  1. Got pretty drunk friday night and decided I absolutely MUST go to The National's Homecoming, bought festival tix and a flight lol. Never been to cincinatti. I think i might end up there solo. They're not chucking solo brown guys into the river there too, right? RIGHT!?

    Anyone wanna join?

Excited for The Walkmen reunion and Pavement, which was the deal sealer. But also, before COVID canceled the last scheduled Homecoming in 2020 they were supposed to play High Violet in full. Hoping they do a front-to-back set of something classic (hoping for HV obvs). They played Boxer in full for the 2018 homecoming.

My Mount Rushmore. This one hurt, saw him at a DJ set about a decade ago. Feels like it was yesterday, RIP.

In one year, about 15 years ago by now, I saw all of them perform separately in phoenix: Morrissey solo, Marr with Modest Mouse, and a DJ set each by Joyce and Rourke in a tiny indie club. Closest i got to "seeing the smiths" *shrug*

  4. His basslines influenced a generation of musicians who influenced a another generation after them

Listening to "Rank" all day and his performance on (Marie's the Name) His Latest Flame/Rusholme Ruffians is legendary. The whole set is amazing.

  5. looks like he does well handling balls from the flanks which is good because america is the only country that still does that relic tactic from 2002

  6. ferrera is such a fucking spare. kicked a gorgeous through ball RIGHT at stuver and lucked into a meg goal. then does the messi/memphis celebration against a 10 man club. ferrera needs to be buried at FC frisco for his lifetime.

  7. Fun tournament - thought it was worth its own thread.

Originally set to be hosted by Indonesia but stripped of its hosting privileges due to protests that Isreal would be involved in the Cup.

So, FIFA moved it to Argentina, which is in a more agreeable time zone for US viewership. Looks like each group stage match will kick off at 1pm and 4pm, and the US will play each match at 1pm (all in San Juan, ARG). Even thought the U20s take place every two years, 2021 was canceled due to COVID, so this is the first in 4 years. Ukraine are the reining champs (but failed to qualify for '23).

    US matches

And here is the roster that was just released. Austin FCs Owen Wolff is set to feature and may lead to some international offers post-tournament IMOI

  8. Rigoni looks 100% better on the left and pushed WAY up. He's not really a 1v1 one guy, but can take it to the corner for some great crosses. So who do we cross to then? Start Bruin at the #9 and just let the tree hit headers on frame, fuck it. Zardes is fucking washed man. He was washed 5 years ago. Redes, meh. That dude is so, so lost. Not even a high line disrupter. Owen Wolff is pretty great. He still shows world class potential, but we aren't playing the same system as last year, which would have feature his abilities more. Daddy Wolff is still mid af.

  9. take that back about Alien. Just re-listened and it probably one of the better melodies even though i don't love the lyrics. probably goes right after Grease for me.

  10. There is not enough Bryan Devendorf on this album for my taste. And I hate when artists drip-feed singles months before the album release; it ruins the anticipation and excitement of hearing the songs in context. I think the best songs were the ones already released, kind of like seeing the best parts of a movie in the preview.

There aren't enough percussions-driven bangers on this album, fine. But the lyrics get a bit schmaltzy on the slow jams and the melodies are a bit trite on the uptempo jams. I like it because Matt makes everything sound pretty good for the most part and its The National. It'll take me a while to love this album i think, once i'm able to align the prereleases back into the album and hear them in the context the band/producer wanted them, but right now its on the lower end of favorite TN albums.

    How I'd rank the tracks:

    1. Tropic Morning News

    2. New Order T-shirt

    3. Eucalyptus (best drums)

    4. This isn't Helping

    5. Grease in Your Hair

    6. Once Upon a Poolside

    7. Send for Me

    8. Ice Machines

    9. Your Mind is Not Your Friend

    10. The Alcott (really wanted more from this one)

    11. Alien

     * I reserve the right to change my mind after seeing this album live. Can't wait.
