This is the best BBQ in the world. Easily. Ive been searching for a place to supplant Truth for almost 8 years now and this is it. If its not #1 on the next top 50, ill be shocked. Ill also be shocked if it doesnt win Most Outstanding Restaurant in America at James Beard Awards this year

Found this excellent when my friend and I did our barbecue run last fall.  Definitely top 10/top 5 worthy in all offerings.

Apparently an Aggie loyalist just attempted a bonfire recreation in lower Manhattan just now.  They are dedicated, i’ll give ‘em that.

There are certainly better ways to celebrate a jury selection.  And does ATM play NYU this year?

  3. Good for you zetjas.  I was told by my first sponsor that the steps are in the order they are to achieve the following: clarity-1, sanity-2,accountability -3-9, responsibility10-12.  I had none of these while drinking nor when I wasn't drinking but no sponsor and not working the steps.  If you ever make it to Fort Worth, look me up at the Harbor Club on West 5th.  I am there regularly most days at the 7am meeting and will buy you a cup of 90 weight coffee before the meeting starts with this caveat:  We request a three minute time limit on sharing to allow as many as possible to participate!☺️

I would think they could conceive some kind of nested pyramid construction -- think "Russian dolls" -- where logs are lashed to welded steel frames, layer by layer so it gets taller and wider out to the final dimensions.  The frames might not be able to take the heat, though.  (Recall WTC's steel structure being weakened by burning jet fuel, but that could be at a higher temperature than wood, I don't know.)  Regardless, it's probably cost prohibitive.  Maybe Jimbo could loan them some money.

That’s why I gave a big chuckle when, during the credits, they showed a letter the woman wrote where she was talking about the Queen.

Something about the eloquence in British accent when talking like a lower class hooker makes it less improper imho.  Laughed until my sides hurt and learned some new rather proper insults to boot.

    Thanks for the rec

Wanted more chicken lady and less cranky old man, but overall enjoyable

The closing scene makes it hard to believe that Olivia Colman played both the Queen and this character, but what a talented actor.

  7. The smashburger at Panthercity BBQ has  double brisket patties  for a buck cheaper.  Wonder if Will Churchill taking over has anything to do with the change in the Heimburger?  As far as their lower prices on meat at Heim, same as it ever was like David Byrne said.

In jail for under a gram? That's fucking stupid.

Multitudes of abused sheep endorse this statement. But then, animal husbandry is a required course.

I swear I’ve got pictures somewhere from driving around a couple days after. The initial touchdown was less than a mile from my apartment in River Oaks, and it tore apart my old HS athletic building and football stadium. I had already graduated in 99 though so it didn’t really affect me.

An defense attorney friend officed on the top floor of the bank one building and his office was destroyed.  Some of his case files were found in Haltom City months afterward.  Giant trees in his Rivercrest home were uprooted and tore up what remained of his roof.

Dan's is cheaper, better, and on my way home from work.

I like P. Terry's better than WB and have for awhile now.

I just don't really have a reason to eat at WB anymore.

Having grown up two blocks from the original store in Corpus Christi where Harmon Dobson started WB, I couldn't agree more (sadly). When the cheese on a double double doesn't melt, it says forget about hot fresh and made to order. Many better options available these days in DFW which makes WB an afterthought.

Pork chop and (free) beans at Cooper’s in Llano.  Only 2 things on the menu worth eating.

And that's being generous with the chop.

    Drive-Away Dolls

The cowards at Universal/Focus forced Ethan Coen and his lesbian wife to "officially" change the title to the above, but they manage to get the original title, Drive-Away Dykes, front and center in the end.

I really liked it a lot, but it's definitely not for everyone and isn't perfect in it's own right either. Kind of a vibe between Raising Arizona and Burn After Reading with a little bit of Fargo thrown in. Pedro Pascal and Matt Damon both have fantastic cameo roles. It's a tight, like, 84 minutes so it's hard to give everyone a sufficient amount of time to shine, but there's still a lot to love in the movie.

Taking Joel's The Tragedy of Macbeth and Ethan/Tricia Cooke's Drive-Away Dykes is really illustrative of how the Coen's achieve their (usually superior) symbiotic films. I hope they make another film or two together, but if they just do solo (or husband/wife) movies from here on, I can't begrudge them too much.

(ETA: I get why Universal forced the change, obv, but as a dyke, I love the original title way more)

Excellent summation re: Raising Arizona and Burn After Reading.  We both came out of the theatre noting the Raising Arizona similarities.  Ethan and Joel have never disappointed and I hope they join forces again sometime as their style is instantly identifiable and enjoyable.

So had a client in town and was going to Panther City but closed on Tuesday. So went to the Hurtado on 8th st. Guest was from NJ and raved about it. He then got a birria taco.

That’s brisket, burnt ends, bacon wrapped stuffed jap, brisket tostada, and Mexican cornbread with brisket, elotes and jalapeños. It was great.

They do good work and have gone there on Tuesday as well when PC is closed.

We will be in the area for a wedding in a couple of weeks and staying at a hotel in the Forest Hills area. Looking for a place that 10+ people can go for dinner on a Saturday night. Nothing fancy, just somewhere with decent food and can accommodate a bigger group. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Prima Pasta at Granbury Road and Hulen has a large dining area that can handle a party of 10+, but it is BYOB.  Los Vaqueros on the N. Main in the Stockyards has great Mexican food.  Panther City barbecue on E. Hattie street is a top 10 choice in Texas Monthly with a good bar. No Frills Grill on South I-35 has a good bar and burger selection. All of these places are within 10 miles of Forest Hill.

  16. The Zone of Interest-an interesting adaptation of what it must have been like to live next door to one of the deadliest Holocaust camps during WWII.  The film has won numerous awards which are well deserved and is up for several Oscars in the coming weeks.
