.  A real asshole.  But forgive me for thinking that a cop writing a ticket because an angry ex-spouse has the red ass - but no court order - is proof of anything besides an angry ex.    And God bless you if you've never gone through a divorce.

Ex-spouse sudden demands about how and where a kid gets dropped off are worth shit.   Angry spouses do not control the details of how custody arrangements are carried out.  Judges do.   If some cop gave him a "trespass warning" because Courtney did not want Zack at her home, he could do that.  Would it be a valid charge?  Nope.  Why he was never convicted of trespass.   And why not? Because Courtney never had a protective order saying that he could not drop their kid off at her house.   If there was no protective order in place, and there wasn't, then the citation was bogus.  She needed to let him drop off their kid at her house without creating all of the fucking drama.

This does not mean that he's not a wife beater.  He could make Ike fucking Turner look like the junior varsity for all I know.  But the trespass charge?  Please.

That is not how the law works in regards to the charges on Zach Smith. A cop has no legal right to tell anyone they can't go to someone's home/business, unless the home/business owner request the police to do so. Well I guess they could, but it would not result in a criminal trespass arrest/summons. The angry police officer would have to find something else to arrest them for. It's cool you are trying to buy points with your "police power trip" rant, but this isn't the bernard forum from the Shaggy days. Nobody gives a shit about your opinion about police on this matter. It's irrelevant to the story.

Also, show me the court order that says he can only drop the kids off at the house and I'll admit you are correct. If that language is not there, you are throwing a big old fat red herring to explain away the unexplainable. If Courtney says she doesn't want Zach at her home, has the police advise this in writing, and he shows up anyway, he broke the law. Plain and simple. You can disagree with her decision to tell him not to come, but that really doesn't matter does it? Courtney has the absolute right to feel secure in her home and not be hassled by someone she is afraid of. It doesn't matter that she fucked up and had kids with the person. That doesn't give the father of the kid free access to her property against her will.

You are coming off like a real asshole who likes to victim blame over fucking sports. At the end of the day, sports are just entertainment. It's nonsensical to automatically assume Courtney is full of shit because some Ohio St homer blogger got her estranged mother to go on record. McMurphy has shown hard evidence, the other side has just shown personal attacks on the victim. You tell me which one is usually on the right side things when it all plays out.

Actually, he has shown questionable ethics, with numerous edits of his posts after the fact, with no attribution that the post was edited.   The biggest example being his post that Zach was arrested for domestic violence.  Then he changed it to something like investigated .   And so the comment by Urban, per the Buckeye version, was Urban denying the McMurphy story that that Urban knew of an arrest for domestic violence (rather than an accusation by his now ex-spouse).    Then there is the fact that McMurphy reported that Zach had caused a problem - and an officer had to intervene in his dropping his son off at his wife's home.   Turns out, it was not a violation, but some cop with the redass, mad at him for not obeying the cop telling him that he could not do that.  Cops do not trump Domestic Court orders.     So this is a cluster fuck of reporting any way you look at.

Was  Urban replying to a statement about McMurphy's story of an arrest?   I have no idea.   But no matter who you believe, if Urban did not report what he knew when he should have, his ass needs to be gone.   Think what you want, but I'd be hesitant to bet on McMurphy's veracity with real money.    He's trying to be the guy who uncovered a scandal and who got Urban fired, and to make bank on a better job.....or at least more clicks.

He was given a criminal trespass warning and violated it. He admitted he violated it, he admitted Courtney told him not to come to her house to drop off the kid, he went anyway. She took a picture of him at the house. Where are you getting this "cop told him something and he didn't listen" crap from? Cops can't give people criminal trespass warnings without a request from the home/business owner. I've also never seen a court order that said the kids have to be dropped off at the home only.

If he's they guy who's been droppin' dimes to McMurphy, it's a scumbag move, not befitting the HC of an elite university like Texas.  But hardly illegal, or anything like that.  Not sure why you guys are all wrapped up in it.

But Urban Meyer needs to be cleared yesterday? Go Buckeyes! Fuck Texas and their domestic violence victim supporting asshole of a coach! Amirite?

Asked earlier - but what’s the deal with Meekins? Has he had any recruiting success this cycle?

Do we expect him to be a force in recruiting?

Is it possible he and Mehringer are both gone end of the season?

Secondary on Tyler Johnson, Javonne Shepherd, Peter Mpagi, and Tvondre Sweat. Not primary on anybody yet. Who knows how much those 4 were him vs Primary recruiter.

Giles won't and should not get credit for Oliver ever, but I do see your point. Just like with the MEHringer factor though, how much were other forces working in his favor to land those recruits or other coaches outright taking the lead instead of the position coach to insure they'd sign?

    True

  16. I don't understand what Giles problem is these days, but he needs to get back to his early recruiting roots. He's been lead recruiter on 24 composite 300 players in his coaching career. Of that, 10 were top 100 players and 3 were top 10 (Jeffcoat, Oliver, and Brown). He needs to get back to that shit or we need to do something different.  He use to be at least average as a recruiter. It's pretty obvious there is a disconnect at the moment in state.

  17. Devo has way more upside than Harris. Harris is perfectly fine to be a 6th or 7th inning guy on a championship team. He did it last year perfectly fine and was even an all star a couple years ago. However, Devo has late inning stuff. When his changeup is on, he can be a bonafide setup guy. IMO, Peacock is the guy I've been most disappointed in. He was fucking nails last year whether starting or in the bullpen. He's just been average this year. I honestly love our pitching staff if wife beater locks down the 9th. No real weakness.

  18. I don't understand why we don't put Kemp in the leadoff position until Altuve and Correa get back. Batting Bregman 3 and Springer 4 would change the entire dynamic of the lineup IMO.

    1. Kemp 2B

    2. Reddick RF

    3. Bregman 3B

    4. Springer CF

    5. Gurriel 1B

    6. Gattis DH

    7. Gonzales SS

    8. Stassi C

    9. Tucker LF

That would be my lineup for RHP at least. I don't get what Hinch was doing the last few games with the lineup. It's easy to pitch around our few dangerous hitters to get to our AAA rejects.

  19. I've been impressed watching Maldonado the last two years for the Angels defensively. Really good arm. I'm skeptical of his bat, but he's a catcher. Not too many hitting catchers around anymore. I like the move as insurance for McCann.

  20. 2 minutes ago, Fudge Nuggets said:

And with the way Hinch plays some absolutely stupid shifts at times I see your point.  We need guys that just strike out dudes left right and center to take the Hinch thinking himself out of a win out of play.

This looks really familiar...When pitchers struggle with the shift, they aren't hitting their locations typically. The shift is combined with pitching a certain way. Or else major league batters will take advantage. All of them are capable of hitting soft grounders pretty much where they want to if you don't pitch them correctly.
