Pierce record vs SEC says he'll never win the SEC.

I think Bakich would 100% win a title at Texas, he's 14 years younger, and he's attainable.

Ooooo I can play this game too.

Bakich record in the tourney says he'll never win the tourney.

A guy with one CWS appearance and a whole bunch of regional losses?

No what ends up happening in these arguments is you take a hall of fame coaches entire career and body of work and put it up against someone’s story who is still being written. Pierce’s time may come to an end at the end of this season, not up to me.

For one David Pierce isn’t Augie that shouldn’t even have to be stated. Comparing to Gus is an excercise in futility partially because it was a totally different era and partly because if we hired our next head coach from South San Antonio High School in 2024 this board would lose their collective minds.

Augie’s track record from Cal State Fullerton carried him through the beginning of his tenure at Texas. His first 5 years amounted to 1 CWS appearance, 2 losing seasons, and not one regional host. That is hardly having the program ready to rake for awhile. Now the next 4 years they went on a run that is going to be hard to rival by any college baseball program with how much more competitive the sport is getting year after year.

To make a long story short, Augie’s first 5 years didn’t really inspire much of anything and then it happened, baseball can be fickle like that. Reality is Texas has the #3 class in 2024 and #2 class in 2025 (subject to change because of the draft). That’s with the last 4 years resulting in CWS (Big 12 title), CWS, SR (Big 12 title), season not over. If you are going to blow that up, you better be damn sure you have the next Augie Garrido on line 1, not fucking Erik Bakich and Tom Walter.

For the apologist, answer these two questions.

Do you think Pierce has what it takes to win the SEC?

Do you think Pierce has what it takes to win a title?

Yes I do think he can win in the SEC.

Yes I do think he can win a title. We almost did it in 2021.

Do I think it is  likely? No. But it is hard as fuck to win multiple titles as a coach in baseball.

Again, he better be replaced by someone with some serious skins on the wall or we are going to fuck ourselves.

He’s not at the level of Augie or Gus at their peak, but who could we get that is.  Convince that there is someone out that’s a sure thing.

This x1000, remember when we fired Mack Brown because he wasn't our "standard" (in a season where we were one game away from winning a Big 12 title) and then we turned around and royally fucked up the hire. We proceeded to wander in the desert for a decade.

I can put up with the results of Pierce for another couple of years if we are just firing him for some Charlie Strong level chump.

Cool cool. So he's probably as bad or in the same conversation as Rodney Terry who everyone also wants fired.

Okay, look people. I am not convinced of the trajectory of the program but you all need to get this shit through your heads because you are missing some things.

    Pierce took over in 2017.

We have made it to Omaha 3 times in that stretch (and COVID robbed us of an appearance in 2020). He made a regional in 2017, missed the playoffs in 2019, and in 2023 we lost in the supers.

Dave Van Horn in that same stretch from 2017 to now has 3 CWS appearances, has lost three regionals, and lost two supers.

Tennessee has appeared in two CWS in that same period of time.

LSU has been in two of them.

He has been effective at achieving postseason success. He is far from a shit coach and most teams would kill for our success the last few seasons.

I mean why even compare pierce to the past or anything outside the walls of Bellmont.

He's easily the worst active coach, including Rodney Terry. That's grounds enough to be fired this isn't complicated. David Pierce is not up to the standard for UT athletics, fuck everyone else and fuck the past.

He's bad but he definitely has a better pedigree than Terry. Omaha is basically like making the Elite 8 in basketball. Terry has one Elite 8 that carries an asterisk and then a flame out in the second round.

And these UL fans came up to me.  these big, strong dads.  With tears in their eyes.  and they said, "Thank you Aggies for all you've done for us.  We cannot thank you enough."  Sadly they had blue bell ice cream afterwards and they died of the listeria.  But afterwards I got a lovely ladies gold watch.

So after we win our regional and Oregon wins the UCSB regional who hosts the Supers?

Texas would host. But if it is San Diego, they would host most likely.

  9. Texas as a 3 seed is laughable. But you get what you deserve with losing to shitty teams. That being said, we are an extremely strong 3 seed and I think UL is not good. That is an easily winnable game. Get Game 1 and the pressure shifts to the Ags.

    Big 12 - 3 teams

    SEC - 2 teams

    Pac 12 - 2 teams

    ACC - 1 team

Or in terms of new conferences, SEC has 4, ACC has 2, Big 12 has 1, B1G has 1

SEC was primed up to have a big representation in OKC, but Mizzou lost at home in 3, aggy lost in 3, LSU lost in 3, Arkansas didn’t advance out of their regional and one of Tenn/Bama had to lose.

Really hate that Bama win - Beaver is good, but Duke + Tenn pitching would have at least given OU a harder time on that side of the bracket. That side is def easier than the side featuring Kavan, Canady, Rothrock and Kilfoyl. Our side of the bracket features all 3 POY candidates and 1 of the FOY candidates

If things play out the way I am thinking then OU is gonna have a rough ride and the winner of Texas/OSU is going to be sitting pretty. I anticipate that Texas and OSU will be playing each other after they both win their first game. Loser of that game will bracket switch and end up playing OU. Winner will have a clear and easy path to the final. Going 2-0 is the key.

I see it both ways. I fully expect a 9-3 Big 12 champ to get a bye, and a 11 win SEC team will get the 5 and have to play an extra game in the very near future.

That said, you have to reward conference champs for playing an extra game.

I could see the bye really not mattering going forward. Texas as the 5 winning a home game against Liberty shouldn’t be a problem. Top 5 will be critical. Matchups get a lot hairier starting at 6.

One more game to get injured and one less week preparing for your QF opponent. Hate the automatic byes. Beyond fucking stupid.

Are the schools still bidding on host sites or is it all merit based now?

That is only for the supers and generally only for 2 seeds.

This aggy team is so Trisha Ford.

A very good team but you come away asking yourself "how did they not make the WCWS?" Only 1 WCWS appearance in 8 seasons with some very good teams at Arizona State and aggy.

Dumb we get a team ranked in the top 10 of some polls and a rival as the #1 overall seed.

That series will pay dividends in OKC. These types of series are great for the teams that win them. Otherwise, yeah, if we had lost, that wouldve been some shit.
