Do you live in Austin?  You can get to $20k fairly easily (but yes, it's not average homes at that amount).  I don't think people outside of Austin realize just how much we pay in property taxes, the vast majority of which do not stay local.  It's, in part, how the state funds itself, and it should be criminal.  Almost half of it goes to AISD, which is to say it's stolen by the state to hand out to politically favorable suburban districts (and a big chunk just goes into the general fund).  Austinites are robbed blind by the State of Texas.

I left Austin many years ago. I get it, you got to do what you got to do, but damn.

If you’ll text me what kind of barrel it is I’ll text him today. Or PM me.

I want to replace the barrel on a Remington 40x in .22 rimfire. Preferably in the heaviest contour I can find. Something like .9 or 1” at the muzzle.

I can’t find anyone who can locate a barrel, much less have the knowledge to cut the shoulder, thread and chamber it. Which is fucked up because it used to be pretty easy to find a smith who could manage it.

I can't go that far.  It's important for major metro areas to have a community college, and ACC is one of the best in the country.  However, it's also quite inexpensive because of the property taxes levied against all homeowners (and by extension, renters) -- it doesn't need to be even less expensive.  I say this as a homeowner who pays almost $20K per year in property tax AND who has sent one kid to ACC for his impending bachelor's degree (yes, they have them now) and two others for a couple of early college credits.

I’m sure you have a nice place, but damn. 20k is a lot of money.

  4. I always thought there was a certain degree of mystery about them. Sure, it is easy to google something now. But when you had to buy some monthly publication, and hopefully they covered what you were interested in. Some basic shit went under the radar.
For me, I always felt they were far more cerebral than the average rock band. There was complexity to the arrangements that most top 40 lacked at the time. Not Yes or ELP complexity. Just not the simplicity of say, the Eagles.

I’ll also be the first to admit I never knew they used Skunk, and Larry (Mr. 335) Carlton. That is a pretty diverse pair of guitarists who approach the instrument from radically different points of view.

Then you have their attention to detail in production of the albums themselves. If you were an audiophile back in the day few albums moved the needle like the quality of sound you got from Aja. The production of that album made average stereos sound really good. Until then many high end stereo stores used shit like Gino Vinnelli’s People Gotta Move. Simply because it was perfect to audition something like JBL’s Paragon. Which ran about $10,000 in the mid 70’s.

  5. Unless it is specifically about rock guys. I always find it interesting guys like Max Roach, Sunny Grier or Lenny White never get mentioned in these conversations. It seems as if people are often judging the music they played and not necessarily the talent of the musician.

Just finished the season. Couldn't stop watching. So good. So many great performances.

Theo James for the next James Bond, imho, I told that to my wife about half way through the season, then googled it, and there had already been several articles written in the same vein in the last day or so. /csb

I thought the same thing. I had no idea others felt the same way. He just looked extremely comfortable in the role.

Anybody want to take a (non-cheating) guess as to who this is?

I would never have gotten this. I don’t think I have ever seen him with facial hair?

If Troy can’t do it Robert probably can. Troy will get Robert involved if needed.

Either way - you will be in good hands.

I’ll give them a call, thank you.

  9. I guess I’m an outlier. Yes, the cinematography was good not great. Some of the CGI stuff looked raw. The script was weak, especially when you consider what they decided to leave out.

If you enjoyed it, awesome. I’m glad I saw it in a IMAX theater. It would have been worse on a regular screen or on a TV.

Nope he’ll be the Corso replacement.

Saban replaces him as the coach on the panel.

Mcafee replaces him as the clown.

Sometime in the near future you’ll have:

Desmond, Reese, Saban, Mcafee, and Herbie with Mcafee putting on the mascot heads.

Just have to figure out how to not piss everyone off by kicking Corso off the show before he’s ready to go.

I’m an old guy so it’s not hate. But, as iconic as he is on GameDay, Corso should have politely retired some years ago. Give him his victory lap season and move on.

Watching Reese, Desmond and Herb try to prop him up when he struggles is one of the reasons I flip the channel when he gets air time. Maybe it’s my own mortality, but it is difficult to watch.

  11. My rant. Bob gets all the press, but his band was loaded with talent. Peter Tosh, Neville Livingston. Aston Barrett, Earl Lindo. Going to a Bob Marley show in the 60’s was an out of body experience compared to the typical rock and roll concert.

As a true follower of the genre from its beginnings from who worked with Marley like Desmond Dekker. Marley was great, he should get all the credit for commercializing Reggae. But, I always felt “The Bush doctor” Tosh had the highest ceiling. Especially once he signed with Rolling Stones records. But his ass went fucking crazy and burned it to the ground.
