Please note saban's headset assault on the sideline of the OU game. That mans crazy.

I wonder if all the players love him? Because thats important,  right?

Odd thing is there was no such outburst last night.  Saban didn't seem to have any energy, nor did his team.

  2. I'd actually prefer Herman to continue calling plays.  Orlando has the D under control and we should have plenty of QC types who can assist with game/clock management oversight.  Herman is where he is largely due to his abilities as an OC and play-caller.  He needs to keep doing it.  As for Beatty, I want him on staff more for his recruiting chops in D/FW than anything else.  The ability to help TH out on the offense is a bonus.

    Owens a 5* ??

He's a freakish athlete, no doubt.  Reminds me a bit of Sean Taylor in terms of size/athleticism.  But he needs a good bit of coaching at this point.  If he takes to coaching he could be an absolute star in 2-3 years, no question.

Turnover even when things are not going well is a two-edged sword. When things are going well, replacing even a weak link can have at least some downside. Unless Herman (as given 30,000 foot advice by CDC) thinks Drayton is hamstringing us with Evans, I have difficulty seeing him fired. He has a good rep, has presumably been involved in building relationship with our prime RB target (who happens to be in-state this time), and is not obviously our weakest link. Meh may be meh, but our WRs are playing well, and we just reeled in some national top guys at the position. His seat doesn't look hot from where I am. Giles and Herman go way back. The last two B12 DL of the year were ours. We have not been landing 5*s, and losing Leal stung, but Giles doesn't look like he is doomed either. TH has apparently taken over calling plays from Beck. TH has expended some PR capital downplaying and nearly outright denying it, though. Beck has seemed to be plus in recruiting, QB development, and game preparation. After watching that opening drive in the Sugar and seeing the final result, it would be hard for me to imagine that Herman will fire Beck. Demoting him likewise would mean backtracking in a way I find unlikely. That leaves W.

He was half-fired last year. Hand is the name our recruits know. Cutting ties to him is highly unlikely to sink any boats for us. Hand is the one coaching up our line. We are tilted toward too many offensive guys. It may be couched as a promotion to senior executive vice president for football consultants, but I think he is very likely going to be involuntarily removed from our official coaching staff. And I think only he is.

Excellent synopsis and makes the most sense to me as well.  Question is who would replace him?  Beatty seems like the most obvious option, but that would maintain the imbalance between offensive and defensive coaches.

Did you not even read the link above?

I read it.  Didn't see any likely HS options listed.  Mostly a bunch of guys we're trying to get to visit or still evaluating, but next to none of them what I'd consider likely.  With 4-5 spots left to fill there aren't many obvious adds to the class.

Glass, Stewart, Henry, Cam’ron Johnson, Barlow

Reading the latest updates, sounds like our interest in Glass is waning.  Henry isn't a HS prospect.  Noted on Cam'ron Johnson.  Haven't read anything about Barlow of late.  I'm sure the staff has irons in the fire as they're pretty good about keeping a lid on info.

demariyon houston didn't sign with anyone during the early signing period and i can't imagine that ou has room for him after the WR haul they brought in.  any chance the staff circles back to houston?

    Hopefully not.

I don’t think Herman will allow any narrative that includes firing. If Mehringer or Warehime happen to find another job, then a replacement will be found for them.

The problem will be if they can find that job.

AFCA going on right now... let's cross our fingers they're doing some serious networking.

The main issue I had is the lack of communication of where to go. IDGAF if the seats are taken. Show me where I need to go to get a seat. General admission doesn't work when you just let everyone in with no direction. One girl was pushed down the stairs because people were trying to climb up. They seriously had to send medical personnel out because she busted her nose and was bleeding from the forehead.  A chick 3 rows up just pissed where where was sitting because she didn't want to lose her seat to go to the restroom. What's different now then in 95 or 05 is the ability for students to buy alcohol in the stadium. You could always smuggle it in but there was always the chance of getting caught and you couldn't smuggle in a lot. Now no one gives a fuck which makes the student section drunker and more stupid than ever.

When you combine the ability to buy alcohol with a lack of coordination, shit goes down. The student section started hurling shit at the field. I don't know you, but that is not the fan base that I want. They were even throwing stuff onto the field even after the refs warned us that if we keep doing it that it would cost Texas a penalty. They will almost certainly throw stuff onto the field against USC and it could cost us the game.

Never attended a concert in the pit?  There's a price to pay for having a spot on the rail and only those completely serious about the event get there.  That's the point.  Get there early, make friends with your neighbors (so they hold your spot if you need a bathroom break or concession run) and police yourself.  There's always going to be a level of frustration with those around you in this type of situation, but that's the price to be paid for getting up close and personal with the game.

What's most amazing is that this year's team seems to be worse than last year across the board. Haven't seen improvement anywhere.

O-line definitely seems better and the running game has way more talent than last year.  Major step back w/o the Punter and moderate step back defensively.  We need the offense to make more than a moderate improvement from last year to approach 8 wins.

In fairness, CS lost to Kansas at their absolute lowest point... had he not lost that game I think he would have gotten a 4th year

Lots of differences between TH and CS.  Generally speaking, I think TH has the overall program more organized and headed in a better direction than CS did.  Just saying, if the records are similar and he isn't gone we're going to get pounded by national media for CS being fired.  Don't want any part of that and truthfully three years is plenty to show marked progress.  He should be gone if the records are similar.

Also, it's only fair to give Herman four years.  After all, in his third year the players from his first "real" recruiting class will only be sophomores.  You would essentially be firing him for failing to perform with players he had no hand in signing.  Who is to say how he performs with another coach's players is in any way indicative of how he can perform with his own players?

CS was only given three years.  If TH has a similar record after 3 years and he isn't gone as well we're going to be in a world of hurt on multiple levels.  One of which will be the perception as to why CS was actually fired.  The national debate on that topic alone would be off the reservation stupid.  No thanks.  Similar record after 3 years and he has to go.

Well actually, I was invited to comment by Born Burnt.  I can tell you that I never liked him while he was here.  Unless you are a big time donor, CDC doesn't give a shit about you or your opinion.  God forbid that you ever have a "re-seating" at DKR Memorial...you'll see how much he cares about alums and season ticket holders.

Hmmm... doesn't sync with what I see from him on Twitter.  He's constantly responding to people with suggestions for improvement or criticism.  If I'm not mistaken he already initiated a re-seating effort and managed to assuage those being negatively affected.  Dude is remarkably available and appears to be very motivated on behalf of the average fan, not to mention seemingly very transparent.  I like what I see so far.  I suspect at the end of the season he's going to force THs hand on some of his assistant coaches as well, which I'll like even more.  So far, homerun hire in my book.

  14. Pros:  All the tertiary things surrounding a program, such as facilities improvements, social media, recruiting staff/organization, etc., he seems to have going in the right direction.  Appears to be run logically, professionally, and in some areas with some vision.

Cons:  Either didn't have the pull, insight, or was too insecure to go after a more seasoned coaching staff.  To make matters worse, after a year of evidence, he was reluctant or unwilling to make necessary changes.  On offense, his forte', it's pretty obvious Shane or Cam Rising are the better options for *this* team.  Our WRs are the strength on offense and the O-line does look improved, especially at pass pro.  At the end of the UM game they were dropping 8 and daring Sam to throw.  He threw 2 picks.  TH is paid to understand which QB fits the team better and made the wrong call.  Just as he did last year when the O-line was in shambles and it was obvious we needed a QB who could tuck it and go.

Outlook:  TH is approaching this like he has a 5 year contract.  Reality is he's got 3.  Hopefully he understands that because if not he'll be gone by the end of next year.

the track coach is also supposed to be a great hire.

My guess is he'll insist on some major changes to the staff, just as he did with GP 2 years into their B12 existence.  Meachum/Combie were the two new hires and TCU went on a roll for the next several years.  If TH isn't willing to do that, time for a new HC.

That cackle/giggle was weird as fuck.

In over his head was my main takeaway.  Secondary take was the near complete focus on the recent events as opposed to the game by the media.  We'll see how it shakes out on Saturday, but this doesn't feel like a team ready to go play a game.
