  1. A lot of 3s came from offensive rebounds. This game was won with size. 17-5 advantage on the offensive boards and +22 in rebounds will more often than not win you games of any style due to so many more possessions. South Carolina's offense was often predicated on just bullying people in the paint and finding open shooters from offensive rebounds.
  2. Cal isn't going to be a pain in the ass for anybody if his model is reliant on 3 to 5 FR every year. That model simply doesn't work now outside of very rare examples where blue-bloods stack insane talent. Everyone mocked Cal for this very approach last offseason and then once again he was bounced in the first round. Also, Cal will almost certainly recruit at a level below Kentucky. He isn't going to be landing the #1 class like he was consistently at Kentucky. That makes it even more difficult to win with HS talent because there is less talent. If Cal's formula is "win with top-5 classes" I say it's a high probability he's a failure at Kentucky because 1) That's an antiquated model to begin with. 2) He's going to be landing less HS talent compared to Kentucky which makes it even more difficult to win with that model.
  3. I would say Del Conte's only questionable hire so far is RT but that was really weird circumstances. Beach volleyball (Metzger) and men's swimming/diving (Bowman) are undetermined but I'm pretty sure both were widely considered good hires. The problem in those two sports is beach volleyball is a new program so it may take a few years to produce results and it's going to be almost impossible to match what Reese did at Texas.
  4. Yeah, I was talking about initial hires and I'm also not sure Del Conte was really the person responsible for the Sark hire.
  5. Rhoades has to be on the hot seat at Baylor if Drew bolts. The football and baseball programs are a disaster, he just lost Mulkey, and now potentially could lose Drew? The only thing saving Rhoades were the basketball programs and now those could be in danger.
  6. 75 year old boosters that don't even follow college basketball thinking this was a big time move is the exact formula UK needed.
  7. Reading between the lines, it's pretty obvious the boosters are the one that made this hire. That's always a good sign that these type hires are a disaster.
  8. Since the transfer portal started, I don't think Cal has advanced to the 2nd weekend. This is the most enjoyable thing about the portal. The portal levels out the talent and exposes the coaches that were winning simply because they were buying recruits. Coach Cal is one of those IMO.
  9. Apparently, it's also a big reason why Van Lith transferred. LSU had her playing PG and she feels like she's a 2.
  10. Del Conte's first few hires have been insane. 1) Schaefer WBB---3 elite 8s in 4 years and ranked #2 in next year's preseason poll. 2) White Softball---Best finish in our history a couple years ago and #1 in RPI this season. 3) Floreal T/F----Already a couple national titles. 4) Berque Tennis---National title as an interim coach and in the mix for another title this season. All these programs are in national title contention.
  11. NCAA tournament wins in the last 5 years at Arkansas and Kentucky: Musselman 8 Calipari 1 Who cares about talent if you can't win with it? The landscape has changed where portal > HS talent.
  12. I'm having a difficult time understanding why Kentucky would hire Pearl. He's advanced out of the 1st weekend 1 time in 10 years at Auburn. He's a worse version of Cal. I guess if Arkansas is willing to hire Cal anything is possible but feels like he's the most unlikely out of that group.
  13. It's definitely wild without any context but makes perfect sense when you realize USC and Kentucky had no desire to keep their current coaches.
  14. Also of note, we are now #1 in RPI if the update is correct from D1 softball.
  15. Do you think Mack and Jimbo are still elite coaches? Granted, that was a longer time ago but how long does recency bias last? In the last 5 years: Mussleman two elite 8 and a sweet 16, Cal has 1 tournament win in the same timeframe. It's clearly a downgrade when you also consider Musselman is much better at utilizing the portal.
  16. Musselman has achieved much more at Arkansas than Cal has at Kentucky since he was hired. He's also a much better fit in today's world because he utilizes the portal. As a rival fan, I don't know how this would make you mad. Arkansas is clearly downgrading here.
  17. Maybe it will but even Arkansas didn't want him. They ended up hiring him after several other coaches said no and were then down to coaches from Arkansas Little Rock.
  18. Scott Drew is still a damn good coach but also feels like a bit of a risk. Since Tang left, Baylor has taken a huge step back defensively and they haven't advanced out of the round of 32. It feels like Tang played a huge role in Baylor's success.
  19. Kentucky wanted to get rid of Cal because he's been an underachiever for 5 years. It aged perfectly well. Arkansas just hired a coach a blue blood has been trying to get rid of but simply couldn't because of the contract/buyout.
  20. Why would we want anything to do with Cal? He's been an underachiever going on 5 years now. Hasn't been to the 2nd weekend in 5 years. This is a Jimbo hire in basketball form.
  21. Bruce Pearl would be the funniest outcome. He's Cal 2.0. Recruits really well but then underachieves.
  22. Donovan to Kentucky has felt inevitable for a couple years and now it's perfect timing after Arkansas pulls this move.
  23. I can't stand OU but I've always found Gasso to be pretty respectful. She was very complimentary of our team/pitching.
  24. 9 in a row since beating #1 Ohio State. This looks like the team that was favored to win it all.
