Which is why that 8x9 70s era (and not really-a bunch of schools got moved around in the post) didn't work. I liked the old Big 12 and national setup circa 2010.
The Big 12 was a pretty exciting move in 1996, even though it was sad to see the SWC go. I liked divisions and I liked CCGs. Except for BC in the ACC, everybody fit. Maybe you could go back to 2004 before BC moved.

SEC-AR, LSU, Ole Miss, MSU, Auburn, AL; UK, TN, Vandy, UGa, UF, USCe
Big 10-IA, WI, MN, NW, IL, PU; IU, MSU, tOSU, UM, PSU, add Rutgers for 12
ACC-FSU, Miami, GT, Clemson, WF, NCSU; UNC, Duke, UVA, VT, MD, add Louisville for 12
Pac 10-UW, WSU, OR, ORSt., Cal, Stanford; USC, UCLA, AZ, ASU, add Utah and BYU for 12 (or maybe we allow a CU for window Cougs trade)
Big East-C7, BC, SU, Pitt, WVU, UConn, Temple; Cincinnati, USF, add later additions-TCU, UCF, UH, Memphis and get a scheduling deal with ND like the ACC has.
