  1. I learned this morning some of the APC buyouts for managers with 15+ years at the company were 7 figures. Jesus, that’s a lot of money to go away.

My friend at MRO is taking the severance package. Her department would office in Bartlesville. That’s a pretty easy decision.

But how can she be sure she’s going to get the severance offer? Is it a choice? What if she doesn’t get the axe and becomes a COP employee? Can anyone offer to say they want the package?
  2. They’ve laid out severance packages for everyone in the event they’re not retained. I don’t have a percentage or number, but COP will keep a small number of Marathon employees.

Pretty generous package for MRO employees, particularly if you’ve been there awhile. What’s to stop COP from bringing them all over and then just laying them off in a couple of months? Is this negotiated as part of the buyout? Good faith? Just seems like they could get out of paying a ton of severance by bringing em all over and the whacking them in short order.
  3. I'm assuming your reaction was something to the effect of " OK He deserved it" with the possible addition of "I'm going to go kick his dad's ass too".
My oldest, now the holder of a BS in Petroleum Engineering and a MS in Finance from UT, got in trouble for starting a "Longhorn Club" in 3rd grade, and not letting kids in if he didn't think they were smart enough or if their parents were aggy. We got a call from the school over this.

    That is Outstanding.
  4. I've not been to the Houston campus.  But is it any worse than the area around Reckling?   I never felt unsafe as a younger man but I would not ask/expect my GF to walk with me in those areas to a game.

    For real?

And stay away from river oaks! It’s a nightmare over there.

  5. At the corner of Elgin Street & Cullen Blvd?
They can gentrify the surrounding area all they want, but the same thieves tool around that whole area looking for marks.
Nah, I like my car, and prefer to not have it stolen.

I’d rather spend a week in the Gaza Strip than down there. TV for me.

  6. No street parking is free at meters except on Sundays and Holidays.  Contrary to popular belief there are meters in downtown that are not even free on Sundays.  I found that out the hard way.  The signage on those is different and says "Mon-Sun 3 Hr Max 24 Hour"  Only place I ran into those was down Commerce once you get past Austin St.
So you have 3 different signs -
     - Mon-Sun 3 HR Max 24 Hour -  stay the fuck away from these
    - Mon- Sat 3 HR Max -  As of now these are free after 6pm/Sundays/Holidays  I tend to stay away from these if I am there before 3 pm because I don't want to fuck around and find out if they fine you if you are over 3 hours etc.   My problem with this sign is the verbiage.  If you extend like Putt is saying then why even have the 3 hr time limit posted.  If you are able to extend then its not a Max time limit and you could extend another 3 hours etc. which makes no fucking sense and like I said I just don't fuck with them because I know if I end up with a ticket that shit ain't getting overturned because well... government.  You can find these all around the ballpark towards the NW (Franklin/Commerce/Labranch/Austin area)
    - Metered Parking Mon-Sat -  These are the ones I look out for, especially if I arrive before 3pm.  Just max the meter out and you are good until 5:59pm and then it is free after 6.   I don't have a 3HR time limit sign so I never worry about sitting in those for 6+ hours if need be.  You can find these in EADO but your vehicle might get broken into so do not leave anything that looks like it can hold a firearm or shit worth anything in view.  (Also found this out a few years ago the hard one by being away from my car for less than 3 hours and came back to a busted back window because I had a little box on my back floorboard for work that someone thought would have shit in it and it did not)

    Parking talk

Jesus, that’s more depressing than our pitching woes. Thanks though.

  7. Yeah that blows, but still  cheaper than parking in the lots.  Only problem would be is if they enforce the dumbass 3 hr time limit shit.   I make sure right now I park at those meters that don't have the "3 hr time limit" sign so not sure how strict they are on that currently or not.

Care to share where some of those might be? Headed to a game next week and despise paying for parking. #oldguy

And if I do park in a free 3 hour max lot , I’m good as long as I get there after 3? No charge currently after 6?
  8. No eye candy downtown. Maybe the tunnel during lunch. Need to go to River Oaks for all that.
Vic & Anthony’s is terrific, but you can’t hear shit in there. I’d conclude all business before dinner.

Business has been conducted. They’ve already got my $$$smile.png Table booked for 5:00pm. Assuming no early bird special like the woodlands restaurants? Will be nice to be on the other side of the check than when I was kissing ass to clients. “Bring us another bottle of caymus and silver oak please! and of course I’ll have some baileys with my tiramisu. “ smile.png
  9. Where is the best place to eat downtown before an Astros game? Firm I invest some dough with is taking me and have asked my preference.

$$$ isn’t an object. They from Chicago so don’t know the town and I’m a suburbs idiot now.

Is Irma’s southwest still a thing? Vic and Anthony’s ? Those used to be my go to when I still worked but it’s been a decade. Anything hip and trendy? I’ll be with some 20 something dudes so I’m sure they’d appreciate a little Houston eye candy. Thanks .
