He’s too ornery to get kilt like that. It’ll be some old biker hag stabs him in the parking lot of Maxine’s with a rusty pair of needlenose pliers
No doubt a distant relative of the late John Mueller.

Went to Hurtado OG in Arlington again today with my boss from San Diego. Everything on point today; this location remains superior to the other stores Brandon has opened.
today the star of the show were the bacon burnt ends and the ribs. The Texas Twinkies are top shelf. Brisket was good, and the jap cheddar sausage was as well. Birria taco was killer, one of the best I’ve had. Green beans with chorizo was ok but he should commit to cooking the hell out of them southern style and use a different seasoning meat and more onion. The elotes are so rich; they were fine but I dont like heavy sides with bbq.
Absolutely correct. Have been to the 8th avenue location in FW a few times and decided the drive over to Arlington was a better choice for quality and consistency. Heim has the same issue imho as the Magnolia location is superior to the others, although the westside location is often easier to get served, parking is seldom a problem, and the restaurant has more space.

I’m comforted in the fact that because of the spiritual awakening that happened as a result of working the 12 steps, my relationship with my sister who passed away yesterday was one of love, respect, and affection. While my heart is heavy with her passing, we said our last goodbye here in Fort Worth when she and my brother in law were visiting with a warm hug, kiss, and the words “I love you “. God saw fit to heal our relationship and blessed us both with priceless memories that will sustain me until we meet again in heaven. My extended family here and in my home group will provide the comfort and support I never found in the alcohol. I am forever grateful for the 27 years of sobriety and the equal number of years we became brother and sister again. Please say a prayer for David Pate, my brother in law. He shared 48 years with her and was the best example of a loving husband I had the pleasure of watching. And one more thing-take the time to speak a kind and encouraging word to your family members and friends. Live each day as if it were your last and do your best to have no regrets-that is where I find myself at this hour, filled with gratitude and looking forward to the 7am meeting I will be attending. Peace.

pch is the guy I want to be when I grow up. Happy Birthday, my friend.
And thank you for carrying the message. Guys, I showed up at his home group and he was so welcoming, and it was plainly obvious that many in the room owe their sobriety to him. I only wish I had more opportunity to be able to drop in.
Anybody know of any good meetings in the Washington DC beltway? Those seem to be my new workweek stomping grounds.Anytime any of you find yourself in Fort Worth, please consider visiting the Harbor Club. The 7am meeting gets my day started in the right frame of mind and has been a vital part of my recovery journey. I'll buy the coffee when you get here.

On 4/28/98 I took my last drink somewhere around 3 am. On that same day, I picked up my third desire chip at a noon meeting, got a sponsor, worked the steps in three months, had a spiritual awakening, and have not had another drink of alcohol since. At age 72, I am forever grateful to the members here and at my home group, the Harbor Club in Fort Worth, for showing me a design for living that has exceeded every result I had hoped for in life. Thanks be to the God of my understanding for these blessings and for those who have been so encouraging throughout this journey.

Also - last night my wife’s best friend turned 50 and I was up til 1am, drinking coffee and watching a half dozen drunk as shit Caucasian women having a twerk contest. What I really wanted to be doing was sleeping so I could rise at 5 and be on the water by sunrise on this gorgeous day.
I’m pretty sure I’m about to upgrade boats, as wives are too much trouble.Mandatory pictures of contest?🤣 Sorry, that softball needed to be hammered. If contest pictures are unavailable, pictures of new boat when you get it.

Black Bag. Man this was really enjoyable and it clocked in at 93 minutes. It flowed great and Fassbender and Blanchett had some really good chemistry. I wouldn’t mind seeing them do more movies and have a few of these.
Just returned home from this excellent film. They could've gone on for 3 hours and never missed a beat. I second the idea of this being continued with a follow up.

Sweet Jeebus. Next thing you know, they'll be printing t-shirts and staging a parade for this confederacy of dunces. Theocracy (or Theocrazy) in has no place in education and here is a perfect example of why. The worst part is that the children of parents who embrace the anti-vax philosophy will be the innocent victims of such madness. And it's only a matter of time before the public school system will be forced to adhere to the wishes of the Christian Nationalist philosophy thanks to the continued diminishing of separation of church and state.

Finally got around to watching the John Mulaney Netflix special where he talked about his intervention and trip to rehab. Cocaine was never my thing but I sure could identify with his behavior.
On another note, we finally finished building our new sober living house to replace the one from the 1940s. Got it done between Covid and the nascent trade war. Just under $1M, all financed with gifts and community development grants. I am the money guy, and was holding my breath waiting for obstacles and expenses that simply never materialized. We are blessed with a fantastic executive director and admin staff. The invitation stands, I can get a bed for any man (notwithstanding any felons with violent offenses) who needs a safe place to regroup and live sober.
Here’s our story: https://thehowcenter.org/Bravo on this life saving effort. It's nice to see the St. Francis Prayer in action on the part of individuals and a city that will perhaps truly be the last house on the block.

Tell me about the Red Head Sauce. I love those redheads!
for millions of dollars you couldn’t replicate places like this.
One of the few things I miss about growing up in South Texas are independently owned restaurants like this.

North Hi Mount is going to be our elementary school in 2 years and it is high on the chopping block.
I'm betting the proactive parents at North Hi Mount will show up in numbers in front of the board and quash this insanity. Having substituted at NHM and numerous other schools in FWISD, there are many other choices that make sense-which is scary because the board is not exactly known for sensible choices.

I want to watch season 2, but I can’t remember anything about season 1. I’m now rewatching season 1 first. That’s the good thing about getting old, a never ending supply of fresh entertainment
I'm constantly being reminded by the wife that we have already seen a show but it's like the first time I have ever viewed it.

It helps the rice and beans when you don't apartheid them from the enchiladas. YMMV.
Also I regret to inform you that actually all of the texmex in Austin is inedible. You must have missed the memo here. You're better off eating Korean-Thai-LGBTQ-BBQ-fusion out of a trailer behind a bar that requires a password to enter for $30 a person.
I've been out in Bastrop for a bit now and have grown fond of an establishment called Guadalajara. Mainly for the margs but the food doesn't suck. I'll do the 3 cheese enchiladas and post a pic here next time I'm there. Highly recommend if y'all are ever in the area.
Gospel truth since Dart Bowl closed. RIP.

September 5. Having watched the 1972 Olympics and this tragedy unfold, this film shows a side that I never thought about, namely the broadcast crew and all the workers who had the monumental task as a sports crew to broadcast live coverage of the terrorist kidnapping of the Israeli Olympic squad. The actual live footage of Jim McKay's broadcast brought back memories of when I first heard his words letting the world know about the slaughter. Peter Skarsgaard as Roone Arledge and John Magaro as Geoffrey Mason are outstanding. September 5 is much more tense and definitely shorter than Spielberg's Munich.

Soundtrack to a Coup d'Etat. Excellent doc detailing the killing of Prime Minister of the Congo Patrice Lumumba. Excellent footage of some jazz greats highlight the historical recordings of Cold War activity between US, USSR, Belgium, and the Congo. Oscar nominated for best doc in 2024.

Supposedly Brigham Young sent a bill to the U.S. Government for the care of those kids after they were re-homed back to their families. There's regular hubris, and then there is "I'm a prophet of God" hubris.
Set the bar for all future Televangelists and Megachurch preachers he did. Obviously figured if he couldn't fleece the flock of followers and lemmings that drank his koolaid, he'd give it a shot with Uncle Sam to see if the return on billing paid out. They can't say yes if you don't ask idea that EVERY shyster Elmer Gantry wannabe uses.
As far as the series goes, being quarantined with COVID it made for a nice day to binge all six episodes. Without attempting to validate historical correctness, it was worth the time spent to watch it.

OL recruiting hasn't been great over the last 2 years. Bad omen for the next 3 years.
Especially in the SEC. While our top two running backs will return and Arch will start, Flood will have to work a miracle to coach a decent OL to allow the playmakers to have space/time to do their work. Georgia and Ohio State exposed the line forcing Quinn and the offense into a one dimensional unit. The offense was able to perform well enough against defenses with less talent than top rated teams, but this next year might not be able to be so fortunate. Guess we'll know something pretty quickly since the opener is at the Shoe in Columbus in September.

LOL. One of my four food groups while attending King HS was to walk over to the nearby Roy's BBQ stand (RIP) and get 5 chopped beef sammiches for $1.25. Good old days syndrome brings a smile when I see prices like this at Cooper's.
