This quote from that thread probably has a lot of truth to it when it comes to BAMA -

"We have a booster club called the REC. They distribute the payments and dont even try to hide it. We got members at the SEC office, NCAA, NY Times, FBI. All over. Also helps that our opponents, like LSU, have ADs who don't do anything about this blatant corruption"

They definitely got a member in the NCAA.  The president of the NCAA is in Saban's hip pocket.

But they'll still have to sit a year and learn a new system. There's an opportunity cost.

Isn't their ways around sitting a year?  I was reading the kid thats transferring from Georgia was hiring a lawyer to try to get out of sitting a year whereever he lands.

  3. The Rising transfer stings but at least we have coaches with proven track records of successfully developing QBs for this offense, and so far, the staff has been good at evaluating talent so I feel more confident we will be OK without Rising.

My thought exactly. We've got two incredibly dangerous Swiss army knife players coming in, so I'd love to see some creativity in how they get use.

We got a couple of Percy Harvins to go with our own version of Tim Tebow now...

I think you’re right about other SEC teams looking the other way on bagmen.  The problem a&m is going to have is when they recruit against former Big XII teams.  If Patterson, Riley, Herman, etc ever gather enough evidence to turn it over to the NCAA, I don’t think they’ll hesitate.  This is probably something a&m hasn’t thought of.  I can see them walking right into this.  Let’s not forget Chip Kelly and Willie Lyles.

Isn't  Sabans buddy/ ex boss running the NCAA now?  They seem to ignore a whole lot of smoke that comes out about the SEC in regards to dirty recruiting; unless, it is one of the nobodies in the SEC like Ole Miss.  Would they consider A&M a nobody or turn a blind eye?

  6. Im excited to watch Brown play for us.  Looks faster and more slippery than Ingram.  Reminds me of Jamall the way he can get lost in a big pile of bodies and somehow slip out the other side and then off to the races...

  7. I see more of Major Applewhite (the cockiness) in Sam than Colt.  Applewhite was a far better passer and Sam is better runner, but I see Sam growing  every week into a better QB.  If he can get to where Applewhite was as a passer, he is going to be a damn good QB with his ability to run...

If Texas walks into the TCU game with this attitude the horns might lose by 4 or 5 touchdowns. They can beat TCU but they will need to play at a level we haven’t seen them play at this year. Or TCU will have to play like dogshit.

They are going to have to play at a level they havent played at in a few years to beat TCU and the coaches are going to have to bring their A game as well.  Its time for Hermann to put up or shut up and come up with a great game plan for the offense.

Dude presented you a sound data backed argument and your response is to fuck up their/there/they're? TFOH.

But since you were either incapable of understanding or just too lazy, according to CFBAnalytics.com 2009 Texas adjusted offense (i.e., accounts for strength of defenses faced) ranked 4th while 2012 ranked 7th. One of those years featured Colt McCoy and GDGD while the other featured Case McCoy and Harsin. You can figure out which is more impressive.

That is like comparing apples to oranges.  2008 and 2009 were maybe the best football years overall in the history of the Big 12.  The in conference schedule was tough in those years.  2012?  We lost to just about every decent team we played with Harsin as OC.  We lost to OU, we lost to WVU, and we lost to TCU....You see the theme with Harsin at OC? ..I can't think of any game we won with Harsin as OC that we should not have won?  Yeah, he didnt ever have the teams or QBs to work with that Davis had, but neither did Leach at Tech, or Mangino at Kansas, or Pinkel at Mizzou, or Gundy at Okie State,  etc.  There was a lot of coaches in the Big 12 that won a lot of games with supposedly inferior athletes... The wins we got when Harsin was here were over cupcakes. We barely beat Baylor and Kansas in 2012.

Well, look up the stats and compare them to the 2009 Texas squad. Then factor in the immense advantage of the ‘09 teams terrific special teams and defense over the 2012 Texas team. Harsin did this with Case McCoy and David Ash behind a stiff offensive line and guys at skill positions. This offense production was on par with that 09 bunch with Colt McCoy (who was rumored to have the flu early on).

Then do you recall how badly the ‘09 offense played against OU and Nebraska. The 2012 inept defense distorted your entire recollection of what Harsin did.

I recall that OU defense was one of the stoutest they have had, and Nebraska was due to a terrible Oline letting Suh dominate them....There is no way Harsins offense or anyone would have stopped Suh that day with the same players on the Oline.  Harsin was OK, but think there are way better out their.  My biggest complaint are his plays took way to long to develop, kind of like watching our offense now move at a snails pace.  Harsins offense had a lot of smoke and mirrors but was not hard for decent defenses to stuff.

Good points, Sam is not great, but he is far from our biggest problem on offense.  It's knee-jerk shit to blame him.

Here's what some of you guys really need to fucking accept.  Texas high school football is not the savior you've been led to believe it is.  Nationwide recruiting with some guys from Texas is what is gonna win/has won national titles.  Neither your high school team back then (with you on it), nor as it stands right now...is anywhere near as awesome as you wish it would be.

The championship landscape has passed Texas by.  Let's get ready for the next phase.  And by that, I mean let's show Coach Herman where to hunt Snipe

Any decent coach could win a lot with just Texas players.  The biggest problem in the last several years has been our DLine recruiting has been crap.  The only recent Dlinemen that might have sniffed the field in Mack's better years out of our recent teams is Poona.  We will never dominate again until they get better players on both lines.  And a lot of them from Texas we should be getting are ending up in the SEC. Our Dline hasnt scared any QBs or opposing teams for several years since Malcom Brown went pro.

Shane Buechele as a true freshman threw 21 TDs and almost 3,000 yards. Best true freshman QB performance in school history. He was clearly hampered by injuries much of the year. We had a Doak Walker winner who was a backup the year before.

Gilbert’s system exceeded my expectations in the first year. He knew what he was doing, had a philosophy but was limited by young players, low IQ players, injuries, and a mostly talentless offensive line.

Since I’ve been watching UT football beginning w Mackovic, I’d rank him top 2 OCs

    1) Harsin

    2) Gilbert

    3) Mackovic

    4) Major

    5) Davis

    6) Beck/Watson

Admittedly Mackovic and Davis have a larger sample size and showcased some awesome offenses. But, they both suffered major flaws. Davis, especially, was exposed when he didn’t enjoy overwhelming talent advantages. Advantages we have not seen since 2008. Advantages he didnt have before he got fired by Iowa. Advantages he owed Mack Brown and Tim Brewster.

Mackovic’s offenses outsmarted themselves and made too many mistakes (the number of turnovers, penalties and negative plays were staggering). But he was an architect of pretty damn good offenses.

Harsin and Gilbert made chicken salad out of chicken shit. I’m confident both would rock shit if they had Vince Young, Colt or Priest, Ricky or Shon Mitchell with guys like Dan Neil blocking for them. Harsin knows attacking football. Gilbert knows that system.

Keep in mind, they’re king of the ants on offense since the Wishbone was adopted here. We owe most of our amazing offensive success to great recruiting, outathleting teams and once in a generation players.

I don"t remember Harsin's offense ever being that impressive against anyone with a pulse on Defense.  We lost to OU and looked like the chicken shit you speak of every time we played them with him at OC.  The plays developed so slowly we could barely move the ball against a speedy D.  I'd rather have Gilbert any day...

It is pretty baffling. Like, Tom Herman knows so much more about football offense than I ever will. I have no doubt in this. He’s put together championship-caliber offenses. There’s no way he doesn’t know our offense sucks total balls. And yet I see nothing to indicate he’s getting any closer to changing that fact.

How do we know it wasn't Urbans influence on the offense at Ohio State that made Hermann look like a genius? They only dropped off a little under Beck, and we know how bad he sucks at offense.  Urban cut him lose as soon as he knew Beck was useless, but they still won a lot of games even with Beck.

  14. So it sounds like no matter who Herman would hire at OC, they aren't getting the reins to the offense.  Good luck hiring someone decent to join in the crowd sourcing cluster of play callers.

Or,  you do like Stoops established a decade ago and run offense that these kids have already been training in for 4 to 7 years before you ever get them on campus. It's not rocket science. Let the HS coaches be your farm system.

Or, he could do what Stoops did for the better part of his career and hire an  actual innovative/  good Offensive Coordinator....That doesnt seems like rocket science.  He could also bench players like Stoops would have when they suck, and possibly move players around like Stoops did to other positions when they might be better for the team at a different position.

Yeah, I’m done blaming coaches. Unless you’re of the mind that there’s only like 5 good coaches out there in which case we might as well find new shit to do with our time on Saturdays.

OU has been good for decades because they attract guys with a chip on their shoulder. They show up from day 1 and outwork us. There ain’t shit to do in Norman. I’d like to hear what the level headed people around here attribute to their success? A neutral observer would think we have every inherent advantage over them but they’re the far better program this century.

These kids cant even do the basic shit right on offense like lead a receiver with a pass to let the receiver get a running start.....Even a simple dump off pass.  That is coaching.  We need a coach that gets up in their grill for stupid simple shit they cant do right...That's what is missing.....Watch Saban on the sideline, the dudes not happy with screwups even when they are up by 50...The guys that work for him are constantly coaching and correcting the players on the sideline...
