I recommend looking up videos on YouTube and learning things like sweep picking, tapping, pinch harmonics, dive bombs, etc..... you know, the basics.

    Jk. What did you get?

i took lessons for a while but it was really hard to fit into my regular life. I still suck but enjoy trying and learning.  There are some good videos on YouTube showing the basic open chords and simple 3 chord songs you can pick up.

I started with a simple beginners guitar books from half price or guitar center.  Learn the common simple open cords (like C, G, D, E) and practice switching between them.

    Good luck

Trust me, I get the joke.  I asked a guy at work and he said to start learning chord charts. But, to learn them while I practice Travis picking.  Its the right for the music I listen to. Then he showed me tabs to a song with Travis picking and a 3 chord progression and said "see, its easy". So I went home and looked up Travis picking. I spent the next week very upset because I couldn't learn to Travis pick in 3 days.

Nothing special at all. A fender T-bucket 400 CE with what they call an iced tea burst finish. I probably could have done better for my 350  (inc tax) had I bought something without electronics on board. But it holds a tune. If I ever learn to play it, I will go pick up something nicer. But it seems to me that it was about the right place for me to start. It came with a capo, a few sets of strings. I ended up thinking that the D'addario custom lights were the easiest to play without any buzzing. Then I went and got a set up on it.  So far I am having fun, but 's pretty fucking hard. Maybe I shouldn't smoke so much grass before I pick it up every night.

  2. I want to learn to actually play this thing.  Not a song or a song opening. Actually play it.  I have one problem. I work nights and have been looking for local instructors willing to work with my schedule, they wont. I don't blame them. Where do I start to learn?

Around, sort of.  Moved to Jacksonville Florida, Kind of got tired of the shag and all of its newfags about 4 years ago. Realized it wasn't the newfags.  It was me. I was going to meltdown like derka or taz. So, I left the internet for a while  Worked on me a lot.  Not sure, maybe I was just growing up.  I lurk here a bit, off and on.  But mostly I keep myself busy these days between work and hobbies.

  4. This guy is an Austin legend. Before he was murdered he willed his guitar to to Townes Van Zandt. Towns later, in an interview, stated that he and some other friends dug up the body of Blaze Foley to retrieve a pawn ticket. The ticket was in the shirt pocket he was wearing when he was buried so that Townes could get the guitar out of pawn. Van Zandt played the guitar regularly.

He has been covered by Willie, Merle Haggard, Townes van Zandt, John Prine, The Avett Brothers, and Lyle Lovette John Prine said that he wished he could have stayed up all night writing "Clay Pigeons".  He had a short volatile career that took place mostly in and around Austin in the later 70's and most of the 80's. He was banned from performing in most Austin venues due to constant inebriation. He couch surfed, lived in dumpsters, cars, and occasionally would sleep on the venue floors after a show.

I am really surprised that nobody here listens to him.

  6. I think my reef is coming together.  This top down pic was taken under 18k lighting (approximately) with white balance adjusted in post processing.   My seasons greetings/ chili pepper coral is growing fast.  Very fast.  All of my montis have taken off.  Caps, digits, and undata's.  If i could just get my orange tail puffer to leave my acros alone they might grow also.

A little planted tank I set up for my daughter's class.

You are right where my planted tanks look great.  In three weeks from where you are I end up with almost dead plants and a bunch of algea. Meanwhile I can grow high end acropora and montipora.  Makes no sense that I cant grow plants.

r0z8zt.jpg* no idea why tinypic is rotating that 90°

DIY mame/reef glass airdrive skimmer for nano. I bought everything instead of using shit laying around the house so that I could put together a real cost of materials. 25 dollars to build one including the air pump.

Looked at a 40 gal setup package last night. Then looked at things that could go in it. Then ended up looking at a 65g setup, which turned into looking for a 125g-150g setup. Guess that’s put the stop on it for now. (I’m a tang freak, and apparently can’t get past it yet.)

What’s up with the damn rimless craze going on? Seems like every decent setup is rimless. Are there tops you can retrofit on them?

Oh I know.  I have the same disorder.  I can get online to find a new single stack 9mm for under 500.  The next thing I know I am playing pros and cons between an Ithaca or STI 1911 at around 2k.   Fish tanks are no different.

I dont know, but my lfs just set up a 120g cube.  It's one of the best looking tanks I have ever seen.

  10. I went ahead and pulled the rapid led par 38 and put in a AI prime HD.  It will be here tomorrow.  I am having a thought.  I rescaped because something spooked my candy pistol and I found him on the floor.  Whatever, fed him to my Toby.  But I am thinking with the new rock work being arched, I can crank the AI up and push the nem to the underside of the arch.   Then load up the top and keep the light cooking at around 500 par. This RBTA isn't too fond of anything over about 300 par. It usually settles into areas getting less than 225.  I may give that a go and see if i can get it to sit still.

  11. Reef keepers,  what are your thoughts on a RBTA in a 14 gallon nano?  I have an RBTA in my main reef right now.  It splits every 3 months give or take.  I have started giving them away and trading them in for frags.  The original nem is pretty sedentary as long as nothing changes.  It grows to about 3.5 inches, give or take a half inch. Then it spits again.

Because it stays small it is probably giving me the false sense of security that it would be ok in my nano.  Currently I have the original and 2 splits.

Also, if any shaggy reef keepers want an rbta let me know and the next time it spits, its yours.  Just pay the shipping.

Very nice setup! Wish I had the reserve to be able to do something on the nano, or even nano-ish scale. Unfortunately I always wind up way bigger than I started out planning.

Appreciate it.  I lease a condo and am bound to 40 gallons or less.  So i put in a 40 breeder peninsula (actual volume 47.5 plus sump) with a 30 long sump between my living and dinning room.  Thats my reef.  I have a 48 bow front for a prison tank that needs to be broken down but its full of good live rock, so its running.

The nano was because my female clown died in the reef.  The male clown was none to impressed with having a new clown in there when i tried to replace her.  So the nano....

  13. Fucked that all up.

Well, Hell. I go on vacation for a week and this happens. I expected a few barncats to go missing while I was gone but I didn't expect one to come back from the dead. Welcome back.

Fuck barn cats. At my cousins place off of 53rd between ridge and Tyler, we used to tell kids who didn't know any better that it was good luck if you caught a barn cat.  Harsh life lesson taught.
