  1. Marchand and Ourand. Talk about Pac 12 deal 25:00-29:00. Nothing much new. Just: ESPN isn't close. Amazon will do a deal but only at their price. Apple is possible but would only do an all in deal. Things are dicey. Speculates a little about the rush by the presidents. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/episode-79-espn-layoffs-and-the-big-get-rebecca-lobo/id1587364692?i=1000605324937
  2. If the ACC loses its best, then the ACC is no longer attractive as a non-fb and part time fb home. If recruiting is dominated by the P2, Notre Dame will face the same issue UT and OU faced.
  3. Wilner and Canzano talk to John Ourand from SBJ. Ourand says Pac is going to be disappointed. Doesn't predict any particular numbers but says they are facing a tough market. Wilner says at the end that he thinks if the pac is within 10% of the Big 12 they stay, but if its $22-$24 million they will have to think about moving.
  4. Colorado and Mizzou dragged down the Big 12 average value. But that was with Texas and OU in the conference.
  5. “"...I think everybody’s talking about it right now — I think there’s a lot of side conversations going on,” Rhoades continued. “I think it’s safe to say we’re all having conversations amongst the ADs within the Big 12 and certainly within the Pac-12. And I’d be disingenuous if we didn’t say that there’s Big 12 ADs talking with Pac-12 (ADs), relationships that go back years...."” https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaafb/keeler-for-cu-buffs-big-12-talk-still-nothing-more-than-big-tease-why-wouldn-t-we-be-interested-baylor-ad-says-in-a-school-like-colorado/ar-AA18Jw9X Clarifies the double talk from the ASU president. Everybody IS talking to everybody. May not be formal, but its happening.
  6. Well even the SEC understands that. It was why they were so in favor of expanding the playoffs. The west coast was getting left out every year. 4 team worked fine for the SEC, but not for the long run health of the game.
  7. And Prestige Worldwide means lots more money and you leave behind Purdue, Mississippi St., etc.
  8. Well Texas will be just fine in Prestige Worldwide. There is definitely a risk in getting bigger. It means you are more likely to split into parts in the long run. There have been a number of large conferences, but none have ever lasted very long. Most recent examples are Big East and WAC 16. In Division II the Lone Star Conference and Great West both collapsed shortly after mega-sizing.
  9. Yeah, before he implied he had no idea. Now he says there is a "pretty good soft circle number" and that most games will be linear, not streaming.
  10. And the point is they still have no idea how much they will be offered.
  11. Disagree partly. Recent competitiveness increases TV ratings. TV ratings are what primarily determine attractiveness. Oregon has been competitive over an extended period, so they are the best of the rest in the Pac 12. USC, UCLA and UW have markets and brands, but the rest don't.
  12. Stanford did when they vetoed Texas in 1990.
  13. I think they are pretty sure they get one in 2030 if not soon. So I think they would prefer to stay put if its not awful. And they can veto any big exit fee.
  14. Or if you knew history, you would know that everybody was racist back then. Lincoln wanted to send the freed slaves back to Africa. Some were worse than others. And without Littlefield and his union counterpart Brackenridge, we might be a Texas Tech caliber school today. And Texas did a great job putting the Sweatt statue outside Painter Hall. Painter was a world class scientist who brought credit to the school. He had the misfortune of being president when UT was fighting integration. He shouldn't be erased just for that. But the Sweatt statue addresses the fight against integration.
  15. Utah is ahead of WSU and OSU on the Big 10's list, nobody else.
  16. Well if the Big 12 adds the 4 corners, does Washington St. become the Crimson & Grey window cougars?
  17. They really do think they are the western version of Michigan in both academics and football despite their 45k seat stadium.
  18. Everything I've heard is that the battery throwing was mostly from the student section at CU.
  19. Jason Scheer said he heard no numbers or deal was presented at the Pac 12 meeting yesterday. Guess CU board doesn't have much to talk about today other than batteries.
  20. They have tried that. in the 2000s they were doing $99 family season tickets in the end zone-adults and 2 children. They did a couple of sell out efforts with cheap tickets. Drew 50k for an Air Force game. Didn't seem to add permanent fans.
  21. True, but at the same time, those schools have more value in the P5 than the AAC or MWC. Pac 12 certainly doesn't look any better than the R8 in those 2018 valuations. Thy look pretty comparable. But the Pac doesn't want to play games at 9 a.m. That is a permanent handicap for them.
  22. Ignoring the last 3 years: 2007, 2017 #2, 2002 #3, 2019 #4, 2013, #5, 2003, 2004, 2018 #7, 2015, #9, 2015, #10 That is underachiever?
  23. Their 3 rivals will include Ohio St. and Michigan St. So if they get USC they will not play Penn St.
  24. Historically, UCLA is well up there. Unless you limit your history to this century, in which case your statement would be correct. They have really struggled the last couple of decades.
  25. Who else would UCLA get? And Ohio St. having Michigan, Penn St. AND USC would be too much. Its the same strategy of connecting the old Big 10 with new markets. I always thought Michigan-USC and Ohio St.-UCLA as fixed were likely scenarios.
