  1. FWIW, the ump barely grazed the catcher's arm. It's likely that the catcher moved a little to her left because of the batter's obstruction. It certainly simplified the end result.

No second base for you! (The Base Nazi)

  2. Three things:

    1. Didn't we lose a pretty good football player once upon a time to a pickup basketball game? Can't remember who or when...

    2. Thanks for the videos. That fucking offense was purring under Manning. He spread the ball around. He didn't fuck around in the pocket, and the Sark offense came alive. He helped showcase all the talent around him

    3. Maybe this might be a good thread to vent a little on Ewers...

The self-flagellants you're talking about are not restricted to spending time on the QE thread; there are other (almost) equally painful alternatives: hair shirts, scourges, beds of nails, etc. I could go on.

Nah... and about that Ohio State Game. We had the fucking momentum. We were coming back big time and got the ball to what, the one motherfucking yard line. Score there, the D shuts down the Buckeyes and it's on to an easy slaughter of the Irish. I want a do-over this season. We're gonna paint this conference burnt orange. Fucking Georgia fans will be at the airport when our plane lands, on their knees doing salami, salami, baloney.

  4. So, in retrospect, Sark almost pulled off a miracle. His choke in the last series was more egregious than Quinn's.

Mid season Sark decided that Quinn could get back to 100% or so and take us to the promise land. That never happened. He also decided, perhaps the biggest factor in going with Quinn, was that he owed it to him to help in the NFL draft. We saw how that turned out. I wonder if Sark learned his lesson.

Seems pretty clear now that he should have moved heaven and earth to get Manning more playing time mid-season thru to the end, even if it meant going with two QBs. Manning was the guy to get us past Georgia and OSU. What a team that was. What a defense. What a cinderella season it would have been had a raw Arch Manning brought home the bacon. Can you imagine the impact on recruiting?

Wonder if Sark learned anything from it. Feels like Quinn was so mediocre mid-season that Sark decided to give him maximum snaps at Manning's expense. Big fucking mistake. Oldest mistake in the book - letting your backup sit when he could be getting quality reps. Damn.

yeah, VY had a cool and calm demeanor. QE seemed like he was just going through the paces, like a bored HS student, mindlessly going through their day. it was never like, “oh he stays so calm”, it was more like, “he seems like he could take or leave being our qb right now.”

the weirdest thing about this is that i only recall QE ever showing fire or leadership one time, and it’s when he was injured, and he got the troops on the sideline all hyped up while arch was actually on the field balling. i was like, “wtf is that? i’ve never seen him show emotion like that.” don’t think i ever saw it again.

Seems I recall one instance where, prior to the "playoffs", prior to the GA debacle, where Quinn was on the mend, still treading gingerly, when he finally took off on an unscripted run, showed surprising quickness and picked up a big first down. He jumped up shaking his fist.

I waited the rest of the season to see him do that again, and he never did, especially inside the ten against Ohio State. Ten fucking yards and relatively open path to the end zone when a  defender's reaction time is what, a quarter of a second before their brain even registers that he's running... Back to Vince Young against USC. They never had a chance.

Give me speed and quickness, i.e., Arch Manning.

  6. I'm a little troubled by the suggestion that Quinn could have rec'd multiple millions by taking his game to the U of Miami for one more year, but is going to settle for far less in the NFL, and possibly faces being cut by the Dolphins (as happens) - If true, that's gotta be a tough pill for Ewers to swallow. Maybe it will help him get a bit of that killer instinct, that seems to be the biggest problem he had. You could see it in his eyes on the sidelines. If true, he just learned the most expensive lesson of his life. It cost a lot more than a degree from Harvard.

Vince Young had killer instinct. Against USC, he took the bull by the Horns and with seconds left, took it to the End Zone.

I hope Quinn takes that lesson to heart and turns it into a starting role with the Dolphins. He's an accurate short and mid passer. With a good OC, could happen. Good luck, Quinn! Now go make it happen!

Please tell me you aren't trying to imply that Vince wasn't fast.

Fuck no. Vince was damn fast, but I don't know that he was any faster than Manning. That 65-yarder Manning put up early on - nobody could catch him. That's fast.

Vince - everyone knew he was gonna run that ball into the end zone against USC. He just dropped back and his instincts took over. Coulda used some of that in our final game the last two years. A quick burn into the end zone and we take a Natty. Ten fucking yards (or so). Sorta just did some math. A sprinter runs at about 7 yards per second. The defender brain's reaction time is a quarter sec. Probably takes at least a half second? for him to get rolling. If that's true, it's about five yards before the defender's doing shit.

    Manning's quick. Vince was quick.

I fully expect arch to be VY 2.0

Arch is a better passer than Vince and he's fast. Vince owned the quick dash to the sidelines for a ten yard gain. Often he'd grab an additional five or ten and sometimes 30 or 40. But the ten yarder is the key to keeping Arch healthy and keeping the Defense off-balance. If they can shut it down, they're leaving a devastating RB/WR open. If Sark only uses it once or twice a game, he'll be hamstringing the offense. Let's see Arch moving out of the pocket and finding  one of our speedsters five yards behind the defender. Easy Capisi. Conference title coming up.

  9. The refs are lazy and especially the players. Holding is their heroin. On both sides of the ball they are more than willing to cheat. The only question they have is how noticeable was their "hold". All the holding on both sides of the ball cheapen the game and likely have made it far lower scoring and less exciting. Somewhere along the line someone decided that grabbing a jersey was okay. That's bullshit. Let's see how offenses would compensate if blockers couldn't hold rushers. It's evolved now to where defenders are draped all over receivers by the time the ball gets there. They're fucking lazy. It's boring and infuriating. It puts the games in the hands of the refs.

Any fucking announcer who says "let them play" is a moron and should be drummed out of the league. Every fucking game comes down to referee calls or non-calls. Fuck it.

You wanna turn it around? Every holding call (and there wouldn't be many) would be confirmed by quick replay. The second holding call against any player results in a half game immediate suspension, or use a twenty minute penalty box concept. That's for any holding (offense or defense) and early hits on receivers. That stuff used to not be allowed. A team ;plays its heart out all year to have some lazy or crooked ref shit on their season.  The league offices and their refs are a bunch of pussies and cowards. Go along to get along.
