  1. Tried Pinkerton. Basically no line not long after opening. Brisket had too much untrimmed fat and not well rendered. It was just a small ways away from being roast. Almost no smoke to it. Side were meh.

If I was going to eat right there again it would be across the street at Teotihuacan. Haven't been there in a year or so but judging from the full parking, and the huge amount of greasy smoke coming out of the roof vent, they still have it.

How hot in the middle of August?

    no A/C.

Fans will be provided if we ask.

    What say you folks?

Don't do it!!!!! Arrived in Paris late July once. Went up to room, HOLY SHIT there's no AC. Wife didn't check when she booked the hotel, you just kinda assume it these days.

It was so fucking hot until about midnight. This was about 4th floor, windows open. We had to put the weird fan the hotel had for us on a chair and tie it just right to angle down towards us. There's noise all night, those classic French police siren sounds, trash guys, street sweepers, drunks yelling etc. One of us would usually get up about 4am and close the windows since the room was cool by then and we didnt want all the morning noise.

You might get lucky and it be nice and cool, but if not, it's going to suck, and suck worse if it rains and then heats back up and its humid as balls.

Holy shit, where is that and what's the story behind it?

  4. Check with Smith Thompson, if they can tie in to your current system. If so it will be much cheaper, it's month to month so you can boot them whenever you want if something else comes along. I like that they have their own radio trigger, so no need for land or cellular phone line needed, system still works if that stuff is cut by thief.

My Samsung French door is a piece of shit. The ice maker freezes up every couple of weeks.

    THIS.

You know those circa 1980s pinball machines where you lose, and then it flashes some numbers and if your score matches it pops real loud and you get a free game? Our Samsung makes that sound when it's working well. Something in the ice maker defrost. Can't do a good Andy Capp couch nap because at some point that pop will probably happen. When I stop hearing that sound I know I will soon be putting it through it's defrost cycle, banging on it with a knife to chisel frozen ice chunks and ice stalactites, and then blasting with the hair dryer to get the rest of it loose. It's 2 years old and we have to do this about every 2 months. On the plus side the ice maker is still working, which is also apparently a thing with Samsungs.

Before this we rented a house with a pretty new LG. The freezer on it frosted up to the point some defroster fan motor couldn't spin, so it shut itself off. That was at least fixable. LG has it's own proprietary compressor and if/when it goes out you're proper fucked.

Whirlpool used to have the best ice maker. I'm not sure anyone has a good icemaker in a french door model. Oh one other thing that sucks about french doors. You wind up with a shit ton of stuff in the freezer. Stack it too tall and it may close ok, but then when you open it, items can drag over the top and fall down behind. Now you get to take everything out to get the freezer drawer out to reach that item. I sorta love the french door though when everything is working. Especially with the extra drawer to keep beer/drinks in.

  6. Big trees. Morro Rock has a short hike to get to a nice viewpoint. There's a tour through Crystal Cave. Really not a big multiday thing. Drive car under big tree. Climb on big tree. Walk around big big big tree. If you're lucky there will be some weirdo feeling the life force of the trees or something.

Bakersfield has some Buck Owens thing.

Boron has a big Boron mine. Small diversion to have a look from a distance. Also get some free boron crystals, that will go to shit in the Texas humidity.

  7. But look at Becker, Sampras, etc, well after Lendl, they were hitting as hard or harder than most now, serve wise, they don't have the top spin of Federer, yet the guys today are far more ripped, except for Federer. Federer looks like a tennis player. He would fit in anytime from Connors forward. Same with Agassi, and he did have great endurance. The guys today are much more chiseled. Not huge muscle size outside of a few years where Nadal was suddenly great on grass and hard courts, I mean you can find pics of Djoko, even Murray, where every single tiny muscle in their upper body is well defined. You might believe they are competing at crossfit, but not tennis. I don't think it was working out smarter that did this. I think Federer was so far ahead of all of them, that they had to PED to have a chance, starting with Nadal, and then you had two guys dominating the rest, so they had to ped to get back competitive.

I'm not saying Nadal wouldn't have won every French open he did without roids. That slow surface and his natural speed was enough, but I don't think he would have won half as many anywhere else, if any.

Bigger size as far as height, is more to do with the change in style of the game. Once wood frames went poof it became a power game. No need to be small and fast, just big and bomb any shot you happen to be able to get to.

  8. The crown prince is really opening things up. He visited a christian coptic church in Egypt last month, met with the pope, invited him to SA.

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-saudi-egypt-christians/saudi-crown-prince-visits-cairo-coptic-cathedral-meets-pope-idUSKBN1GH2R6

Basically a signal to terrorists, stop attacking the coptics.

Flights to Israel can now fly over Saudi airspace

    https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2018/02/saudi-grants-airspace-approval-flights-israel-180207115134490.html

and of course he was the one that locked up all the other princes and shook many many billions of dollars out of them.

So there's definitely going to be some attempts on his life at some point.

I hope he survives. If he cuts off the wahabist money, and Iran falls, and that's looking more likely, and their money flow to terrorist stops. The Middle East can get as close to peaceful as it ever will.

  9. Yeah they were even working Friday day, but sometime in the afternoon they seem to have stopped it. I read they are having 10% off storewide Sunday so Saturday is maybe the last day for the 20% off code.

Amazing how much stuff they have that's not a good deal even 20% off.

  10. The 20% off coupon has been going for about a week. Looks like they turned it off on guns, but ammo still works. I have several orders that are still pending. It's like they ship one thing, then once you get it, ship another.

1100 copper plated hollow point works out to just under 4c each delivered with tax to me.
