  1. I think the part about the AAU is total bs. Otherwise, Big 10 schools wouldn't have been the votes that kicked NU out of the AAU. Had Wisconsin and Michigan voted for NU like all the Big 12 schools did, NU would still be AAU.
  2. No, it just burns it all off in Houston. Now 90 in Houston vs. 90 in Lubbock is very different.
  3. I think all those Michigan and Notre Dame fans moving down aren't changing their stripes. Arizona St.'s TV ratings are pretty mediocre. In the Sic-em analysis, guess who is just ahead of them at #46----Iowa St.
  4. I don't know about Iowa, but in Texas the heat burns off the humidity when it gets over 100. You can feel the heat and dryness when you hit over 100. Which is why I think FSU and Clemson are tops on their list and UW and Oregon are tops on the Big 10 list.
  5. Not as rosy a numbers as Pac 12 presidents and sycophants are pushing. But if it does come out this high (without hidden things like production costs) that would probably be enough to keep them together. But where the linear TV is could be a factor.
  6. You're full of shit. What I said was entirely factual. And it isn't clear if it happened in the locker room. There are references to some offsite practice facility. One of the NW recommendations was that all practices occur in their facilities. And yes, sometimes people don't know what is going on, even if they should have. In one prominent example, look at how blind Ken Lay was about Enron until UT alum Sherron Watkins told him what was going on (not that he did anything once she told him).
  7. The guy who went to the student newspaper was quoted by several players as saying he was going to bring Fitzgerald down and he was going to lie and exaggerate. That seems to be true. Of course, there also seems to be enough collaboration that the hazing did in fact occur. But there is nothing that indicates Fitzgerald knew about it. That was the reason he only got two weeks initially. Nothing new has come out except that it got more publicity. As for the racism stuff, one of the guys is in therapy and they have tweets of his where he sings Fitzgerald's praises. The rest are upset because they had 1 or 2 obnoxious racist teammates or because they couldn't wear dreads. Lots of schools had that rule at the time. Now you can argue that he should have known and should be fired because it happened on his watch, but that is not the conclusion NW came up with this summer.
  8. Interesting that the executive committee was UW, who expected to get out, WSU, who was stuck and desperate for a deal, and Stanford, who wanted out. Now you have someone from Arizona who will look at options other than the Pac 10 or hope of a Big 10 invite.
  9. Or is it ESPN and Fox?!
  10. The dollars in 2011 were around $20 million a school. The difference between 80% and 20% on $20 million is $12 million. On $70 million its $42 million. Plus in 2011, it was driven by forced carriage on conference networks. Those are a depreciating asset. There are a lot fewer schools that generate Big 10/SEC type dollars now. I think its more than 1, but its definitely less than 10. I don't think the idea of 24 team SEC and Big 10 are financially realistic. Not with today's dollar values.
  11. Football is 80% of the value. Kansas and Duke are just filler. North Carolina barely more and only because they are in a populous state. I think all the love for UNC is very misguided. When the Big 10 and SEC look at the numbers, they won't have nearly the enthusiasm for UNC as message board posters. They might still take them, but it won't be because of direct TV $$s.
  12. I don't think he has. He is very pro-Pac 12, but on the other hand, he isn't a clown like Canzano.
  13. All of them because they make the playoffs. Big 10 is in no hurry. And is evaluating how 16 works. Oregon isn’t USC or OU or UT so they aren’t a no brained but they have value
  14. I wasn't disputing your first tier. Its putting Auburn, FSU and Clemson in the 3rd tier I was disputing.
  15. Wouldn't having Oregon St.-Cal drag down ratings for Carol Burnet as opposed to being followed by Black & white Perry Mason episodes?!
  16. I guess you have already forgotten about FSU, Miami and Notre Dame's multiple MNCs and Oregon's multiple 2nd place finishes. Washington has an MNC and has been up there a lot as well. I posted this before, but there are a relative handful of schools who have dominated the rankings, most of whom dominated in the 60s/70s as well as more recently. 13 schools since 1968 have 10 or more top 5 finishes and each has 6 or more top 3 and all but Michigan (only 1) have multiple AP MNCs. Anyone posting on this board could figure out who those 13 are. There are 7 other schools (LSU, Tennessee, Auburn, Clemson, Washington, Oregon, Colorado) with 5-7 top 5 and all but Tennessee (2) also have at least 3 top 3 finishes. All but Washington (a coaches' title) and Oregon (lots of 2nd places) have an AP MNC. Outside the group only TCU, UCLA, Arizona St. and Pitt even have 3 top 5 finishes. Only TCU (3) and Pitt (2) have more than 1 top 3 finish. So there are only 19 schools (20 if you think CU comes back from the dead) who are consistent threats.
  17. There are only 6 schools not in the P2 who are serious regular playoff contenders. Washington and Oregon, along with FSU, Clemson, Miami and ND are the others. Washington and Oregon help lock up the west coast. They help lock up the playoff contenders. And while none of the surveys of fan interest are perfect, Oregon is consistently the favorite team in California north of San Francisco. In some surveys, it is ahead of Cal and Stanford in parts of the Bay Area. McMurphy said the Big 10 was looking at 7 schools-UW, Oregon, Cal, Stanford, Notre Dame, FSU and Miami. We know Cal and Stanford were at the bottom of that list as they weren't in Chicago making presentations. McMurphy is not the only one who is convinced Washington and Oregon will be invited sometime in the next decade. Virginia and UNC have value, but its not like moving into NYC. And their fb tv viewership is very pedestrian.
  18. You significantly underrate a few schools. According to the Sic-em analysis, your 2nd tier schools are 19, 14, 17 and 13. At least equal to your 2nd tier are Auburn #4, FSU 9 and Clemson 10. USC in your first tier, of course, during a down period and playing on the left coast, is #21. Oregon lead the Pac 12 schools at #20.
  19. that agreement is total fiction. Florida has spnsored FSU. And their purpose now is not to build the SEC network that’s in permanent decline so having new states is not as important. FSU is absolutely first on the SEC list they would love to have them.
  20. Well they filled the cotton bowl in the 40s and 50s (the house that Doak built) but the Cowboys arrived in 1960.
  21. They have very good viewership because they have been one of the most successful programs of the BCS/CFP era. They also will generate playoff berths and big games. They are probably #4 on the list after Notre Dame and FSU who they won’t get anytime soon if ever and Washington.
  22. SMU is not like TCU and Baylor. They are the Vanderbilt wannabes who didn’t have the grades.
  23. Not 100%. Exit fees in the bylaws usually get reduced.
  24. We may see 5-7 instead of 6-6 but champs getting a bye has value in down years for the big 10 if not the SEC.
  25. I think they could and would. The idea of 12 teams with a committee picking teams on a bogus eyeball test won’t fly with the public
