3 forced fumbles and we only recovered one. Add jumping on loose balls to the laundry list of things the defense needs to work on.

Ball security obviously needs to be a point of emphasis for the offense.

You are right on both points.

There were 6 fumbles in the game. KSU recovered 5 of them. All football data ever proves that fumble recovery is plain luck. At least we came up aces on the 6th one.

There were several plays where it seemed KSU knew exactly what play we were running. Sark often doesn’t cover his mouth on the play calls. Or I wonder if someone is tipping the plays.

You may be on to something. In fact, I would almost prefer that explanation to the alternative.

Which is that everyone in the stadium (and me at home) knew what plays he was running.

The two 3rd down run calls are inexcusable. There were 9 in the box. They are selling out. Just throw a play action pass to Sanders!

Scipio has gotten worse too.  His videos with Bobby have no chemistry either.

I wish Scipio would just go solo like Joel Klatt, and have an occasional guest.

I think Scipio could carry a 30-45 minute pod, for sure.

His 2 hour pods with Randy are only that long because Randy rambles and interrupts and takes 3 minutes to articulate the most mundane thoughts.

I used to like Everyone Gets A Trophy. But Randy Boone is horrible.  I'm not sure if he was born mute and is just learning how to communicate verbally. He constantly interrupts and talks over Waddlington. It's like he's never carried on a conversation with another human before. Every time they want to move on or I feel like they've got a good flow going he just kills it.  Makes it unlistenable.  I'm out.  I can't do it anymore.

You absolutely nailed it. For some reason Boone thinks every single thought must be uttered.
Why can’t Paul find someone with chemistry? Ian Boyd was worse than Boone and Kevin Dunn literally does not have a sense of humor.

Hot take: Levian cookies aren’t as good as Culture Coffee’s cookies.

Never had Culture Coffee. But if there’s a better cookie than Levain makes, then I’m all in to try it. Because Levain is eyes-roll-back-in-your-head good.

Wife and I just booked the cliche "NYC at Christmastime" trip.

I've never set foot in NYC in my life. I know this entire thread consists of 36 pages of recs, but it's been going for 4 years and I imagine NYC has changed more in the last 4 years than just about any place on earth, so pardon my asking a question that's been answered ad nauseum.

Quick trip, arrive early Thursday afternoon, leave at lunchtime Sunday. So, basically I'm looking for the "First time in NYC, 72 hours to spare" sampler.

I know we want to catch a Broadway show (gimme your #1 choice), walk around Central Park, see the tree at Rockefeller Center....but mostly eat some good meals.  Staying on 48th Street in Midtown East. Hoping to walk as much as possible.

    Sushi?

    Italian?

    Deli?

    Bagel?

    Pizza by the Slice?

Aside from eating and drinking, anything else we should do while we're there?

My taste (and means) is not as high as other folks on this thread, though I would like to go to many of the places mentioned. We just got back from a 3 night stay. For some low key non-tasting-menu kind of places. These aren’t hidden gems or anything but they are great at what they do:

I am a big fan of Sadelle’s for bagels and lox or other brunch fare. Make your reservation now. Laid back place, might catch a celeb keeping it casual.

My favorite neighborhood just to walk around in, is Greenwich/West Village. I recommend Mary’s Fish Camp for the lobster roll (but other seafood is good too) for lunch. No reservations required, nice and laid back but not a dive at all. Hit it on your way back from seeing the Statue of Liberty.

Several folks have mentioned Los Tacos No. 1, and it lives up to the hype. Specifically the pastor taco…it is a game changer. Best taco I’ve ever had. There’s a location in Midtown and in Chelsea Market, and a few others I believe.

I liked Mimi Chengs for dumplings—you can hit the UWS location before walking in Central Park or the LES location if you’re in the neighborhood.

The best cookies in the world are at Levain bakery, several locations. (But there other stuff has been only okay for me.)

Oh yeah, I think it was spanky who recommended Beauty & Essex. Cool atmosphere, good food with playful menu. You’ll need reservations but it is NOT stuffy. Actually have to walk through a pawn shop storefront to enter.

I also would recommend Top of the Rock  I’m assuming it will be freezing cold but the views are great and it’s totally a “first time in NYC” thing.

And if you want out of the cold, MoMA and The Met are beloved museums for a reason. Worth a couple hours for sure.

Anyway, those places might be called “basic” or whatever but I’ve enjoyed them on my few trips.

Have a great time, man. You’ll love it, I’m betting.

  7. There is basically one play we run that is the foundation of the play action game, it’s the layered concept to one side of the field where the outside receiver runs a go, number two runs a rail, number three runs a little flat route. But Sark has designed it from 100 different formations and 100 different personnel groups. I mean, Helm converted a 3rd down on it yesterday. It’s genius in its simplicity made to look complex.

    Brunch at Red Rooster.

Also, got to say hi to Llewelyn Moss and his lovely bride.

Not pictured are the kickass deviled eggs we had.

Great meeting you and your wife as well. And that was an outstanding meal, lived up to the hype.

  9. Any recs for Saturday morning activity when it’s raining? Forecast is 100% rain this Saturday…we are Red Rooster at 11 but were hoping to take a walk through Central Park prior. That’s likely out. The Met and Natural History open at 10 so not enough time to enjoy them before Red Rooster.

I used Carmel from and to airport this summer. Nothing special but they were on time and had room for 5 of us plus 5 bags. Price was about the same as Uber but it was all taken care of in advance

Carmel is who I use if I do not Uber.  Or I just take a Yellow Cab if the cab line is not too long.

Coming into Newark, Carmel or Uber are good.  Cabs at Newark are not consistent.

Thanks to both, booked Carmel, looking forward to the visit. Appreciate the tip.

  11. Bullet Bob Hayes was my first pro autograph as a kid. Nice guy, friendly to a 10 yr old at a lame card show.

(Nobody asked, but My 3rd autograph was Danny Darwin of Fannin County fame. Hard to imagine a bigger gap of excellence.)

  12. Need some advice: Wife and I are arriving at EWR at 11pm. Staying right next to Penn Station in NYC—is there any issue with taking the AirTrain that late? Preliminary Google search shows ~30 min trip. Seems fine, but I’ve always taken a cab from JFK/LGA.

  13. They make it way harder than it needs to be. Like they don’t even tell us the distance on punts or other info on personnel, stats, etc.

Last night saw a rough start for Acho. It initially sounded like a parody…he literally said “Louisiana Monroe runs a zone read offense, so we’re gonna see a lot of zones and a lot of reads.” He settled in to typical banality which is at least not detracting from the game watching experience.

  14. As someone who has had the pleasure of eating CFS at both Cheever’s and Jimmy’s Roundup, I can confirm that both are A+.

However, there is a difference between the two. Cheever’s will likely require reservations for dinner. Jimmy’s…well…it will not require reservations. For that matter, Jimmy’s may not even require shoes. But the CFS (and the rest of the menu) slams, goes hard, ad infinitum, etc.

  15. I think it’s entirely plausible that this is the first and only incident of this kind (no sarcasm) from Gundy and that it happened exactly as he described. There is exactly one verboten word in our culture, and everyone knows exactly what it is. We can discuss the merit of “cancelling” somebody because of this kind of singular transgression, but not saying this word is an absolute. A not insignificant number of the young men he coaches and recruits would never take a word he said seriously in the future.

I got the same deal yesterday.  Went with the spicy filet.  It was good, not life-changing.  Biggest problem was I placed an online order for pickup at 1230.  Had to wait until 100 for it to be ready.  25-30 people all standing towards the front waiting for their food.  People who hadn't ordered online still kept piling in and ordering with no signs of reading the room.  Should have been a quick "Nope" for the walk-ins.  The mouthbreather element was strong.

I mean, I still crush WB as much as my arteries allow. But yeah.
