bruh, I'll straight up ban your ass if you keep talking shit to me about stuff that I'm just here doing. Ztejas offered to pay and you declined reasonable methods and didn't reach out then you bitched at me in DM's. Legit go fuck yourself and don't drag me into your fucking drama with another poster.

Don’t threaten to ban that clown then do absolutely nothing. I told you I’m not accepting direct payment from him because I don’t want him having access to my information because the guy is unhinged. You said you’d ban him until he paid YOU.  I don’t care about $200. I’ll fucking donate it to Surly. I care about your word. You might want to revisit that thread.

No, it isn't.  It's the one thing that is absolutely and completely irrelevant with respect to Texas' chances to make the CFP.  If Texas wins, they're ahead of Ohio State.  If Texas loses, they'll remain behind Ohio State.  It makes absolutely zero difference-- to Texas-- where Ohio State is currently ranked.

Now, if you want to make all those same arguments about Oregon's ranking ahead of Texas and its implications on Texas' chances to make the CFP, that's fine.

But there is zero chance an 11-1 non-champ Ohio State goes to the CFP ahead of a 12-1 conference champ Texas.  Ohio State's current position is irrelevant.

I’m not worried about tOSU. I’m worried about our current position of 7 and moving to 4. It was foreshadowing and is absolutely relevant.

I would have such a problem with any 1-loss team going over an undefeated FSU.

If FSU beats UF (done) and top-15 Louisville with their backup, they should be in.  You win all your games + CCG as a P5, you're in.  Everytime.

I would have zero problem going ahead of FSU. Fuck any school not Texas. Neither Texas nor FSU created this shitshow system and I would have no shame.

By slotting OSU between us the committee has made its plan clear w/ regards to championship weekend. For those saying "these rankings don't matter until the last one" you're just wrong because the committee is going to base their next set of rankings off of this one + new results. Will we jump OSU with a win? Most likely yes, but they've eliminated any debate that we could have had over whether or not we could win impressively enough to jump UO should they win in an ugly manner. Their reasoning? Because UO dispatched of Oregon St. with ease which is another PAC team that the committee really respects. How do we know that? Because they were ranked 11 a couple of weeks ago before their close loss to UW (and because the CFP chair literally said so). The committee isn't setting us up for a complete upheaval of the top 5 this week unless complete chaos ensues. We know exactly where everyone stands & the only result that may change things is a Bama upset over UGA. Otherwise you're going to get UM, UW/UO, FSU/UT, & UGA. And UT better not limp to the finish line vs. OKST because it's pretty clear that they don't respect UTs SOS as it is.

Totally agreed. The tOSU ranking is a big big deal being willfully ignored by posters here.

You disagree with head-to-head results, given two P5 conference champs with identical records?  OK, I guess.

Doesn’t much matter what I think. I absolutely know the committee will have Bama jump us and probably to the 2 spot. Like it’s not even a question they will be in.

If that’s so funny, @jimmyjazz, lay money down. Offer me a bet.

Is this a fucking joke? You think they take Texas over bama knocking off #1 Georgia in the SECCG? What world do you live in where you think beating the #1 ranked team in the country doesn’t get you into the playoffs? You think they intentionally didn’t put Michigan in that top spot literally for this discussion point?

The odds of us getting in over UGA are slim and I put money on it (and I’d say very slim to the point of infinitesimal). But, they’re not joking. They are resolute in their absolutism. It’s baffling.

I think this is wrong in that if Bama beats Georgia, Texas would ultimately get the nod over Bama for the H2H and SEC is shut out. Of course Texas could get fucked in that scenario but I think common sense would prevail. There is no justification for Bama over Texas at that point based on September's result.

Not only will this not happen (SEC ain’t getting left out), but I also don’t personally agree with it.

So they'll pass up on Oregon and Texas to put in two SEC teams? I mean, that is possible, but it is extremely unlikely and would be completely against precedent. Given that we are in beauty pageant mode in this scenario, I'm not really worried about it. Nothing is guaranteed here, but I think the order of likelihood is Texas/Bama, Oregon/Bama, Texas/Oregon, Texas/Georgia, and then Bama/Georgia. Even if you disagree with this order, this scenario still gives Texas a chance unlike if Georgia and Washington win. Hence the zero reason to root for Georgia and Washington.

Fair point, and I made a mistake by saying “if FSU holds serve”. But in this scenario, Michigan is definitely in. Oregon is definitely in. Yeah, I think in event of a close Ga loss, Bama and UGA both go and FSU gets left out. I’m not certain we are ever really serious part of the discussion behind the scenes. Of course a lot of this depends on performance but with a blowout of OSU, and close uninspiring FSU win, maybe we become a serious part of discussion but we are the odd teams out.

It takes FSU losing for us to have ANY shot. IF they lose, Bama winning only hurts us by increasing the number of real competitors from 4 (I’m excluding tOSU), where we are likely in at #4, to 5 (again excluding tOSU), and that 5th is the most dominant team in CFP generation.  Thus, it’s stupid to root for Bama at 3 pm.

You are so hard to debate with because you cant even follow your own logic because you are a dolt.

You said "The committee’s job is to put the best 4 teams in. Period."

I said, "No their job isnt to put the best 4 teams in. It is to put the 4 most deserving teams in based on their body of work. Otherwise FSU would be #8 right now." (But FSU will obviously be in with a win based on their body of work)

Then you said, "That is absolutely the goal." Referring to putting the 4 best teams in.

I said "So we should expect FSU to be out even if they win? lol" (Because they clearly arent one of the four best teams at the moment)

Then you popped off with the retarded comment that you made above. Be better.

I’m done arguing with you dude. I even hope you’re 100% right on UGA not making it with a 3 point loss to Bama, and I pay you $100. Because that will mean we make it. But you’re extremely incapable of rational conversation. I’m not even saying you’re wrong. I’m saying I don’t know, versus your irreverent cockdaddy attitude. It’s tiresome.

We are on the same team.

If multiple teams from a single conference get in, it means that 2 of Michigan, FSU, and Texas lost. That's it. If we win, we aren't getting passed up for a team that isn't a conference champion.

Im not just taking what the committee says their guidelines are as gospel. I'm also looking at the results of the last decade to determine what they do. The rules are blindingly obvious. They look at overall record. And then they look at conference champions. They've only had to move beyond those metrics one time to select the four playoff teams. I don't think this is the year they change that.

There’s never been a year like this. Hence this talk and argument. I’m not overly concerned with UW losing - mainly because I think Oregon will crush them, and the PAC 12 doesn’t have the cachet that the SEC does. But I’m slightly concerned with a “they’re 1-1 on the season” narrative there. If UGA loses a close one, and FSU and Mich hold serve, you can bet your ass every bit of precedence in the last decade will be debated and challenged. You’re speaking as if UGA being left out is a foregone conclusion, and you’re 100% wrong. This is EXACTLY the year they change that. And rules?  There are no rules.

No it isn't. I am disputing it. ESPN's own playoff projector disputes it. Look up the definition of the word.

No their job isnt to put the best 4 teams in. It is to put the 4 most deserving teams in based on their body of work. Otherwise FSU would be #8 right now.

Disagree that the possibility doesn’t exist (as does like every media member), and I have a bet with a repetitive copy/paste jackass under certain parameters.

    That is absolutely the goal.

  12. 1 hour ago, Dahobbs said:

It isn't logical. You're rooting for a scenario that locks us in to a single possibility to advance. If all games were played simultaneously, maybe it makes sense. But since we will not know the outcomes at the same time, we will want each outcome to give us the highest number of chances to advance. This is simple game theory.

There are a litany of posters here that take the committee’s guidelines as gospel, ignoring the word guidelines. There will be an SEC champ in. That’s indisputable. There will be a PAC 12 champ in. That’s indisputable. I’d rather not open the possibility of multiple teams from either conference getting in. That’s what could very easily happen with chaos, combined with a lackluster performance by us at 11 AM Saturday.

The committee’s job is to put the best 4 teams in. Period. Posters have said the media doesn’t decide. The committee does, and of course this is correct, but the committee isn’t an infallible robot. It’s comprised of people no more intelligent than Rece Davis, Joey Galloway and Bohls. If we beat OSU the way we beat KSU or the way OSU beat BYU, and there’s a very tight SEC game with Bama winning, that’s a terrible scenario for us. If UW loses in triple OT, that’s a terrible scenario for us. This is really simple, root for Louisville, UGA, and UW in order of importance.

I agree that tOSU sitting there isn’t an issue - if we look good. The fact that the committee should tell us everything we need to know about how they’ll operate.

PSA: Texas as a 1 loss conference champion is not going behind a 1 loss non conf champion.

Especially Georgia, when the 4 major criteria they follow are:

    1. Conference Championship (Adv Texas, and Texas would own a road win over the SEC champ)

    2. Head to head (Not applicable)

    3. SOS (Adv Texas)

    4. Common Opponents (Adv Texas, we would have beaten Bama on the road and UGA would have lost at a neutral site)

And before anyone tries to say best loss, that argument collapses on itself because their "best loss" is to a team we beat.

Texas may not go in front of Bama or UO, that is debatable. But OSU, UGA, and Washington arent going in front of us.

Lock up the thread. The criteria (mere guidelines) have been cited. Discussion over.

  14. 36 minutes ago, The_Great_Hornsby said:

But you said, Texas was "fucked" if Washington loses or Georgia loses. Implying you think Texas wont go over either team. Is that your stance? You specifically wrote that the only way we get in is with FSU losing or Iowa losing and UW and GA winning. Anything else and we would be "fucked".

I think we’d have to get lucky with that much chaos. What about my stance do you not understand?

So you think a 1 loss Washington non conference champion or OSU could get a spot over a 1 loss conference champion Texas? I know you are on the record with your Georgia theory (and you are very very wrong on that one too).

I think all are possibilities. With UW and UGA winning, you eliminate the number of contenders. It is basic logic.

If FSU loses and so does Georgia or Washington, we arent "fucked". We are still going to the playoff in that situation.

UM, Bama, Oregon in for sure. Then it’s a toss up with, depending on the outcomes, UGA, Texas, UW, and tOSU, in that order.

I don't remember the details, but in 2014 wasn't TCU ranked 3rd leading into the conference championship weekend, and then because they didn't play some other teams that won their conference jumped ahead of them?  It is not exactly the same since other than Ohio St, all of the teams we are discussing are playing this weekend, but it does show that teams can be dropped for reasons other than losing.

Yes. tOSU won their CCG 59-0 over a Wisconsin team that was about as good as OU this year. Totally changed the narrative. TCU and Baylor cancelled each other out, some other shit happened and both were out. If you recall the B12 didn’t have a CCG at that point. That TCU team was much more talented than last year’s.
