  1. maybe I have just been lucky, but when I venture to Snow's in the fall it seems the lines are shorter on days when aggy has an 11am kickoff or an away game.   Lots of them swing by to pickup some bbq for when it fits their tailgate schedule

Actually planning on keep it year round and using it for lawnmowers (push and zero-turn) to cycle the gas and then have the tank full for a just in case situation.

if you use it year round and cycle the gas you should be okay.    if it sits too long (6+ months) it may lose some octane rating but that's about it.   keep the tank as full as possible to avoid having too much condensation develop inside the tank.

The best timeline so far I have read about how it all went down although I am admittedly more interested though in the backstory of the now deceased home owner.

    https://www.fox7austin.com/news/police-responding-to-swat-situation-in-sw-austin-avoid-the-area

“According to Austin Police Chief Joseph Chacon, the incident began when Austin Code Enforcement and district representatives arrived to a residence in the 10600 block of Pinkney Lane around 9:16 a.m. this morning to serve a search warrant for nuisance and abatement concerning an overgrown lawn.

Chacon says that the warrant was served as part of an ongoing situation with Code Enforcement regarding an overgrown lawn in the front and back of the home.

No one answered, so the warrant was left on the door. While contractors started lawn work at the home, shots were fired from inside the home. No one was injured in this incident and officers and other personnel on scene were able to escape the gunfire and make it to safety, according to police. Police then activated their SWAT team.

When SWAT arrived with mental health officers and a crisis negotiator, they attempted de-escalation techniques and officers tried for several hours to make contact with the man inside, mostly using the public address system. Nearby Kiker Elementary School was also placed on a lockdown out of an abundance of caution, says Chacon.

Chacon says that at 3:19 p.m. officers at the back of the home took several shots from someone inside and officers at the front of the home made entry with a robot, which found a fire that was spreading quickly inside the home.

Officers continued to try and get the man to exit the home, but soon the house looked like it was fully engulfed in flames and it looked likely the man had succumbed to the flames and smoke, says Chacon. The Austin Fire Department was then called in to put the fire out.

Twenty minutes later, the man stepped out of his garage with weapons in hand. It is at that point that Chacon says a SWAT officer shot him and he went down. Officers approached and took his weapons, pulling the man away from the house, and began life-saving measures.

The man, described as an adult male in his 50s, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead just after 4 p.m.”

I’m intrigued by the Vegas Loop concept. From some quick internet searches, it seems the LVCC loop is a single car lane wide and has a fleet of ~65 Teslas that are not autonomous. Each car currently has a human driver which limits max passenger occupancy to 4 people. So that’s ~260 total people max on a 1.7 mile loop that takes 3 minutes to transit.

How much capacity will the Vegas Loop have if it’s built the same way? Suppose it ends up being 10 miles total and 350 Teslas at a time. That’s still only a maximum of 1400 people (and that assumes every car is completely full which obviously won’t be the case) which would be very low for certain situations, like the end of a Raiders game or any other major event.

I would be interested to see it happen, but I hope it ends up being a practical alternative to current transportation methods and not just a novelty theme park ride.

if it is only a single car width wide then what happens when a car breaks down?

As a retired global oil and gas executive, I can assure you that the high prices at the pump have very little to do with whoever is in the White House.

The immediate causes are far more complex, driven by geopolitics, seasonal issues, the general supply chain constraints, some supply still constrained after hurricane season, a huge temporary natural gas issue in Europe, geopolitics, and other factors.

What’s more, in the long term, chronic underspending in global exploration, driven by short term investor syndrome, as well as a turn away from traditional exploration by some of the majors, means that the supply pressures will continue to be significant. Renewable energy is great,  but we can’t get to 100% (or even 20%) renewables for quite some time, no matter how much we spend on it.

$80-$90 crude is probably a good range, IMHO.

I hope Coopers uses this as a wakeup call.....as in someone says - Maybe we should taste what we've been serving?

I don't get to TX often enough and when I do it's rare that I have the time to hit any of these spots (other than in Houston maybe / I've been to Truth a few times), but Coopers used to be a nice respite from what I get where I now call home.

The brisket and ribs aren't edible and certainly not for the price.  On my last trip to Llano, I picked up dinner from Dairy Queen down the street because I've finally decided that it's not just an "off day" that I've experienced over and over.

    Congrats to all the honorees.

as long as people keep lining up to buy what they are selling I don't see them being very motivated to change just to make a list.   unless they have a pitmaster with a massive ego to stroke, and we all know those don't exist 😉

  7. I was passing through Lockhart and stopped at Black's last week.    It was almost like they didn't put any seasoning on the brisket at all and cooked it in an oven, the bark had no flavor at all.   Tenderness was pretty good but I had to drown it in sauce so it would have some flavor.   The ribs were the same way, no flavor.

    Had several items today:

Dallas Hot Birddog - 7/10. Tasty alternative but can’t touch the original but I must have that for the first time 8 am tomorrow.

Gumbo Balls - 7.5/10. Quite tasty and pretty solid size. Not worth $25 though but if you have a group of four and all throw in and eat half a ball and some okra, tasty.

Fried chicken Alfredo ball - 9/10. This was great, a solid amount of food for $12 also. Strong recommend.

Peach cobbler soul rolls - 10/10. Soooo good. Do it.

Coffee toffee crunch cake. - 6.5/10. Solid but dense and filling quick.

Frozen spiked frappucino - 6.5/10. Also solid, tasted like a Baileys and coffee, cool and refreshing but just felt a bit basic.

Fried frito pie bites - 9.5/10. Do this every year, do it if you haven’t.

Fried pancakes - 7/10. Tasty but get filling fast also. A lot for the $8.

    More tomorrow!

goddamn how much did all that set you back?
