Just received a call from a long time source in the business in Mississippi.
It sounds like Mississippi State verbal Terrance Hibbler either has, or is about to re-engage in communication with Texas.
The Longhorns really liked the 6-foot-2, 290-pounder when he committed to Mississippi State. So much so they brought him in for a June OV despite his pledge to the Bulldogs.
Stats for senior year: 92 tackles, 29 TFL, 21 sacks

IT first week intel
SpoilerAfter four straight days of practicing, Sunday’s schedule consists of recovery and meetings.
IT asked about the Saturday night practice and for any other interesting notes our sources might have.
Saturday’s team portion of the practice was again geared towards money down offense and defense with the defense doing well to get off the field.
More AD Mitchell hype
That written, the first person mentioned yet again was AD Mitchell. He’s a complete receiver to include his situational intelligence. He’s known for using his size to Moss guys, but he can also create space on the ground, sometimes due to being so savvy. His situational intelligence is high.
Given his catch radius, ball skills, and apparent intelligence, he’s the most likely stick mover on 3rd down.
Corner depth is strong
The corners had a good day in coverage. Both Terrance Brooks and Malik Muhammad were mentioned. Our sources still feel like Brooks will start but all four of Ryan Watts, Gavin Holmes, Brooks and Muhammad will play a lot. Who finishes games will be more important than who starts them.
Austin Jordan is still at Star and looks good, but Jaylon Guilbeau was singled out for making some plays.
Two very talented X-factors look good early
Jalen Catalon has really impressed. He’s not 40-yard dash fast but he’s football fast, “a blur.” He sees the play and goes. “Triggers like a madman.”
All safeties are working at both boundary and field. Catalon profiles more to boundary but there’s a good chance he’ll see action at both positions. So far Texas is seeing the player who was healthy at Arkansas.
Speaking of his athleticism “it’s still there” for Isaiah Neyor. He’s not as refined as a route runner as Mitchell but he may still be knocking off some rust. One thing’s for sure, he’s still big and fast. This is good to hear. We already knew his measured speed has returned.
Offensive players rotating
It sounds like Cole Hutson and DJ Campbell are getting pretty equal reps at right guard. Neto Umeozulu has received a few there as well but he’s still more of a left guard.
The first week or so is for gauging what each player brings to the table. That’s most evident at running back where the coaches want to see if Jaydon Blue and Keilan Robinson can run it inside and if CJ Baxter can run it outside.
Baxter is said to be a bit raw still but he’s big and fast to the point it won’t keep him from seeing the field. He’s the most likely short yardage back thanks to his size and strength.
Confident Quinn
Quarterback Quinn Ewers‘ demeanor is night and day different from last August. He’s much more comfortable as the face of the program. He’s much looser with teammates while still embracing his leadership position.
Just as importantly, he’s more in sync with his receivers. Over the coming weeks we’ll learn by just how much.

IT practice notes
SpoilerStart with the most important stuff...
- Again, no green jerseys. That means the team remains healthy.
- Xavier Worthy, Johntay Cook, AD Mitchell all worked at punt return. And all looked good. Cook, in particular, may be the heir apparent to Worthy. Cook does not struggle the least bit tracking the ball.
- The OL work remained the same as the first day. Cole Hutson and Hayden Conner were the first team guards with DJ Campbell and Neto Umeozulu backing them up. However, Cam Williams and Andre Cojoe flip-flopped sides today, with Williams working at second team left tackle and Cojoe on the right side.
- Justice Finkley is flip-flopping sides between Jack and Buck end. Ethan Burke and Barryn Sorrell are the first teamers. Tausili Akana is even getting some early work at Jack but is behind the older players.
Sorrell has continued his body transformation. He looks better yet again. I would not be surprised if he eventually leaves Texas at 275-280 pounds at this rate, which is just astonishing. He currently lists at 261.
- So if you're asking me who is getting off the bus first in the defensive backfield, it's Derek Williams. He wears no. 2, and he is easy to find in the secondary. At second team free safety was Larry Turner-Gooden alongside Kitan Crawford. Michael Taffe and BJ Allen were running third team. Jalen Catalon and Jerrin Thompson were the starters.
In my first time getting an extended look at Catalon, he is built low to the ground, very much like a Quandre Diggs type. He is extremely well put together for the position.
- I spent a lot of time with the defense on day two. Trill Carter was praised multiple times by line coach Bo Davis for his hand placement. Byron Murphy continues to lead all drills at DT.
- Across from Jaylan Ford, David Gbenda got the nod in early team work.
- Higher winds than usual today. The QBs hung some deep balls going into the wind and overthrew a couple going with it. That's natural. Timing on the underneath stuff looked good overall.
- Xavier Worthy and AD Mitchell continue to look like difference makers. And by that, I mean absolutely elite. Both of them. Jordan Whittington and Johntay Cook also made some impressive catches in drills.
- This continues to be a team that looks the part. There is no change in that at all.
One final note...
Quinn Ewers went to the middle of the field and signaled the start of practice yesterday. Today, it was Jaylan Ford.
Those are your leaders on O & D IMO.- 17

Gerry seemed adamant Texas will land either D’antre Robinson or Dominick McKinley, but probably not both.
