How big is your spot and what is the soil like?  Those trees are very different shapes and sizes and like different conditions.

Why no oaks?  There are many varieties I love that you don't see as much as live oak but again where you want to plant matters.

Thanks for the list. It's a good sized spot (big enough for an oak). But I've already got some shumards, a Monterrey, and another cedar elm, which was why was looking to mix things up. Soil has lots of clay. My old place had lots of live oaks and I'm kinda over the mess they make and trying to keep grass alive under them.

We used to have a water oak when I was growing up that I loved. Might look into that as well.

What is surly's opinions on your favorite (non-oak) shade tree? I'm looking to put one in later this year.

I was thinking either an Cedar Elm or Ash (maybe Chinese pistache). I've always liked the ash but I know others think it's a trash tree.

Looking for small trees for privacy fence. Anyone know what these are? The white bark with the Holly type berries is the serrated leaves. The darker bark (2nd pic) is the rounder leaf.d9b0f6753f04206f58bb60fcc8916c2e.jpgbde7095d7a20e942bd7c79e7c1fdd981.jpg41076b05374c58629863178b462a518e.jpg

Even if Leal commits tmrw and doesnt flip, yes it's a big loss. Probably the biggest of the recruiting season. But it wont make or break either team. You're forgetting that Herman pushed in Jimbo's gaggle of 5 stars with a bunch of 2-3 star specials.

I still like our chance of making the playoffs over the next few years than Aggy's chance of sniffing it. So hike up your skirts and grab your tits.

  5. From that distance would be more of a guess than an identification and I know trees.  Left guess is Red Oak and right is better guess of live oak.
Thanks, builder actually confirmed was a red oak and live oak. Good guess!
