  1. I forgot who made the point but I thought it was a great one (I believe it was Wosney Lambrey of the Ringer basketball podcast). But to paraphrase part of the reason women's basketball couldn't draw fans in the past is because they couldn't match what was popular in the men's game, which of course was ridiculous feats of athleticism. However things have changed in the men's game and while athleticism is still a feature one could argue Step's half court bombs and deep shooting in general is just as much of an attraction, if not moreso than high flying dunks. And low and behold we have a women's star who can match that sort of excitement shot for shot with her male counterparts hence the women's game followed suit and increased in popularity.

  2. Note how early into the game Luka was already limping.

Hollinger is right.  If Luka was looking like that already after 4 games off then his injury is much more serious than the team is letting on. Contrast this with how Nelson and company treated Dirk after he tweaked his knee going into the 2003(or 2004) playoff series against the Spurs. Had this happened under the Nelsons Luka isn't playing.

  3. Minnesota is a fucking problem. I know they were the #1 seed for a good portion of the season, but I didn't realize they were this good.

Seems like he’s have to be.  I don't think the analysis considers whether he wanted to be public person. Just that he was one.  Kid of the President alone would have to be enough.

Hunter has a sister whom most people couldn't identify without googling her.  How close of a relationship to the president is necessary to make them a public figure? I didnt know President Biden had a brother until repubs lopped him into their investigations. Hunter could've been just as anonymous as his sister had the conservative echo sphere not set its sites on him.

I'm curious about whether he'd be considered a public person.  He only really gained notoriety because of Trump's and conservative media's fixation on him.

If he were to come out next year, I’m going with the assumption that Baxter will get a 50% share and a stronger majority of short yardage/goalline reps.

The first round RBs of late fit a bit different profile than Blue.  And obviously there are not many in the first place.  I view him more in the Pollard, CEH profile (but more upside) than McCaffrey, Saquan, Bijan, Breece Hall type.

I am not one to limit the possibility of Blue being a 3 down guy so it’s as much about having the opportunities to prove he can do it for an extended period of time to warrant a 1st round pick.  I do believe some at the NFL level  do see that limitation and his opportunities next year won’t be as such to convince others differently.

Blue profiles similarly to the usage of Jahmyr Gibbs during his final college season.  I fully expect as the year goes on Blue's number of carries will ultimately fall just a tick below that of Baxter's with something around 145 to 150 carries to Baxter's 160 to 170. And Blue will have more receptions.

Gerry has 11 getting drafted, Blue not coming out and none of the portal guys going. He sits down to pee. He and Bobby were like “maybe we get 7 or 8 guys drafted all pre season- which was pretty laughable when you consider they had Quin  and Barron gone for sure.
for him to have 12 guys shows you just how stacked it’s going to be.
also- my guess is we have 2 more drafted guys coming in this round of the portal still that haven’t yet been identified.

Not to mention that at the beginning of the season they thought there was a good chance that Byron Murphy would come back and didn't view him as even a potential mid round pick.

Avila reminds me a lot of Tanner Groves at OU a couple years ago.

A guy that's really skilled and put up decent numbers at OU but got exposed athletically in a power conference.

I was about to mention the very same guy. Groves and Avila are definitely more skilled than most BIg 12 and SEC bigs, but there's a risk of getting the destroyed on the boards for both of them. And with so much ball screen action in these leagues they either force their teams to play an inordinate amount of zone or risk getting killed on ball screen actions repeatedly throughout the game. That being said, they typically excel in tournaments and one off games because they're not scouted to death like they are in conference games.  Although he's much more athletic than both Groves and Avila, Grant Nelson struggled in a similar fashion this past season in the SEC. His rebounding #s were essentially cut in a half where he went from a DR% of 26.7% in 22-23 to 17.3% this past season in the Big 12. And much like I mentioned above about skilled bigs like these guys excelling in the tourney, Nelson was arguably Bama's best player as the importance of the tourney games increased.

  9. Hate to say it but Rod Babers routinely questions what the DBs are looking at and diagnosing out in the 2ndary. He questions their basic understanding of fundamental aspects of the position which leads me to believe that he questions the coaching their receiving. Someone like Brooks, whose Dad is a DB coach himself, would be just the player to bolt if his Dad feels he's receiving inadequate or conflicting directions.

Goes back to the idea that black people are not a monolith. Maybe it's a case by case basis. And how much of it is cultural? Rappers is obvious, but what about this as a relevant and topical example:

The main guy I wanted to check out was Dalton Knecht and I swear that both Rivals and 24-7 changed their rankings because they were more inline with Sports Grid and On3 when I looked it up earlier this season. Even The Athletic had him in the lower teens if not the 20s.

The big thing Kent provides is he's excellent at moving off-the-ball/back door cuts. We had a major issue  at getting to and finishing at the rim this past season.

Kent scored on 37/41 dunks and 149/193 close shots. He's very efficient at the rim and he gets to the rim much more than any player we had on last year's roster. Now we will see how that translates at the P5 level but he's a type player we definitely need on the roster.

A lot of the time the guy on the receiving end of those backdoor cuts this past season was Brock and he was unwilling to even attempted contested layups when he was down there.

I took the top 40 players in each of the major sites to build something of a consensus portal rank.  So, if someone was in the top-40 they made my list and then I filled in their respective rank for the rest of the sites.  Here is how it shakes out...

Here are some additional players plus our signees:

This would be interesting to compare to last year's list of the same range of rankings.
