That fucking weasel-laced trip to Florida.  Not even sure who's playing that evening. Just knows he's 1000+ miles from Austin, running from the inevitable, and doing his best to railroad what others are planning to put into place.

He was sealing the deal on a 3-star LB in Florida who became a 2-year team capitain at TE and 1st team all-conference FB his sr year.

    Thanks Mack.

    yes that's true.

he hadn't thrown a baseball in 15 years but he'd been playing softball.  doesn't matter if you're throwing a softball or a baseball, as long as you're doing it somewhat consistently it should be fine.  of course if it's one 3-month season every year over the course of 15 years that wouldn't cut it.

Yeah, I hadn’t even thrown a softball for about 2-3 years before I threw for the gun, but did start back up playing co-ed right after that

I still had a good arm (as good or better than anyone out there) before the 2-3 year break, but now, even after playing at least once a week for about the last 18 months, it’s nowhere near what it was before the layoff. The layoff started around age 35 and I started back up around age 38. Lost a lot during that time.

I also lost a lot of power at the plate during that time.  Was one of the home run hitters before the layoff and now just started hitting them again this past season.

Getting old is a bitch....of course beer league co-ed softball is the only physical exercise I partake in these days, so not exactly trying very hard to get back to my athletic prime.

  3. I was hitting 50 yards with a football as a 120 lb freshman in HS, but never could throw much further than that even as my arm got a lot stronger.

Played in a flag football league about 10-12 years ago and would spell our QB from time to time. I had a way stronger arm than him (I could throw it on a rope from 20-25 yards), but he could throw it about 10 yards further than me on the long balls. Couldn’t figure that one out.

  4. Played small college baseball (shortstop) and hardest I ever threw was 85-86 pitching in a summer league game. 18 years and 50 lbs later, my wife buys a radar gun (not sure why) and I bust out a baseball to see what I could do. I’ve played a little softball over the years, but hadn’t picked up a baseball in at least 15 years.

I topped out at 68 mph with most around 63-65. Couldn’t believe it. I was thinking I’d hit 75-77 at a minimum.  This was about 2 years ago and I’ve been playing softball more regularly, so would be interesting to try again.

  5. I haven’t been “collecting” in probably 20 years and don’t pay any attention to it now, but anyone got any old card “finds” or favorites?

My dad will be passing down a Mickey Mantle collection with at least one card from 1957-1969.

My prized card collection is probably my 1987 Topps complete set. That thing’s value has to be in the thousands now!!
