Calling it now, we'll win out. All of the remaining teams we'll face are terrible to mediocre. No team can be this snakebit for four games in a row. By the end of the year, our guys will have some confidence and win the bowl game against a top 25-ish team for 9-4. With the perspective of hindsight, this 3-game skid will be disregarded as growing pains while Sark installs his culture.

You can get out in the market without ending up looking like dumbasses when you don't get your man, or the next 3 or 4 down the list. I'm not sure when it became a thing to make every aspect of a coaching search as public as possible.
How does making an offer and being rejected "make you look like a dumbass"?

Anyone concerned about getting

We should call every top-tier coach and make a serious offer. In the best case, we get a top-tier coach. In the worst case, we get rejected and the coach gets a salary increase. Forcing our opponents to pay more for the same level of service hurts their competitiveness, because they can't spend that money on more productive things to compete against us.
Look, this is basketball. We are underdogs, and we should behave like it. Get out there in the market and fucking scrap.

Anyone know what an "assistant head coach" is? Clearly it's something that doesn't interfere with the duties of what I thought were full time jobs (special teams coach, tight ends coach), but is it really just a meaningless title? If so, what's the point of it? If it's just resume fodder, won't future employers see through it?

Is Kyle Flood confirmed, or are we still relying on the 247 report?

Anyone know what Sarkisian's buyout will be if he's fired after, say, 3 years?

Sources: Jim Turner out with Bengals, in mix for SEC job

Old article...
Texas could do a lot worse than Turner for the OL job. I don't give a rat's ass about the "scandals".

This is a cute story by a annoyed reporter from San Francisco.

From the article: "...the planet-despoiling enterprise that is big-kids college football"
LOL, what an absolute clown.

Threads are deranked in search anyway. Google doesn't like forums anymore.
I was suggesting a way to prevent the reindexing that you were complaining of.

I did an RCA on the slowness last night - apparently the search engine does not like it when I change the titles of big fast moving threads. Guess I'll stop doing that or figure out a better solution. It reindexes the whole thread when I do it causing about a 300-500ms slowdown to the thread in question.
changed thread name at ~21:51
bunch of poopoo garbage collection happening
causing a spike in query time (for searches which power the activity feed) and indexing time (which is the biggest slowdown after hitting the submit button for a new post)
If you can, turn off the feature where the thread title is included in the URL. For example:
https://www.surlyhorns.com/board/index.php?/topic/18304-2020/page/59/
is equivalent to
https://www.surlyhorns.com/board/index.php?/topic/18304-2020-alamo-bowl-texas-vs-colorado/page/59/
but the latter will change when the thread title changes, confusing the search engines.

This probably was a meaningful football metaphor about 50 years ago. The football historian in me is curious.

I mean, he was asked what motivates him, and his answer was about what motivates him. The "you" in his answer was referring to himself, or a generic NFL player. I don't read this as an attack on his teammates at all.

I will be very shocked if Aggy gets in over Notre Dame. Notre Dame has
a bigger alumni base, more fans, more money, more prestige. That matters in the eyes of the committee. This aggy talk is just drama to drum up ratings in advance of the show.LOLno. Otherwise, perfect.

It's all moot anyway. Whoever wins this year will get a big, fat asterisk next to their title. No way OSU has earned a spot on the field. We don't know the relative strength of conferences, because no one played OOC games. Random games were cancelled due to COVID, affecting some teams more than others. This season is just a big pile of shit, and the choice of playoff teams will be largely based on reputation rather than on-field performance.

The phrase "at the time" should never be used in relation to college football. It always refers to something irrelevant.

Bzzt. That never happened. You were fooled by the Clintonese in the press release.
