Believe someone has also mentioned that Rewind with Tom Herman was cancelled tonight. Add that to the data points.

This is the kind of shit that I'm sure Urban looked at on the list of responsibilities as was like "WTF". Also, the commercial for Rewind is so freaking annoying.

Good point. Kansas might be if our numbers are bad.

A Kansas-tOSU game reminds me of a quote by Donald Rumsfeld when Pakistan said they didn't want US soldiers looking for Bin Laden in their country:

"We will bomb you back to the stone age."

Aggy tosu as a playoff quarterfinal would be fucking insane

They both have severe Aggy tendencies so I imagine they will be very annoying before the game, during the game, and into the end of time.

Minnesota Nebraska was cancelled so Nebraska is available as a sacrificial lamb

They already played Nebraska and Indiana so they can't do those two. The aggys are available though if BIG approves OOC.

My original scenario is still playing out. Urban and Del Conte met and agreed months ago to an understanding that #MensaTom was done if he failed to win the XII CC. It was painfully obvious to all, following the TCU/0U debacles that it wasn't going to happen, but the next several games made it possible, even if extremely doubtful. Losing to ISU while 0U continued to win ended the chance, and the serious talks escalated.

We are on Urban's timeline now. Urban appears to have targeted some assistants at schools who are still in play for the Final Four, and he's not going to disrupt their seasons until they're finished. Period.

We'll see early signing come and go, and we won't be pleased with our results. Urban has seen the team he's going to be inheriting, and he understands the weird transfer rules. He's not worried.

When tOSU is done (and now apparently Clemson as well) announcements will be forthcoming and there will be joy unconfined among our ranks.

With all that 9.95 stuff and so many reporters throwing out craziness about big money donors throwing millions to can coaches for not standing for the school song and all this info about courting a new coach while the current one is still there it's just a shit show.

You have either or both of 2 problems. 1) the athletic department is leaking info like a sieve or 2) a bunch of parasitic professional reporters making up or exaggerating stories to leech money off the fan base. Those problems need to be fixed or mitigated as much as possible before your reputation as a coach killer program changes.

If Urban takes another job then you'll know 100 percent it was he just didn't want to deal with the horrible culture and BS that you all have described here. He didn't think he could operate in that culture and was waiting for one he felt he could win with. If that happens then you gotta make changes

What job is he going to take though? ND and USC are having great years. He sure as hell isn't going to take the Michigan job if he "values his legacy to OSU".

They haven’t. They said that it’s on life support and honestly a bit surprising they didn’t go into more detail in today’s Scoop..it’s a glimmer of hope IMO

Yeah IIRC I think Burton said that their one "unimpeachable source" has not said no.

I don't think the Meyer saga is over yet.

We aren't seeing enough smoke from the admin about reaching out to other candidates, nor are we hearing anything about "votes of confidence" in Herman. I think it is a waiting game until next Sunday (unless KU gets canceled)

Just got home after flying back from a weekend in Austin and am catching up on the last several hours.  Reading Caddox's post all I can say is BS.  This doesn't sound like the response of Urban Meyer.  The stress of the negotiations isn't going to shut him down.  Perhaps I'm just way to hopeful, but this sounds like CDC has stressed to all the insiders that we need to give the appearance that for now at least discussions are off with Meyer while we still have another coach under contract.  And I think the magnitude of this potential hire is finally enough to get all the insiders on board and unified.  If we truly reached out to Meyer as much as a month ago and he expressed interest in the job as has been reported, then until we announce Herman is coming back or he's fired and another coach is under contract, I'm betting Urban is still our guy. Perhaps I'm going down with this ship, but I'm riding it to the finish

I haven’t heard back from my thread, that lane may be closed to me for good. I hope not bc it’s become like crack to me.

I spoke with two people on the phone. One works for a BMD that isn’t as active as he used to be, but has talked to a few people that are. He said he had no details except that it’s not happening and we are moving on.

The other guy I talked to is a well connected guy and while he’s not at the level of our biggest donors, he gives enough money to co-own a suite with his brother. He’s an Austin guy and hosts an event every year where he helps CDC raise some money. He helped a lot with the new hall of fame in the NEZ. He said he was celebrating on Saturday too. As far as what happened, he was told Meyer started to get really stressed out about the whole process. We talked for a long time so I don’t want to write a novel here, but I don’t think Meyer ever believed we would actually pony up and give him just a stupidly good offer. He ended negotiations satisfied with what had been done, I’d guess that’s where the media started getting positive it would happen. Then a rumor went around on Saturday that things were being finalized this week. That’s when I got so pumped on Saturday and told a lot of curious people it was “done”.

This guy doesn’t know what happened on Sunday. He’s still waiting to get the full word, but Meyer basically said he’s sorry but he’s out and cited the stress of the process and decision was an indicator he wasn’t ready to come back. It sounds like everyone involved on our side did a great job, so at least it’s not a Saban situation where our typical dumpster fire screws up the deal. He thinks there’s a big detail that he doesn’t know about that ended up hurting us. I’m sure it will come out later that will tie a lot of this together, because something just doesn’t add up.

Damn that sounds like the nail in the coffin.

Well, I feel pretty good about this having nothing to do with Urban Meyer. Nonetheless, I played golf there while on a very long road trip with my wife and kids this summer. It was about 109 degrees on the course. We had a hell of a time and the course is fucking amazing. I may or may not have almost died of heat stroke towards the end, but there wasn't a doctor within 2 hours of driving, so we'll never know. I puked and rallied though.

Always respect a good puke and rally. Props old man.

I was fully confident Meyer said no a week ago. I can now say for the first time with full confidence the Meyer flirtation is over. This thread is done.

Feel like DB has generally been right on stuff so this makes me sad.

That didn't look like a lot of head fakes, or a particularly drawn out process.  According to the timeline laid out in that article:

November 17, 2011 - specific Meyer-to-OSU rumors begin appearing online

November 23 - Meyer publicly addresses the rumors, saying, "there has been no interview," but "if something happens with Ohio State, I'll have a decision to make."

November 28 - OSU announces Meyer as their new head coach.

Seems like a lot of back and forth to me. To be fair, has just been "no" for us.

» The New York Times published a story Tuesday noting that Meyer had met with Arizona athletic director Greg Byrne one week ago in Miami, FL to discuss his school’s coaching position. Meyer, according to the story, declined the opportunity but “expressed his desire to return to coaching.”

» Two days later, BuckeyeGrove.com writer Kyle Rowland tweeted the following: “Same plane that came from Gainesville to OSU airport was in Miami when Urban Meyer met with Univ. of Ariz. That meeting took place in Miami.”

» CBS Sports’ NFL insider Mike Freeman then referenced a report he read on Scout.com Thursday, tweeting that “Urban Meyer has agreed to coach OSU for 7 years, $35 million. If true, whoa.”

» After that began to circulate, Sports Illustrated’s Andy Staples attempted to set the record straight with a tweet of his own: “Spoke to someone who would know tonight and was told any report of a deal between Urban Meyer and Ohio State is untrue.”

» However, Buckeyes blog Eleven Warriors quickly took to Twitter to divulge what they had uncovered: “We are 99.7% sure Urban Meyer has agreed to a deal to become the next coach of Ohio State. Solid sources. Plural.”

» Shortly after, The Gainesville Sun’s Pat Dooley texted Meyer directly and asked him specifically about the rumor that he had accepted the OSU job. “No truth to it,” Meyer replied via text.

» Meyer’s wife Shelley also made a statement after being contacted by WCJB TV20 and asked if her husband had agreed to coach Ohio State. “No, he did not,” she told the station.

» SPORTSbyBROOKS then posted a full story about the Meyer situation Friday evening, reporting that a “deal between Meyer and Ohio State was consummated in principle earlier this week in Columbus but not signed.”

Brooks goes on to cite specifics of the agreement including a “generous compensation package” and a promise from the school to provide him with the ability to hire the “highest-paid assistant coaching staff in college football history.”

» Saturday morning, Associated Press writer Larry Lage asked Meyer about the deal. He declined comment. He also questioned ESPN analyst Chris Spielman (rumored by Brooks to be a future Meyer assistant) about the situation, and Spielman said there was no deal between Meyer and OSU.

» While doing color commentary for the Michigan-Nebraska game at noon, Meyer addressed the rumors on the air (video😞 “I know it’s that time of year. I’ve not been offered any job, and I’ve certainly not accepted any job,” he said.

» Minutes later, ESPN.com released its version of Brooks’s story, noting that “Ohio State has been in contact with Urban Meyer about becoming the school’s coach” but “no contract is in place and no announcement likely would be made until after the regular season.”

» UPDATE: Dooley had an extensive conversation with Meyer over the weekend about the rumors that he might return to coaching. Meyer denied reports of interviews with both Arizona and Ohio State but did say he would consider an offer from the latter institution. “I’m in a good place right now mentally and physically. So if something happens with Ohio State, I’ll have a decision to make,” Meyer said. “If there is a decision to be made concerning Ohio State, there will be a lot that will go into it. But right now, there is no decision to be made.”

One guy hadn’t heard anything and said he would ask. Another said he will know something tomorrow when he goes into work.

Given how many head fakes there were in Urban's OSU hiring and how they waited until the season was over, it's hard to completely let this one go. Thanks for checking.
