Take a look at the profile here. Graham wearing a Baylor polo, studies at South Carolina, nothing really aggy at all. I think Graham may be some rando in South Carolina using gpt and a texags script to cash in on those rubes.

Graham is also a forever student at South Carolina.

I can see him cashing in on aggy.   Their fan base slurps  up Billy Liucci’s drivel.

LOL.  One of my four food groups while attending King HS was to walk over to the nearby Roy's BBQ stand (RIP) and get 5 chopped beef sammiches for $1.25.  Good old days syndrome brings a smile when I see prices like this at Cooper's.

Great lunch alternative!     What’s funny about that Cooper’s price is chopped is supposed to be the cheaper option.    The sliced version must be $40 per pound.  Pass, and I mean huge pass especially at Coopers.

Are these BBQ joints owned by aggy alums or boosters?    If so they need to update Smolik's in Mathis because it's now owned by Greeks who own the U&I Restaurant and Nikos  among others in Corpus.  I don't think they are aggy, but who knows?

And even under the previous owners, it was decent BBQ.  But it's not destination place exactly other than being off I-37.    Personally you go the Butters in Sinton for much better BBQ.

RedBird had an infuriatingly slow line. Like, i wanted to kill the owner but damn was he nice (and chatty). Took almost 2 hours to serve 35 or so people.

    No, not joking

You haven’t been to the Burnt Bean I see?   Talk about slow and inefficient.

Speaking of lines….  How fast does the line move at Leroy & Lewis?  It’s been on my try list for awhile and I will up that way in a few weeks and want to give a try finally.

If you are counting on the SEC doing any kinda of scheduling that makes sense, don’t hold your breath.  This is the same conference that had a&m and Georgia play once in 13 year?

I never understood how that gap was facilitated and allowed to be overlooked.

When were they DII? That would have to go back more than 40 years ago, because they were 1-AA in the mid-80's.

Early 80’s.  Made the jump to 1-AA right after they won their last national title in D2 in 1982.  That was also Jim Wacker’s last year at SWT.

Saban told him to be wary of the job. Saban's personal experience with one group at Texas trying to hire him while another group successfully cock blocked the hire caused him to caution Sarkisian on the difficulties of getting everyone on the same page.

Sarkisian should get a lot of credit for the turnaround, but having the support of Eltife and Del Conte, and having everyone aligned has been extremely helpful. Along with outside groups taking initiative with NIL even while the athletic department was uncooperative. It's been a team effort.

But if the coach isn't the right fit, then none of the rest of it matters. It feels great to have the right fit in place.

Along with you, I had a lot of question marks, and the first two seasons sure helped to support that.

There are a lot of favorite parts of this interview, but one of the big ones that helped change my perspective was going over Carroll's history prior to USC, his first year there, then Saban's coaching history prior to taking the Alabama job, and his first year there. I knew Carroll was a lucky win for USC as a coach. Mike Garrett was a terrible AD for USC. No one wanted to work for him. They kept striking out on candidate after candidate. Then Carroll threw his name into the ring and Garrett grabbed at it like a drowning man lunges for a piece of driftwood.

Saban coming out of Miami was a huge can't miss hire for Alabama, though. No one realized how dominant he'd actually be - how could we? - but everyone knew he'd be great. When LSU hired him it wasn't that obvious, but he'd done some good things at Michigan State.

But I feel like I didn't have as good a perspective for Sarkisian's outlook until he went over the respective careers of his great mentors like he did.

I also loved him talking about sitting down with Monte Kiffin when he was at USC with Lane Kiffin on staff. Or talking about the coaching trees out of Mike Holmgren on one hand and Mike Shanahan on the other. And any time Kyle Shanahan's name is brought up I always think about how he came to Texas because he wanted to learn offensive schem philosophy from Mack Brown and Greg Davis. It's like something out of Ripley's Believe It or Not.

Your second paragraph is great observation.   Of course the big money donors voices are still heard, but they and a clueless BOR and Admin  are not micromanaging the ship like they did in they did  under Deloss  and certainly in the period between Deloss and Del Conte.  CDC was given a standing order to do what he needed to do to right the ship not only with the football program, but others too.

One thing I liked is him being grounded and not acting like he is something special. There was no need to mention the USC's 4th and 2 call but he owned that mistake and didn't spin it as anything else. Nobody asked him about him being jobless but he has mentioned it multiple times, and those of us who have gone through layoffs know how uncomfortable/embarrassing it is. He could act as a big shot UT head coach but he repeats that he is not ever going to take this job for granted. All these reveal more about character than the platitudes from "personality growth" guru TED talks. This doesn't mean that he is perfect but he is climbing the right mountain, occasional slips notwithstanding.

All of this!   This is why I’m a Sark fan.  You can read into this interview as well as others he is humbled to be the Head Coach of the University of Texas and he’s not taking it for granted.   He wants to be a generational type coach much like Saban and he has every tool at his disposal to do this.

Most of us who are around Sarks age have been through the dumps or might be currently going through them like I am with the layoff thing.   Then something happens and maybe unexpectedly on the good side to get you out of that situation and with time you look back and see where you where you were at and where you are now and don’t want to go back to that low point.  Sark has a good thing going in Austin and doesn’t want to go back.

    Gonna be a fun conference.

Yep.  To think some of us have seen Texas State grow from a DII school to now a member of what was  or is a power conference (don’t know if they still have that status?).  Crazy how much things have changed in San Marcos.

As someone who recently moved into Central Texas from East Texas, this was a good read.  I admit having seen the various signs for different Black's BBQs and being confused so it's nice to have that story clarified.

I heard the family was at odds, but this really filled in the details or at least some them.  Certainly there is more I bet

    Hopefully this doesn’t end horribly.

  11. I’m not a cruise fan after doing a few in  the Caribbean/Mexico.   BUT I would make an exception for doing a Mediterranean and Scandinavia cruise in the future.  Upside with those two destinations is you make stops at Ports almost everyday save maybe one for a “day at sea”.   And the ship will arrive early and leave late due to the proximity of the next Port or even overnight.   This gives you ample time to explore on your own vs taking packaged excursions.

  12. This thread went Surly.  From Men’s Volleyball to Chicken nuggets.   Never mind the UIL did nothing to revert back to old split division playoff format  for football so those of us in 5A and below can get rid of some of these ridiculous district set ups

    Please hurry up football season.

I think this is the first 787 hull loss? Early footage shows landing gear down and struggling to gain altitude.

This is the first 787 to go down in the thirteen years it’s been operational.   Which is remarkable considering the scrutiny both the 787 and 737 Max have received.   But this might be due to the fact many of long haul flights are using older Boeing models or Airbus.
