  1. Hi UT Tennis Fan, I hope your week is off to a great start! The NCAA draw and schedule were released yesterday, and as expected we will be hosting the first two rounds, beginning with a 1st round matchup vs Montana on Saturday at 1 pm at the Texas Tennis Center. If we were to get through Montana, we would take on the winner of Cornell and Michigan at 1 pm on Sunday. And if we manage to win that match we would also host the round of 16 one week later. If we were to fight our way through that round, the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final would be in Waco on Friday-Sunday, May 16-18. We obviously have a lot of work to do before we can really think about Waco, but I wanted to plant that seed in case you are able to be in Waco to support us. Given that the final 3 rounds are only a 1.5 hour drive from Austin, we will be counting on our Longhorn faithful to show up and make a difference if we make it to Waco. In the coming days, I will pass on some information on hotels that have availability and a cancellation policy that will allow you to drop your reservation if we don't make it to Waco. But other than passing this information along, you can rest assured that our focus will be squarely on Saturday's match vs Montana. For all the details on our NCAA draw, please click on this press release. Have a great week everyone, and Hook'em! Sincerely, Bruce Berque
  2. Hi UT Tennis Fan, I hope your weekend is off to a good start! Our team will be practicing tomorrow morning, and then will enjoy the first weekend off from competition since the weekend of January 4! That's a lot of tennis! Our move to the SEC just did not leave us much flexibility in our schedule at all. We have had our fair share of injuries, but I give a lot of credit to our 9 players for their toughness and consistency this year. To brag on their season a bit, we will enter the NCAA tournament (which starts on Saturday, May 3 at the Texas Tennis Center) with a record of 25-4, the #3 ranking in the country, and both the SEC regular season and SEC tournament championships. We also have the #1 ranked player in the country, as Timo Legout became the 3rd Longhorn to reach the #1 spot in the last two seasons (4th player if you count Sebastian Gorzny who was #1 in the unpublished rankings in the Fall). Timo, Sebastian, and Pierre-Yves Bailly were all named to the SEC First Team, while Timo was named both the SEC Freshman of the Year and the SEC Player of the Year. Our team was also honored as the most outstanding in the conference with the Coach of the Year award. For a full summary of these honors, please click on this press release. The NCAA draw and schedule will be released on Monday, and I will be back in touch then with all the details. I can tell you now, though, that we are 100% expecting to be the host site for the first 3 rounds, with the first two rounds being on Saturday and Sunday, May 3 and 4. If we are able to find our way through those matches, the round of 16 match would also be at the Texas Tennis Center on Saturday, May 10. Of course, nothing is guaranteed and we will have to earn our way through tough opponents each round, but if we manage to do that, the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals will be in Waco on May 16, 17, and 18. I am telling you this now, just so you can carve out those dates on your calendar. If we manage to make it to Waco we will be calling on all Longhorns to give us a home state advantage! I'll be back in touch on Monday or Tuesday with the specifics of our NCAA draw. Have a great weekend, and Hook'em! Sincerely, Bruce Berque
  3. https://x.com/CTennisNation/status/1915205224349696054 Off topic, I noticed he started to follow Jonah and had been following Oliver and the Texas Men's Instagram page. Does the team have any room to pick up transfers?
  4. Same. No issues with Victory and the Stars play there, as well! Go Stars!
  5. Our Longhorns came to play today, and the team was all about business in claiming a 4-1 win over South Carolina and an SEC tournament championship to go along with the regular season championship. Sebastian Gorzny and Timo Legout were named to the All Tournament Team, and Timo was named the tournament's MVP! Here is the full recap, which includes a video of Jonah Braswell's match point video clip! The NCAA tournament will begin in two weeks, and we will be back in touch with more detail after the selection show, which is on April 28. Until next time, Hook'em! Sincerely, Bruce Berque
  6. Is it just a conference tournament in Beach with no regular season?
  7. Was the team in a Conference this year? I believe they'll be in one next year.
  8. Hi UT Tennis Fan, Happy Easter (if you celebrate), and greetings from Columbia, South Carolina, where we will be playing against host South Carolina today at 4 pm (eastern time) in the SEC Tournament Championship match. Our path to the final has not been easy, but as they typically do, our guys rallied together despite being a bit shorthanded, and pulled out wins over Auburn (recap) and Tennessee (recap). Yesterday, Timo Legout clinched the overall dual match by rallying from down a set and 5-3, match point in the 2nd set to win 6-3 in the 3rd set. On Friday, Sebastian Gorzny provided the clinch, taking down an opponent who had beaten him the last time we played Auburn. Before Friday's semifinal match, Pierre-Yves Bailly was honored as SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year. Pierre has had a remarkable senior year, both on the court and in the classroom as a 3.9 GPA economics major. Here is the full story on Pierre's honor. Finally, congratulations to 2024 graduate, and 2022 NCAA doubles champion Cleeve Harper for cracking the ATP top 100 in doubles. Cleeve won the Tallahassee Challenger yesterday, and will move to #97 in the live rankings next week! Today's SEC Tournament Championship match will begin at 4 pm eastern (3 pm central time), and will be broadcast live on the SEC Network. I will circle back with you soon with a recap and a look ahead to the NCAA Championship which will begin in two weeks. Have a great day, and Hook'em! Sincerely, Bruce Berque
  9. Drove from New Braunfels to Grapevine and saw quite a few Dodgers fans at Buccee's. Sucks to be them!
  10. Not looking good against Tennessee, again.
  11. Why is Pederson still in the lineup?!
  12. Not looking good today
  13. Texas defeats #1 Georgia!
  14. Hi UT Tennis Fan, It is time for me to update the graphic at the top of this e-mail, as we are once again conference champions, this time in the SEC! Picking up a pair of 4-1 rivalry road wins over the weekend (over the Sooners and the Aggies), we moved our SEC record to 12-0 (21-3 overall) and clinched the regular season conference championship. For all the details, please click on the Oklahoma recap, and the Texas A&M recap. It was a true team effort in both matches, as we continue to manage injuries, and have different players step up when needed. Against Oklahoma, it was redshirt freshman Evan Burnett who answered the call at #6 to clinch the overall team win, and bring his dual match singles record to 3-0 in the SEC. Against Texas A&M, Sebastian Gorzny clinched both the doubles point (with Jonah Braswell) and the overall team win at #2 singles, after missing singles against Oklahoma due to injury. Timo Legout and Pierre-Yves Bailly continue to lead the way in singles, as they have combined for a total of just 1 singles loss in SEC play this season! We have two more regular season matches left, as we travel to Georgia (Friday at 6 pm) and Tennessee (Sunday at 1 pm) this weekend (times are eastern). The conference tournament will be the following weekend at the University of South Carolina. Then we will have a week off before the start of NCAA tournament play (we will host the first 3 rounds should we advance). Thanks for your support, and have a great week! Sincerely, Bruce Berque
  15. Texas clinches 4-1 against #22 OU without Gorzny!
  16. Tx loses doubles to OU and now Grozny isn't in the singles lineup.
  17. I saw the singles lineup during the doubles play and Oliver was projected to play. Since Texas won the doubles, I guess it was assumed they didn't need him during singles. Good sign for the immediate future.
  18. Glad to be able to watch it on espn+. Going to be an exciting relay!
  19. Hi UT Tennis Fan, I hope you had a great weekend! We got back late last night from a long SEC road trip, where we picked up a pair of hard fought wins, 4-1 over Arkansas (recap) on Friday, and 4-3 over LSU (recap) on Sunday. The wins moved our record to 17-3 for the season, and 8-0 in the SEC, with 6 regular season conference matches to go. Our last two scheduled home matches will be this weekend, when we will take on Kentucky on Friday, March 28 at 6pm, and South Carolina on Sunday, March 30 at 12 pm. These are two of the better teams in the conference, and it is going to take everything we have. If you are in town, we would sure appreciate you coming out, and recruiting all your friends to join you. Sunday's match will be senior day for Pierre-Yves Bailly, and he will be recognized for his outstanding contributions to the program just before the start of the match. So please plan on showing up by 11:45 am to make sure you get a good seat, and so you are there to pay tribute to PY! If you can make it out Friday and Sunday, you will be sure to see many familiar faces, as it will be alumni weekend. UT men's tennis players of multiple generations, including last year's seniors Eliot, Eshan, Micah, Evin, and Siem, will be out to support the current squad. Rumor has it there may even be a GA Bailly sighting, as we are hoping he will be here to support his brother. It will be fun for you to come out, catch up with the formers, and help them root on this current team as it continues its quest for an SEC title! Have a great week, and hope to see you this coming weekend! Hook'em! Sincerely, Bruce Berque
  20. Not once in her 4 yrs here did she play in the Fall. Injury proned, unfortunately.
  21. It actually ended at 4-1 but looks like all matches were played out. Definitely need Oliver back in the lineup.
  22. Mediocre team without Saby
  23. I'm rooting for PB in playing line 2.
  24. Hi UT Tennis Fan, We picked up another SEC win yesterday, with a 4-0 decision over Alabama at the Texas Tennis Center. We played a very good match in doubles and singles to bring our record for the year to 15-3 (6-0 in the SEC). Please click here for all the details of yesterday's win. We will hit the road this coming weekend for matches against Arkansas on Friday and LSU on Sunday. Then it is back to Austin and the TTC for a big weekend (March 28 at 6 pm vs Kentucky, and March 30 at 12 pm vs South Carolina). Those will be the last two regular season matches of the year, and Sunday's match against South Carolina will be senior day for Pierre-Yves Bailly. We are expecting several alumni of the program to be back in town, and I'm sure you will enjoy seeing them. If you will be in town, please mark your calendars and plan on joining us. We will need all the help we can get against Kentucky and South Carolina, two of the better SEC teams, as we continue to compete for an SEC title! Have a great week, and Hook'em! Sincerely, Bruce Berque
  25. Love to see the Future Longhorns teaming up and winning!
