I really don't think the lack of talent at LB can be overstated.  Tell me how you see that unit being materially better.  I hope I'm wrong but I don't see DTB moving the needle.  Without getting significantly better at LB, I don't see the defense materially improving.   Hope I'm wrong.

I don't really disagree with you, but the argument would be DTB and Jaylan Ford providing close to average P5 linebacker play would drastically improve the defense.

We've talked about it ad nauseam on this board, but a lot of the issues with the linebackers stem from the abysmal defensive line. We absolutely do not have the talent in the LB room to cover for that level of play from the defensive line again this year.

Don’t know how much ahead Hutson is in front of Campbell, or if they’ve thought about moving Jones to guard. But I thought Williams at tackle looked better than Campbell at guard

It's really surprising to me that Hutson is ahead of Campbell. I liked Hutson's tape in HS, but thought Campbell was the superior athlete, by a decent margin. Wonder if being there for spring ball is that impactful?

…do you think Colton Vasek is getting a massive bag/NIL deal from anyone?

No, but he's probably going to make more money than he would at most of the "academic" schools, barring ND and maybe Michigan.

My point isn't about Vasek. For kids who are going to get a comms, kinesiology, or similar type of degree, I think it's ridiculous to say they'd go to UVA or UCLA if they made smart decisions.

How many of those top 100 guys ever did shit here? Mater Dei is largely a USC feeder school, I’m not turning down a top player now for the slim chance of a top player in the future.

I’d like to keep Shannon, but if landing Duce causes him to leave, then that’s fine with me.

I'm certainly not advocating telling Duce to kick rocks so we can keep Shannon. But that high school has produced multiple Heisman trophy winners so I do think that our coaching staff being on good terms with Mater Dei is something to keep in mind.

I don't think Duce would necessarily push Shannon out of the class anyways.

This really isn't some sort of remarkable class for us.  It looks roughly like good recruiting years in the recent past, and, as it stands, it's not better than last year's class.

QB,DB,LB - about the same (considering Ewers)

RB - projecting to be better, but that's not certain

WR - better, maybe same if you count transfers

OL/DL - last year for certain

Our only LB last year was 3 star Trevell Johnson. It's already substantially better this year with Burrell and Lefau and we'll probably end up with at least one of Gullette and Hill. Not going to dispute your larger point though.

A thread on Sark, on the Bama board.  The responses warm the cockles of my cynical, jaded heart.

This is a nice example of how gracious and reasonable any fanbase in college football could be after a decade of top 2 recruiting classes and natties every other year (other than the aggies). There's no reason Bama football fans should be this pleasant.

But, no, they can’t help themselves. They NEED everyone to believe they were clean and above board when, absurdly, they know for fucking certain that they weren’t. Insane.

This goes to the core of the collective Aggie psyche. It's not enough for them to believe that CS is a transcendent, magical place and that, all things equal, they would sign every one of the top 25 players every year. They need everyone else to believe it too.
