  2. Had a fun time in the West Village this weekend. The weather was nice and I’m relishing the Summer weather and relative lack of crowds!

Saturday went to Dante West Village for brunch...amazing cocktails, great service, good food and fun vibes...I’ve been to Cafe Dante as well and this one is a nice complement to the OG. Props to Penelope and this thread for putting Dante on my radar.

Today went to Suprema Provisions for apps and wine early afternoon (cheeseboard, cured meats, deviled eggs) then strolled around going into various shops before hitting up Via Carota for some tasty burrata, cacio e pepe, Sicilian meatballs and more vino. Both were very good but I liked Suprema more.

I live in Hoboken and the Path was packed both days so lots of folks enjoying The City!

  3. I watched it on peacock last night and was entertained but experienced horrible lag issues …had to start and stop multiple times to get the audio and visuals to sync …reminded me of Game of Thrones HBO streaming issues back in the day 😤

Considering the USA & the UK overthrew the popularly elected Iranian president in 1953 and installed the Shah, which basically led to the complete shut show that Iran is today, I would say that England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿, & the USA 🇺🇸 are all countries non-grata.

Infidels all up in heeere 🇺🇸 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿!

  5. Used to go to Billings quarterly for work. Recommend Jake’s (steakhouse 2 locations) and sub bison for beef on your cut of choice. Also, Stella’s Kitchen and Bakery for breakfast is legit, enjoy!

Need a verdict on The Bubble.  Judd Apatow version of Tropic Thunder in the pandemic.  Could be good?

I watched it with beer on Friday night and was entertained. Meh+ if you’re in the mood for a comedy.

Very surprising, was he an XO at some level?  GOs at command level almost always travel in C2 vehicles to maintain connectivity and SA (Armor and mech infantry usually in armor, everyone else in C2 helos).  They may venture forward into a TAC for some specific missions or fights, but it’s a rarity. They are TOC creatures by and large. The system I worked for almost 20 years was a C2 package in helos, once force on force was over it became a FOB hopping taxi.

I forget his exact role as he wasn’t in my chain of command but we were Artillerymen doing an in lieu of mission and went to Tal Afar to get the 172 Infantry Brigade’s Strykers and move them to Baghdad in support of Operation Together Forward and the General was heavily involved in the planning as at the time that unit from Fort Wainwright, Alaska was the first to be ‘extended’ beyond 12 months. Those Strykers drew a lot of attention from the enemy as they called them the ‘ghost riders’ but they were awesome and that unit was badass.

No, I think it’s still a fair question. An Army division might have 3 GOs depending on when promotions hit, but usually it’s 2 at most. I thought Russia only pushed like 5 divisions into Ukraine, and lots of detached brigades, which would be run by colonels. I think the bigger oddity is the number of Russian GOs that are in the shit. GOs aren’t there to execute, they are there to plan. They live in TOCs, not TACs, and are usually detached from any fighting. There’s always a magic bullet that can catch one, but 4 GOs in a couple of weeks is pretty bizarre. I don’t know that we lost 4 GOs in a decade in Afghanistan or Iraq.

I had a 1 star General (Brigadier General) in the back of my truck on a mission from Baghdad to Tal Afar in 2005. Was definitely rare for us to have an officer at that let level roll with us (I was a 1LT at the time). It was cool but of course as we were leaving our staging area at BIAP one of my privates got his foot ran over by a trailer tire as he was ‘ground guiding’ the vehicles out 🤷‍♂️
