  1. I enjoy dipping my fries in the gravy that comes with my steak finger basket at DQ.
  2. Finding nice chunks of petrified wood during random strolls on our small Fayette County farm. These are a few of the nicer pieces found over the past 17 years that we’ve lived here.
  3. I dispatched this 2’ coral snake this morning, he was in our backyard at our rural Fayette County home. I try to let most snakes be, but when they’re venomous and too close to humans/pets then I go ahead and take care of them.
  4. My favorite road-trip song is “Vacation”….the Go-Go’s version is okay but the original by The Textones is what really rocks.
  5. Can you imagine how crazy this topic will be when we get to page 1939?
  6. It looks like Elko has a few beef ribs stashed in his pocket in case of a hunger emergency…
  7. Yes. Are you from that area?
  8. I grew up in the small town of Louise in the 60s and 70s. We were a low-end middle-class family (like many other families in town), Dad worked 6-1/2 days a week and Mom was a stay-at-home mom. Budgets were tight but as a kid I never really comprehended that. I remember that if we asked Mom for some chewing gum, she would tear a stick of Wrigley's in half and that was our portion. I also could never understand why Santa only brought us low-cost gifts, while many of my friends got expensive gifts...it seemed like Santa did not distribute fairly.
  9. Billboards that say "Does advertising work? Just did!" make me surly; also the endless Buc-ees billboards on the interstates.

    Getting old sucks

I had two teeth pulled Thursday morning. At age 65 & 10 months, I am now down to 23 of my original 32 teeth, but those 23 seem to be in good shape for now. I'll be getting another partial to fill the gap in a few weeks. I'm still paying for all the sweets I consumed as a teenager.
  11. Only about 1/3rd of the German population was Catholic. This article from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum provides some factual background about the various religions in Germany and how they responded to the Nazis: https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/the-german-churches-and-the-nazi-state
  12. Woke up this morning to find frost flowers on our place in Fayette County this morning.

This is what Quinn's ankles look like:
  14. Dudley, is that you?
  15. Voted in La Grange (Fayette County) at about 3:30 this afternoon, took about 10 minutes to vote for all the Dems.
  16. I’m not able to post in the Cloak Room, I just wanted to post that I voted this afternoon but it doesn’t show a Reply box. Can someone explain please, are there certain requirements? Thanks in advance for an answer on this.
  17. Our AC stopped running yesterday. After checking the obvious things like breakers, etc., I climbed in the attic and opened up the air handler unit and discovered this 25 cent fuse had burned out. Replaced it and the AC started right up and is cooling just fine. I’m always happy to avoid a $100+ charge from a repairman.
  18. I happened to go outside a few nights ago and caught our San Pedro cactus blooming. They only bloom at night and usually only for one night, so I was very happy to see it.
  19. Yeah, probably so, but I couldn't resist, the similarity was just too striking.
  20. I posted these photos in the Longhorn Memorabilia thread back in January, but I think you'll enjoy seeing them here too (and to make it officially fit the thread, texas am will never come close to our football history). I was 10 years old when we won the '69 championship, so these guys will always be my heroes. Royal, Worster, Koy, Speyrer, and Street all autographed this mini helmet which is my most treasured item of Longhorn memorabilia.
  21. Looks like he attended atm at one point...
  22. Had lunch at B-Daddy’s in Helotes today, the brisket, potato salad, and slaw were all really good.
