  1. I’m very partial to this older set.

It’s greater than even odds I could have been at this show. I didn’t miss them much whenever they played at VV or Blue back in that era between 2002 and 2006 or so.

I'm learning about all kinds of bands lately . . . any youtube recs for this guy playing with The Bad Plus?

I need to go down a rabbit hole and find some older ones but in the meantime here’s this:

  3. Good call on David King. I’ve seen him a few dozen times and he is a) all over the place, b) never where you expect him to be and c) always right on the money. Keeps the BP still sounding like themselves even after Ethan.

I’m not a jazz guy but “Never Stop” and/or “Vistas” would be desert island records for me.

  4. Yep. At least according to Seinfeldscripts.com.

It was close enough that it fooled me though. Either way, it’s an amazingly astute catch by you as one of our resident true experts in Seinfeldology.

I only knew it because I happened to just watch it. (And it’s a really great episode). I also remember subconsciously having a quizzical reaction. Like Farbman was too familiar but I never put my finger on it.

    So, kudos, fellow nerd!

  5. On a related note, all of Susanna Hoffs’ latest videos on IG she’s playing a little sunburst Guild and it sounds awesome. Or at least I think it does - for some reason it’s hard to pay attention with my ears.

  6. So, since the "email group" and this world are colliding, here's the song I had done for last month with a few small edits based on some of y'all's feedback. This song's about finding yourself lost and struggling and having to face reality with failure and addiction and pride all having you wasting your days....  Real light stuff.  I'm hoping to get started on November's soon.  And yeah, Celery and Sidis, the more I listen to both of yours, the more I love 'em.  True for the whole group, really.

  7. Yeah today I played some Martins and Taylors today and really loved both. Need to spend some more time but between the entry-ish level up to mid level guitars the difference was negligible. I also played a Guild that was really nice and had a great sound.

  8. So I know it’s probably been discussed many times over but I’m looking to upgrade the Yamaha 730 acoustic that I’ve had for the last 10 years. (Btw, it is and has been a fantastic guitar). As I’m still what I would call an advanced beginner, I don’t want to invest yet in a higher end guitar. Just want something that’s playable and sounds good and nice enough to keep me coming back to it.

Looking for something in a concert/auditorium or 00/000 size and ideally acoustic electric. I’ve played lower end Martín and Guild and Taylors and liked them all.

If you had max $1000-1200 where would you start?

    Green fuckin’ drums? Check.
    Offset rack toms? Check.
    Psychedelic blanket up top? Check.
T-shirts randomly stuffed in places that seem like they will serve a purpose? Check.

    Let’s rock.

  10. Elon has had catturd2, and Trump has...Roseanne Barr

That picture is capturing a person in cognitive decline, if not dementia or psychotic delusion.

I have little sympathy but it’s still sad. There was a time - granted, it was decades back - when Roseanne was considered original and creative and witty. She was subversive and counter-culture to what was then an aspirant class of, I guess, yuppies?

Now it’s just a sad grasp at fading relevance and a headband that inexplicably matches an inexplicably polka dotted dress.
  11. How is Jerry Garcia all the way down at 34? He could play like all of the others ahead of him on that list, but none of them could play the way he  did. Jerry Garcia is the GOAT!

I’ve heard reports of sarcasm meters being affected by recent sunspot activity. I’m not sure if mine is on the fritz.

    I do hope it’s the sunspot thing….

  12. I’m in awe of just about any good to great guitar player. I mean it. Playing even moderately well is impressive to me. But I have devised my own scale for how to rank the very best. It’s a an algorithmic formula based on how many times I audibly utter “holy shit,” “got damn,” or “Jesus Christ” when I listen to them play.

Based on this formula my rankings of the top 200 are as follows:

    1. SRV
    200(T). Everyone else.
