Even though Sark’s offense is more complex (or at least requires more reads by the QB on a lot of plays), he’s basically like Art Briles.  They both differentiate themselves by being more aggressive in the passing game than most coaches.  When they throw, they throw a lot of haymakers intended to score TDs.  Run it and throw play action going deep.

When they have the clear talent advantage, that means they score 70 when other coaches would score 40.  It would be a win either way, so in a sense it doesn’t matter, but they go “all gas no breaks”.

But when they don’t have the clear talent advantage, or for whatever reason they can’t execute their normal offense (like, oh I don’t know, having Hudson Card at QB who can’t complete any deep passes unless it’s a busted coverage, or the defense adjusting to take away what they want) then there really aren’t any other tricks up their sleeve. They just keep running their stuff.

Briles was actually better at building in the option and natural counters in his offense, but he would still do dumb shit like handing off on 3rd and 12 because “that’s what you do in our system against a light box.”  After his opening script, Sark just gets pigeonholed into his patterns.  Run up the middle and play action go deep as the base offense.  Screen pass is going to the TE when we want a conservative safe throw, like when we’re behind the chains (side note: why keep throwing this to Sanders instead of RB screens when Bijan and Roschon would do a lot more after the catch?).  Short yardage and obvious run situations are wildcat, except it’s the same wildcat play every time without a counter.

There is a surprising lack of flexibility and ability/willingness to adjust and counter the opponent from Sark.  I would expect such a renowned offensive football mind to have earned that renown for more than just refusing to stop throwing deep balls on overmatched opponents.  Of course, he didn’t exactly tear it up in the NFL, or even in college when he wasn’t OC for stacked Carroll and Saban teams, so I guess it’s not that surprising.

I find your ideas fascinating and would like to subscribe to your news letter

  2. I'm fully aware of what happened yesterday, but you have to realize, that was tech's super bowl. That was the best they can possibly play in a game. just like kansas st played their super bowl yesterday vs. blo-u - they had a lot more at stake, emotionally and were preparing for that game for a month.

wvu is in shambles and we get them at home. different matchup, different emotions and different outcome.

    We will win.

Aranda was 2-7 his first year but won B12 his second year.  Baylor is 3-1 and rolling compared to us.  I’m not sure Sark will even win 6 games this season or next season based on his 7-9 record to date.

I would love to have Dave Aranda as our head coach.

    Let's tap the brakes there.

I've seen the "aranda went from 2-7 to 12-2" , but  it's always left out that they were 11-1 (regular season) the year before he got there.

So he took a team that was conference champion quality and won a conference championship.

I would bet that +75% of their current starters are guys the other staff recruited.

Wait for 2-3 more years and see how his players perform.

Lol. You guys are borderline retarded after these games. Sark took over Washington after they went 0-12. That's zero and fucking 12. You know how bad you have to be to lose every single game? He got them to 5-7 the next year. Then he lost Jake Locker but went 6-6. 7-6 the next year, then the 2013 team went 9-4. So he took a winless UW team to 9-4. Context matters. He wasn't even at USC for 2 years. He went 9-4 there in year one.

    I agree, context does matter.

Going from 0-12 to 8-4 in 5 years is commendable, but it is no more than commendable. If he had won the P12 conference, that's an entirely different ballgame.

I would argue that it is a tougher step going from 8-4 to 11-1 and being conference champ than it is 0-12 to 5-7.

That's the difference between great coaching and everyone else - they get the conference hardware. They can see it through to the end. Sark has never done that as a HC.

He was 24-21 in conference at UW

Best finish at UW? 3rd in the division (5-4 conference record)

He was  7-5 in conference at USC, getting fired in year 2 for being a dumb ass.

Best finish at USC? tied for 2nd in the division (year 1)

For the last fucking time, hire the guy that has built 6 programs from the ashes:

    Willie Fritz

Since taking over Tulane in 2016, Fritz is 16-32 in conference and averages 5th place in the ACC.

Plus he's 62 years old. I realize he has a decent track record prior to that, but if there was ever a window for him to jump to a P5, it was back in 2015-16.

I’ve dated enough women to know I’ve probably fucked one of the ones this guy dated after they got mad at him for giving up trying to understand them beyond deciding it’s hormones, emotion or that time of the month.

    Anyway, Sarkisian is ass.

You do realize that ztejas was "the woman" that I was referring too,  right?

How in the blue hell is what I asked a personal attack?  I just don't understand why you're so obsessed with the football team of a school you didn't attend.  It's not an attack.

I've dated enough women to know when they are having a melt down, give up trying to understand it, or help them understand where you are coming from.

It's hormones, its emotion. It's that time of the month. He's having a fan melt down. don't expect to make sense of it.

Hudson card fucking sucks, he sucks at knowing when to run, he sucks at finding a second option, his pocket awareness is horribad, he can’t hit a deep ball to save his life, and he loves to wait just a second longer than he should to hit an open man. Thanks to how much shit we have sucked through a straw he appears to be our only option while the Mullet Savior is healing. There are posters on here who could get first downs in sarks offense, and that ain’t hyperbole. If Ewers doesn’t come back and stay healthy then we are mega fucked and I mean like prolapse party fucked. Max johnson and Adrian Martinez are better than Hudson card ffs.

    Sark is an offensive savant

Perhaps you meant idiot savant?  Here is how sark's offenses ranked (PPG) each season from his last two head coaching stops.

    2009   48th
    2010    86th
    2011    19th
    2012    91st
    2013    21st

    2014    25th
    2015    41st*

*fired after 5 games for having extra chromosome

  10. Guys like matt rhule, bill clark (he retired due to back problems), PJ Fleck  are the types of guys that make good HC's and those are the only types of dudes that we should be looking at.

They all had proven track records of turning around lesser FBS programs - to great heights. conference titles, best run in recent history, before getting a shot at a P5 school.

Getting a mediocre retread like sark isn't the answer and rarely has been.
