  1. Sark fully intended to dump Coleman out on his ass but like ~7 people turned down the position. Eventually just reached a point where giving Coleman a one year shot without Herman's influence was a better option than scraping the bottom of the barrel for a replacement in that cycle. He said all kinds of dumb shit praising Coleman after the fact but it was/remains widely known he never wanted the guy. Nahlin was talking about that again just the other day that like six guys turned us down before Sark finally just accepted he had to stick with Coleman.

    Appreciate that.
  2. I don't remember that at all. I remember Sark gushing about retaining Andre Coleman, saying he'd wanted to work with him for years. The only compliance casualty I remember was Corey Raymond and that fucking player personnel guy.

Maybe details on a Coleman tangent, but didn’t Sark say this about Coleman AFTER Wiggins was retained by Alabama and Simmons stayed at OU?

And fuck all, Raymond would have been excellent.

Until more specific info: he experienced sudden cardiac death. Maybe he had an underlying condition or not or maybe he got thumped in a one-in-a-million shot (commotio cordis). The equivalent of a “widow maker” heart attack, and yes, quite literally “dropping dead.” He’d be more than lucky to be alive. After about 4 minutes, yes the oxygen deprivation kicks in in multiple locations including the brain.

This is not something people tend to survive, period. (Not trying to be a Debbie downer, I have to use factual rationalization as a coping mechanism.)

  4. Any chance they do it like the pros and he’s getting a full physical right now? MRI and all that good stuff

Unless rules have changed with the Transfer Portal, schools can request medical records and the player can provide as much as they want to. The school and their staff can review it all and even request to talk to his previous docs and staff. No one who formerly treated him has to say anything negative or positive though. I actually think he can do more imaging and outside opinions on his own and provide a “recommendation” - like how many players are medically disqualified from one school and pop up somewhere else.
  5. A large percentage of labral repair patients are never able to compete again. The time frame for hitting the field is surgeon and patient dependent but works out to 3 months — never.

Thanks - I’m out of town now. But every honest opinion boils down to this same thing. He’s likely dislocated multiple times; his glenoid and labrum are shit. You’re correct though: if his last surgeon duct taped that stuff well enough, he can hopefully last on a season-to-season basis.
  6. Not sure if waiting on Hill is good strategy in terms of portal.

I read this as the coaches feel comfortable with what-they-have unless a particular person becomes available. Blackwell played well in the final few games at Will and adding an immediate impact player like Lefau and/or Hill decreases the need for a non-starter-high-impact LB in the portal. Still need an EDGE/Edge/DE/whatever
  7. According to Bobby Burton a few weeks ago, BJ Allen had a non-football related injury earlier this year that set him back... Bobby did not disclose what the injury was or how it occurred because he felt it wasn't his place to share.  Also said coaches were still upbeat about BJ Allen's future...
Being up to 210lbs is surprising to hear about Allen though...

For some reason I thought this was reported as due to mono. Which actually makes the weight gain impressive. Then again, I could be completely wrong

While Card clearly improved over last year, the team (and Sark’s) long term success was never based on him being capable. The moment Ewers committed was the moment Card was relegated to come in and hand the ball off and complete a few passes, barring Major-like circumstances (there weren’t). This offense was never a great fit and pissing ourselves because the backup QB is moving on is not the way now.

  9. We’ll see if you’re ecstatic when it’s verified.

Not a attack on you, but outside of: Ewers, Sanders, Banks, Campbell, and maybe Williams on offense, and, Murphy and Barron on defense, I’m not sure I’m sweating a loss from anyone else. Haven’t reports shown that Ford, Sweat, and Watts plan to return? All the guys listed seem to be pretty damn plugged in to the program right now.

Edit: forgot about J. Thompson. He’s solid enough that it would hurt, and for some reason I’ve wondered about him transferring. But we know the staff is already trying for a S in the portal, not counting BJ Allen and Williams (we think) in the wings
  10. Getting to 8-5 is fantastic improvement and all and I’m generally so fucking happy to be a Longhorn fan right now. But, great coaches at all levels are always looking at available coaches who could be clear upgrades to the current staff, even if they’re alumni. I definitely think this staff is solid and won’t lose sleep over the same group coming back. But let’s not think that it’s the perfect squad who shouldn’t be considered for upgrading

On Marion: would suck, but the guy has never stuck in one place very long. It’s likely that he was only here for 2-3 years max anyway. Can’t be mad at him for moving up in this world.

  11. I’d say I’m more apathetic to Gideon - I did use the word “upgrade”. I’m not as bullish on having to replace him as I was earlier in the season. I will admit that the safety play has dramatically improved during the season. I do think that it was not great to begin with, though, and until a more complete, season-long effort by the secondary, I’m not 100% sold on the combo of Gideon and Joseph being truly in lock-step with PK. Maybe it’s a player thing, maybe it’s the scheme-fit concept, maybe GP has helped this mish-mash of coaches, and maybe the player-scheme-unit development going into the bowl game/next year convinces me. But hey, I just watch the games and criticize from my home.

  12. Jeff Hafley to replace Gideon would be phenomenal - he’s allegedly fantastic as secondary coach and a solid recruiter. Seems as though BC doesn’t want to pay to get rid of him.

I thought Lake and PK had a falling out, behind the scenes, as a reason PK was willing to move on from UW. That said, IF Lake could control his ego, then yeah he’s a great add. You could also look at Bill Busch, currently at Nebraska and likely out, given that Rhule has already begun filling out his secondary coaches. Corey Raymond, Gerald Alexander (former player for PK, coached at Cal and Miami Dolphins). Basically, I think Gideon should be swapped for an upgrade at the coaching spot.

I suppose the other thought I have is that I hope Sark already contacted Leonhard for a just-in-case-PK-moves-on scenario. Leonhard runs a similar 3-4/2-4-5 style defense.

  13. This defense depends on creating a wall on the interior with the DTs and ILB’s. The improvement of the interior DT’s and Ford alone in those roles has made them just plain confident, setting that tone physically and mentally. That allows PK to dial up more blitzes and let the secondary be more aggressive. This plays well into the roles they should be playing, keys they should be reading, and allowing their jobs to be more straightforward - less thinking, more read-and-react. It is almost a complete opposite of last year - where the middle of the defense could be easily gashed - and this creates all kinds of havoc with something as simple as calling a blitz or press coverage.

Hell, Barron is playing with more confidence. Mo Blackwell seems to be making strides and getting more run at Will. A lot of it seems to be just having actual playing time in the system, some seems to be out of necessity - Barron moving around the secondary.

Still think the D needs an EDGE/Buck, a DT, a Will, and a safety from the portal. I suppose that the development of Collins and Broughton (maybe?), and the staff’s thoughts on Lefau and Hill curtail that some.
