Yeah, I hope he enjoys this next year because, once it's gone, you never get it back.  Sat around last weekend with a group of old college friends drinking single malt scotch and reminiscing about our times at UT.  We're all successful people who definitely "made it"  in life.  And yet all of us were talking about how much fun we had at UT.  Like they say you never knew what you had until it's gone.

  2. Most of us think that it is a Surprise Wedding. If not a wedding, then the night of the somewhat dressy party (jackets & nice pants in the Caribbean?) is a Wedding Reception and they will announce that they recently tied the knot.
Both are divorced with three kids each and the kids will be there, plus the siblings and my buddy’s mom will be there.
Invites were sent out last March/early April. It is most definitely NOT just a birthday party (his birthday is in November and hers is in December), but whatever.

I’m done detailing. Future posts will be in the travel thread.

I’m on pins and needles , so hurry. The more detail the better.

  3. We cant really afford (more, i don't want to spend thousands of dollars) to run around all over the country and visit schools. Instead, we (he) pinpointed particular schools based on his class rank, GPA, SAT, his qualifications, etc. As well as, criteria like : well it would be cool to live here or be in this part of the country.  Google maps is your friend.
He ended up applying to 7 schools [2 acceptances (UT & A&M) + 5 waiting] - most the remaining schools are "reach" schools and out of state. If he gets in to any of them, we'd take a visit to those schools in March at that point, so he can ultimately decided a college by April.

Cmon, spill the beans. What colleges and major? Obviously to 5% if into Texas. Congrats

  4. I'm going to tell you the secrets to wealth that the ultra-rich don't want you to know. And if you book in the next 15 minutes I will give you a 90% discount from my normal $5K webinar fee. (Note: The 15-minute discount will be repeated on late night TV for months.)

  5. I also think people are overblowing the "Manning family plan" for Arch. The CFB world looks nothing like it did in the late 90's. All of his peers (other 5 star QB recruits) would be looking into transferring if it takes them 3 years to land a starting gig. With social media, its hard for him to avoid the narrative that he's being "wasted" on the bench. Do the experiences of his grandfather and uncle matter? Yes. Is Arch an independent being with free will. Also yes.
I'm not predicting that he transfer, nor am I advocating for him to start to avoid a transfer. Only pointing out that this place puts WAY too much on what happened with his uncles.

  6. I discovered this many years ago after a dry January in my early 40s.  I was in decent shape with some good muscle tone after getting back into the gym.  But I was far from cut, and after the Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years cycle of heavy drinking, I had started to get soft in the middle.  After a solid month of laying off the booze, the extra pounds disappeared and I had gotten chiseled to the point that my then-wife had taken notice and was impressed.  We fight a declining metabolism when we get older, and throwing heavy alcohol consumption on top of that makes it exponentially worse, even if you have a healthy diet and good exercise routine.  I notice it much more now at 49.

Try being 58 fucker. It only gets worse. If I look even LOOK at an IPA these days, I swear I gain 2 pounds. Down from 198 to 174 in 2023. Here’s to keeping the train going in the right direction in 24 all.

  7. I had a heart/calcium CT scan today. I had to request it from my doctor but he had no problem ordering it. The best part is that insurance is covering it. He suggested I start statins,  but I wanted to make sure I needed to take them first and he agreed.

What was score ? I got a 142 last year and decided to get my eating habits together. Hope all went well.
  8. In my neighborhood here on Galveston we have some Longhorns, Tiger Kittys and of course gomers. For some reason there does not seem to be the usual amount of gomer flags and such? Even wondering around the stores and streets the maroon morons seem to be in hiding for some reason?

Same here in the woodlands. No maroon xxl sweatshirts to be found out and about and it’s fucking glorious.
