    Rooting for a meteor.

You are an SEC team now, you root for your whatever-brethren.

This article's argument sums up how dumb college football has become.  You should care because ND@A&M might get weighed against in the race for an also-ran playoff slot worth for maybe a 5% shot at the national title.

"That’s seven spots gone. Five to go.

∎ From here, the likeliest scenario is either Notre Dame grabs an at-large spot and leaves about nine SEC teams fighting for the remaining four bids, or the Irish suffer at least a couple of losses, and they’re left to wonder, oh, what could have been if not for a Week 1 loss to the Aggies?"

  2. The Horse Soldiers could go in the ashamed to enjoy thread.  John Ford's grand hamming it up makeswhat is, maybe, the 15th best John Wayne movie into a smilefest.  Does it even count as a war film?

Spurlock was not a documentarian; he was a reality TV developer. SSM is full of questions and shouldn’t be looked at as fact. He never released his food logs and his claimed diet has been questioned. Once he admitted that he had been a daily drunk for three decades a few years afterwards it’s likely his shitty liver, kidney, and blood numbers probably had more to do with his alcoholism than eating McDonald’s. SSM2 lost its district deal due to his admissions regarding g his sexual misconduct on his various shows.

Some professor experimented on himself and lost weight eating only a McDs but calorie controlled.

But that doesn't disprove the point.  A single mom in a town where there is only burger joints providing fast food will be going to them too much, regardless of theoretical possibilities.

South Bend makes College Station look like Austin…

I hung on all the reviews of that era from both Shaggys and Landthieves.  No one, until this week, complained about the ND campus.

South Bend as a city only recently began to regrow an 'identity' as a town.  Between Studabaker and about 2010 it was just a bedroom community located near ND.

I am more worried about Elko than A&M talent in the nil era.  At Duke last year, he beat Clemson and had us dead to rights but for a 4th and 16 scramble.

Also we mauled our current qb Leonard at the 4:00 min mark.

The solution, in my crazy proposal, is to split the 2 big revenue sports (football & mens basketball) out from the NCAA and out from direct oversight by the universities. You would then create a sports franchise (minor league) that will be located in the home city of these universities, the university would license the school name/mascot/colors etc and also rent facilities for the teams to use for training, practice, residence, and stadiums for competition.  There could be agreements to allow players to attend the school, and I am sure there are alumni groups that would love to fund this set up and have an ownership stake in said affiliated sports franchise.
I've thought this for a few years, as a way to deal with Title IX issues, but really with the changes brought by NIL we are miles closer to this model being actually viable..

FWIW - this model would only apply to the top divisions of football and hoops at the college level; DII and lower would still be able to maintain being under the Athletic Dept. In all honesty, playoff eligible football and top level mens hoops programs have become defacto minor league sports with NIL money for "salaries"

Lots of bugs and details to something like this, but it isn't as far from what is actually happening as it was only 2 years ago.

That model is my idea for an alumni league.  Think how many people would go to an Austin Horns game on summer nights, featuring players who just didn't make the draft or are angling for a practice squad spot.

It might get tricky with unlimited transfers where someone attended 5 schools and has no degree.

Title 9 is going to fuck this whole deal.  When the women's rowers demand to be paid the same as the starting QB, he'll sue for not getting his value.  And they'll sue for equal pay.  Rock and hard place.

13 hours ago, Horn of Gabriel said:

Title IX doesn't give a shit about the market.  The university level administrators and their Federal guidance are seeking "equitable" treatment for females vs. males from the university -> student.  That's why we have a women's rowing team with literally dozens of fans that recruits any female willing to sign up on campus; so we can have the same # of scholarships for men and women.  Doesn't matter to the government that there isn't an equivalent female sport to football...85 scholarships are 85 scholarships.  Also won't mater to the government Title IX administrators that the market value of the starting QB is higher than the volleyball libero's...$1 to him has to be $1 to her (note: IF it's coming from the university) or it's not Title IX compliant...

The only way I see to work this out is to pay everyone equal, and establish that as a "floor" to keep the schools from getting sued: "See, we're rev sharing with our athletes!  And yes it's Title IX equal!"  Then, keep the NIL collective structure in place to pay the market value out to those whose market value actually dictates it.  Anyone dreaming all of this will end up under the school umbrella is wrong, there's just no way to manage it save a huge legislative overhaul at the Federal level which won't happen.

I can't tell if NIL is a part of Title IX or not.  The journalists are discussing NIL as though it was a part of the athletic budget.

But otherwise T9 is not an insurmountable problem.  The schools figure out what % they have to pay to the gender racket and cough it up.

Doing a rewatch. I can really only make it through the first 6 seasons. Season 7 sucks ass. Are any of the other seasons past the 6th any good? If not then I’ll just keep bathing in the glory that is seasons 1-6

No one remembers numbers, what was the theme of the season?

    i.e.

Drug dealers took a few rewatches but got better.

CIA's bitch season was back up to speed.

Veronica Dean, not as funny but great characters.

The first wake up season was good, the rest not so much.

It’s kinda wild how CUSA went from being one of the better mid majors to far and away the dregs of FBS so quickly.

It seemed like their territory overlapped with the MAC and Sun Belt but they didn't have the programs with a bit of tradition.

Also fuck your diploma from Southern New Hampshire University.

New Hampshire is way too fucking small to have a north, south, east or west. It's just fucking New Hampshire

I'm from New Hampshire, and had no idea what they were talking about.   Turns out Manchester College rebranded itself for more online appeal.

It's no Texas, but the region of NH that gets the Boston media has a different feel than the hick towns.

Sorry, but whatever breakaway happens, there will still be cupcakes to pad wins at the top. They may take less in their share, but they’ll still be there.

That inequity can be seen all the way from the SWC.  The small schools still get to pad wins for UT et al but no longer got a seat at the table.

Hopefully they get into the dark side of his work; especially of the problems his actors had.  Oscar ended up living in a dumpster.  Kermit developed a nasty intravenous drug habit.  And David Bowie?  He's dead now.

That was the opinion on our boards.  Marist was good in certain situations but would probably still be available in later rounds.

I felt like his talk show style just got old and tired (at least for me), but this looks like it could be worth watching.

Ron Goldman cares, and so does the jury that awarded him a civil judgment against OJ.
The criminal jury found that the prosecution had not met its burden of proving beyond a reasonable doubt that OJ caused the deaths.

The civil jury found that a preponderance of the evidence established that he did cause the deaths.

There’s a huge difference in the standards of proof necessary in criminal and civil proceedings. You’ll care if you get in a wreck and the other driver isn't prosecuted or is acquitted by a criminal jury, but you can still recover from him in a civil suit.

Lolawyers.  WE can't put the killer in jail but we can sure sue him for all he is worth.

and then never collect a quarter.

the documentary is fantastic when paired with The People Vs OJ SImpson, the Cuba Gooding Jr Movie. Perfectly spells out and explains everything about the case, both before and after. I fully understand why he was found innocent after watching both of these. He deffo 100% did it, but the entire case was lost the moment Mark Furman could not say he didn't plant evidence to frame OJ Simpson because he had to plead the fifth otherwise he would have been asked if he'd ever planted evidence to frame anybody in his career, of which he likely had. If it's a question of reasonable doubt, they had done a good enough job of showing how systematically corrupt the LAPD was from top to bottom that not hearing outright "We didn't frame him" could constitute reasonable doubt.

I love the part in The People vs OJ Simpson where they go to his house and they've changed all the pictures on the walls, haha.

    He was not found innocent.

Syntax. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty.

Yes the conduct of the government established reasonable doubt against itself.  It seems to be a question of individual philosophy, Should you vote guilty or not guilty if the gov rigged it against the actual criminal?

  16. It irks me that we never beat Simpson; only two games because he started at City College.  OJ cut us up in 67.  68 was a tie despite the Irish pressing the juice to 55 yards rushing.  Ara Parseghian's offenses had two first half leads and two second half goose eggs.

The closest to justice would be the 1969 Rose Bowl, where #1 Ohio State came back, after OJ's 80 yd td, against #2 SC with defensive coach (DC!?) Lou Holtz.  The articles say that Simpson threw an interception.

You can tell what generation you are by answering the question, Why is OJ famous?

Most everyone says "football"   few could answer the follow up, what team did OJ play for?

    Spoiler

No respect for San Francisco City College.

So far my favorite answer came from a couple of 20-somethings at my globogym, He was the guy found not guilty of murder because his lawyer was Kim Kardashian's father.
