Fuck that shit.  I've done LAX-NRT in the front of a 777, and I've done similar length flights in economy.   I landed at Narita fresh as a fucking spring daisy.  The economy flight I was dead for a day or more after arrival.

    I have 2 months. I don't give a shit about a day.

  2. I am all about value. We have flights to HNL in November on Southwest for 8800 points each. From there in February will be flying Delta to Japan roundtrip for 45,000 points +$50 each (if I don't find something better by then). I really don't give a shit about the airlines. They are just a utility to get me to Hawaii and to Japan. I would rather spend the money on food and entertainment.

  3. The only line I draw is the safety of a small, foreign airline.

We took 5 Ryan Air flights last winter and the first one I pretty much had a panic attack during takeoff. I was thinking with what we paid for these flights how much are they paying their pilots? But all of those flights ended up being great.

I don’t know if I could fly on a discount airline based out of some third world country though.

I love Italy, but Italians have probably been the most unfriendly group as a whole that we've experienced while traveling.

Yup. Definitely a culture shock coming from Texas but next time I know what to expect and won’t give a fuck.

We took a cheap Ryanair flight from Malta to Italy. In front of us several rows before takeoff there was a ruckus. There was an Italian guy standing up at his seat yelling at a lady one row behind him across the aisle. She got up and was yelling back at him. She had a little kid with her. Flight attendants came back and were talking to them. They kept yelling at each other using some hand gestures. No clue what they were saying but it had something to do with the overhead luggage. I joked to my girlfriend they were probably married. We are in the airport waiting for our shuttle bus to come. There is only one other family in there waiting. It was them with their kid.

  5. IMO, she is a cunt. A guy has to act on signs that are given from a woman. If a guy misinterprets those signs, ruining his life is not how you react. You tell him, "woah, you are going to have to stop right there. This isn't where I want this to go." It is very simple. For goodness sake, it is a phone call, not an in-person physical situation.

They are much louder than Jeeps and the people who drive them tend to go at a much faster rate of speed than other 4WDs.  And they aren't road legal, nor do they have insurance.

    Fucking hate those things.

You need to spend more time around them if you think people aren't hauling ass all over the place in them.

I am really talking about in town where people want to ban them. On the trails, I do agree with you more of the OHV drivers do go faster than they should be.

I'm a hiker, so I don't generally frequent the same places they go.  I took a jeep up to Imogene Pass a couple of summers ago and it was great, but I do have some qualms about jeep/ohv trails through the wilderness.  Is what it is I guess.

Lake City gets a lot of hikers from the Colorado Trail (Denver to Durango) come through. They sit by the road at Spring Creek pass and hitch the 20 minute ride into town to stay a night or two and then get a ride back. We always pick them up when driving by there. Got 6 of them in at one time once. Yeah almost had to 'seinfeld' the vehicle after that one. One of the churches has a weekly Sunday hiker dinner and a hiker center where they can go and get snacks and stuff. Also it is a stop for bikers doing the Trans-America trail coast to coast.

How are they different from Jeeps in their annoyance?

I don't mind them. I have been on the loop a few times in other's side by sides. They are better than jeeps for the trails. They are more open and you just get a better peripheral view of everything.

But there are people that hate them. The main thing is the noise. They are a lot louder than jeeps. The other thing is the sheer number of them. They come in groups. They kick up a lot of dust. Certain people don't like the type of people who generally ride in them. American flags, etc. The detractors say they speed and drive stupid, but I think they are just looking for things to be annoyed about. They aren't driving any faster thru town than any other vehicle.

    Lake City.

Hiking and fly fishing are why people go there.  It's isolated, beautiful, and doesn't have much for tourist amenities but there are 5-6 14ers within a half hour of there, and (allegedly) kick ass fishing.  The place isn't overrun at all, and has a few bars and restaurants to hold you over for the evenings.

Riding on the Alpine Loop in OHV's or jeeps is the other reason people go there. Since Silverton banned OHV's in town starting last year, they have all gone to Lake City. July and the first few weeks of August are very busy now. I have been in Lake City since mid-May and leaving in October. Some people will love it, some people will be bored af.

I will say there's a surprising amount of Buc-ees clothing when sailing from Galveston.

Take from that what you will.

Been on 2 cruises. 1 out of Galveston, 1 out of San Francisco. SF was noticeably worse, though leaving that city was pretty amazing, with the view of the city, passing Alcatraz and going under the Golden Gate Bridge. But it was ghetto AF.

With that criteria my first recommendation would be Barcelona. Great city for adventure with a lot of options, depending on interests. Sagrada Familia, picasso museum, cathedrals, etc if that's what you enjoy. But also great neighborhoods, shops, and food, if you just want to wander. Montserrat is also a good day trip. Barcelona has beach options, but since it's a big city, there will be more people. Tons of options for a quieter beach all along the coast as you go south between there and Valencia. Tarragona is about an hour south, which would make a nice day trip from Barcelona. You could spend your whole time in eastern Spain along the mediterranean, and do a bunch of different things, if you wanted.

I love Madrid. Big city with some of the best art museums around, if you like that. Also the palace, cathedral, and other cultural things. Also great food from street food to Michelin star restaurants. You could day trip to Toledo.

We spent 2 days in Grenada because we wanted to see the Alhambra. We loved it. Not a whole lot more to do there, but there are markets and tapas places there.

Seville is fun with cathedral and moorish alcazar the two main attractions. But also a great city with narrow walkways to wander through. You could do a day or so there and then head south to Cadiz, which is on the southern coast. Could do beach time there.

Those would be places to start looking at, but depending on what you're looking for, you could look at the rioja region in the north and visit Bilbao. That would be close to Pamplona and San Sebastián, which is on the northern coast. There would be hiking and other outdoor options there.

I've done trips where I rented a car, and others where we've done only public transportation. Trains are great.

I'm happy to provide more specifics, or share what I can on places I didn't mention, that you might be interested in.

We did Seville last December. Got an apartment for a month and absolutely loved it. Was amazing time to be there because every night there were thousands of people in the streets and there was so much to do during the Christmas season. We were able to do short trips to Cordoba, Carmona, Cadiz, Ronda. But I had heard summers can be pretty miserable. If I was going in the summer, I would definitely keep that in mind.

  12. In April, will be doing 14 straight days on boats. Hawaii to Vancouver, then Vancouver to Alaska. Not a vacation, just a way to get from Hawaii back to the mainland, see Alaska, and pay for room and food for 2 weeks. I go in knowing what it is all about. I actually liked the dining room food on Royal Caribbean the one time I went. I would not do this on Carnival though.

In downtown Kyoto, there were no long lines.  If you didn't have a reservation somewhere, you were going to have a hard time getting into any decent place.  Perhaps that's something unique to Kyoto and not something you'd see in a larger city like Osaka.  But it was definitely the case in Kyoto.

As to @McCroskey's query--I'm happy to answer any questions based on my experience this Spring.  I don't know anything about Osaka or Nagoya, though.

What are your thoughts of the weather in March? We are thinking about going around then.

correct, only stopping once. my plan is to eat brunch at burnt bean, then a bite or two at the rest

Well you are doing Burnt Bean right. First time I went, we ordered brisket, ribs, sausage. Had a taste of someone's barbacoa and menudo. Holy shit. Only go back for brunch now and just get the barbacoa and menudo. I am sure the BBQ was really good, but don't care.
