  1. Azteca is going to be absolutely bonkers. I don’t think Tata can remain the manager if they lose. The team will be out for blood after 3 straight Ls.

Can’t see Greg pulling out anything but a 4-3-3,  but he could very well bunker down and play for a draw. A loss and the Panama game is huge.

Definitely see Zardes and Acosta starting in Azteca. Would not surprise to see Dest on the bench for a more defensive option. Yedlin?

Hard to keep Pulisic and Aaronson out of the 11 right now. Gio won’t be back in time.

Assuming it’s just hamstring only. Give him off till August and is hopefully ready next year.

Thinking towards Azteca, any reason Pefok doesn’t start up top for us in Azteca? I realize it’s Gregg, but with the speed outside and countering ability I can’t think of a single reason.

You answered your own question. Looking forward to Zardes starting in Azteca!

With these shitty conditions, for all three matches, Cameron Carter-Vickers absolutely should have been called in.

Between US Soccer and fucking Gregg Dumbfuck Berhalter, we have endured one moronic decision after another.

In hindsight, on a narrow pitch in Hamilton, Canada against a side that pushed us around in the good weather of Nashville…

We should have had the in-season/ in-form bull of a CB, Cameron Carter-Vickers starting at one CB spot… probably with Richards, who is also in-season.

We should have had the hunchback bull, Jordan Morris starting at one winger to be a burly, disruptive force up front.

Either Ricardo Pepi or a gargantuan Jordan Pefok at the 9 after Daryl Dike got hurt, but Dike’s brute strength would have be great on a tight pitch in shitty weather.

And looking back, the direct runs and constant work rate of Paul Arriola would have been a good idea to start the match with the offensive subs of Pulisic, Aaronson, De La Torre, and Pepi/Pefok waiting on the bench in case we needed an offensive spark in the second half.

Before the game I would have shit if I had seen that lineup, but looking back, that would have been the smartest lineup to put out there. Especially now knowing that the ref wasn’t going to call any fouls on Canada.

Also, heads should roll at US Soccer for scheduling Minneapolis-St Paul, but they won’t. 🤬🤬

Whatever the question is, CCV, Arriola and Morris are not the answer for the USMNT.

  4. It's also ridiculous that the excuse was travel time. As if flying charter from Columbus to Hamilton to Minneapolis is more taxing than Charlotte, Atlanta, Nashville or Northern Florida. Greg consistently outthinks himself. The camp was in Phoenix, and apparently flying to Columbus was fine.

Smash and grab and get the fuck out of there. We better not concede because we probably aren't getting 3 points if we do.

    Oh no.

He's the only other CB on the roster.

  6. So tonight we've got:

    • Acosta in for Adams
    • Chris Richards out, Zimmerman reportedly less than 100% with a hamstring. Do we see Miles Robinson + Mark Mckenzie? I'd still think a 80% Zimmerman plays.
    • Do we get the Zardes Trifecta? I think Pepi will start with Pulisic and Weah up top.
    • It will be below zero in temp and with wind chill somewhere around -26. Absolutely scandalous that USSF chose to put the game here.

Honduras sucks. In normal conditions this should be an easy win. Let's see what magic Greg can conjure up.

In other news, this is why Leeds was pushing so hard for Aaronson:

One would think he's gonna stay in the RB family and move up to Leipzig.

It seems like a lot of fans and pundits expect Pulisic to bail this team out and frankly whether he's in form or not he isn't good enough to overcome Berhalter's idiocy on a consistent basis. When he doesn't score or assist or have multiple shots on goal the narrative turns into "the US need more from Pulisic" when the reality is that the US needs more from it's manager at this point. Soccer isn't as simple as your "best" player playing well every game. It isn't basketball. Pulisic is not some European superstar. He is a very talented winger that has an overall skillset that few if any players from this country have ever possessed. When he plays kind of meh like today but plays 90 minutes and still does as much or more to create chances than any other forward on the team it doesn't mean that he needs to be benched or played just as bad as anyone on the team. It just means that he didn't have the type of game where he singlehandedly altered the outcome - and newsflash for some people - Pulisic has those games all the fucking time. So does every player in our pool right now.

I'm not coming after you or even overly defending Pulisic as I'm plenty fine calling it like it is for any player on this team. Frankly - I don't think he's our best player right now. But Weston McKennie isn't as popular and doesn't get as many clicks. I'm just tired of seeing people all over the internet - including journalists for major networks - consistently make every poor performance about one or two players when the actual issues are much deeper and frankly at an organizational level.

We don't have a players or talent or Christian Pulisic issue. Thomas Tuchel is pretty comfortable playing CP all over the pitch for huge stretches at a time for one of the best clubs in the world - whether he's scoring goals or putting in incredible performances or not. We have a dipshit manager issue and it's highlighted by not putting players in a position to succeed or help with their confidence, not putting the right players in the game, and having a general lack of awareness and competence that should be expected of any manager in the world at this level.

This is exactly correct. He was a middling mls coach (zero trophies, won 38% of his games) who thinks he is the smartest guy in every room and is totally out of his depth.

Our game plans comprise of a bunch of ponderous possession with the end hope that “Pulisic can do something” on offense and “hope Tyler Adams cleans everything up” on defense. It’s laughable. We started 5 guys who are starters (I know Pulisic and Dest may not qualify) for Champions League squads and lost to Larim, Buchanan, David and 8 guys named Gord.

National team football is not club. It’s about establishing an identity and implementing simple tactics in short windows that put your best players in positions to succeed. Does anyone think we are doing that?

Remember when Greg started and wanted to play Tyler Adams at rb and run everything through him? Fun times.

  9. Greg is a walking mediocrity as a coach who consistently has no game plan. We can’t score in any first half and are always behind the eight ball hoping that one of our generational talents pulls something out. It’s why pulisic is always pressing. Same with Mckinnie who was playing 1 on 3 half the time today.

USSF should demand a higher standard, but as long as the $$$ keeps rolling in, they won’t.

I'm still puzzled as to why Arsenal wants Matt Turner. I'm also puzzled why Ethan Horvath has been exiled from the USMNT.

I agree on Arsenal. Horvath can’t get on the field at Nottingham Forrest, so I think that ship sailed.

  11. Great save by the dude who looks like he’s playing in a Sunday league.

    Reffing is approaching peak CONCACAF.

Looking forward to Greg looking down the bench and saying “Paul Arriolla is what we need now” around minute 60.

Did Pepi fuck Berhalter's daughter or something?

When you have a guy who hasn’t played a meaningful game in 2 months and has always been a stiff, you have to play him if he played for you in club years ago. I don’t make the rules.

  13. Our midfield was/is extremely strong and deep. MMA is the most talented midfield in CONCACAF although for a big single game I'd still favor the experience of Guardado and Hererra. I wish Musah's club played him centrally, but in a year, that trio will should be even more formidable. Would love to see Busio get more the squad as he's getting real time in Serie A for a bad Venezia team (so is Tanner Tessman, who's only 20 and a physical beast when I've watched their games).

Acosta is great as a veteran sub that can cover DM and full-back and I can understand Roldan and Lleget as experienced pros to close out a game, but there's zero reason for Zardes, Morris or Arriola on the squad other than to include MLS-ers. I can't fathom thinking Zyardes gives you more than Sargent, Dike (hurt for a while), Pefok, or frankly Jozy. I'd take all of those guys over Ferreira too. I guess Zardes was Greg's guy in Columbus, so we'll always get him on the squad. He plays hard and holds up play well, so that's something.

One of Morris or Arriola will be replaced with Gio when he's back to full health, but we have such depth on the wing I can't see why those two are there. I hope Hoppe gets back to his Schalke form and finds some time with Mallorca cause he adds a totally different dimension than other options at wide F.
