My daughter just turned 12, so I’m a few years ahead of you in terms of daughter wanting to spend more time with her friends than me.

But even though I got really mad at her in the morning because she wasn’t getting ready, during the evening rally (where all the “tribes” get together), she leaned her head on my shoulder.

I loved it… and hated myself for being so hard on her in the morning.

Indian Princess camp out is the best weekend of the year.  We do it the first Sat of December every year at a large youth ranch right in the middle of the state of Florida. Its is a combined campout with about a dozen tribes.  The different tribes have stink bomb and water balloon fights all night and some tribe always brings a bucket of crickets to turn loose in peoples' tents. Most of the tribes are from the same small town and most all know each other.

I dread the work leading up to it and the sleeping in a tent for 2 nights kind of sucks, but when we are back at home on Sunday late morning I am on top of the world.  The dad group rocks and we cook/smoke a ton of food all weekend.

A couple of years ago on our walk back to camp after the giant bonfire and my oldest ( maybe 12 at the ) asked " Dad, can we come when I am in college?"  all the dads laughed and told " Heck yeah, I will come as long as you girls want to"

My oldest is 16 now and I have approx 118 more weekends before she goes to college. I am trying my hardest to create as many lasting memories for us as i can.  Next up is a quick getaway this weekend to see the NCAA Women's Lacrosse National Championship game in NC.

My kids' HS team won their semi-final.  Playing in the finals next weekend in Houston if it hasn't floated away by then.

Let’s Go…..   this is awesome.  Best of luck Scary.

had a bit of an upset today in the FLA state semi finals.  A school from Naples beat the # 1 seed Saint Andrew’s.
    In over time..

The no contact phase is stressful. My kid didn't think she was truly good enough to play college volleyball. Then her club coach sent her this email.....

She still wasn't buying it until we were at Triple Crown in Kansas City and they were in hitting lines. She hit a ball and while running to the back of the line noticed the Wake coach sitting right there. They were in Orlando and Chicago as well, even videoing her when she was on the sideline. Now she probably isn't that high on their Christmas list, but it does tell her that if a P5 school like that is recruiting her, she is more than good enough to play D1 volleyball. So tell your girl to keep grinding and someone will scoop her up pretty soon. We are almost at the finish line. Also, we play AJV this weekend at regionals.

This is awesome.  Hope she gets a ton of confidence from this.

Happy to take a look. Our hands are really tied at the moment with regard to markets. Have we gone through this song-and-dance already? I've kicked the tires with so many Surlyites, it's hard to remember if we've already tried before. If not, shoot me a PM and I'll give you my email address so you can send me renewal auto dec pages for Progressive. Do you have claims? Also, let me know how big the house is as that might open a few other doors for us.

On a happier note, based on a few back-and-forth EM's with @Dish Boggett above, I was able to help him positively resolve his umbrella situation.

I will vouch for  C-Man.  He saved me $2k on an umbrella coverage.

    I love figs.

I love figs too, tell us more about the fig crops.  Do the birds eat them before they are ripe?

Slime mold. Should be able to spray with water and/or rake to clear it up.  It will also just go away on its own in a few days

That's what my fraternity brother told me, it ended up taking a couple shots of penicillin to clear it up.

That is awesome Re: UT Mens Lax. I don't follow the MCLA but I will start.

There were a lot of good NCAA mens and women's lacrosse this last weekend. The UVA v Cuse was great as was the Maryland John's Hopkins game.

We are into the state playoffs currently in FLA, regional games this week. Have to travel 2.5 hours south into the depths of Miami tomorrow evening for a 7:00 pm game. if we make it out alive, we will play again next week down there.  accepting all prayers I make it back alive.

Made it out Miami alive, but we lost so the HS season ends for us.  Not a bad one overall finished 12-4 and highest state rankings in 20 years.

My oldest (10th grade), despite missing 6 of 16 games, still leads the team in goals, draw controls and incidental fouls. Surgery for the ACL is next month so hopefully she makes it back mid season next year.

Good luck to all that are still playing.

  9. I have been notified by 3 different organizations I do business with in the last 2 months about data breach and my personal information may have been exposed. Most recently I was notified by my bank. The have arranged for a 1 year complimentary  membership  with Identity Defense Tool ( never heard of it).

Just starting to research all the options available as it seems that it inevitable.

What does Surly think?  Are these services worth the money?

Thanks for the replies and forgive my transgressions. Will do better on posting in the appropriate thread moving forward.

Also I probably should have added that the questions were mostly in jest and seeking comical responses.

I know one thing is for sure....unless he's good enough to get on an actual good travel ball that actually is "select" team and start we will not be doing the travel ball thing. That cash grab can go fuck itself these days.

I said the same thing 15 years ago.  Now I have 3 on 3 separate club teams.  It’s short lived too and I am enjoying every minute.

We are going kirkland diapers as they are made in the huggies factory. I think size 1-3 of Kirkland for 190ish diapers it's 35$ for 4-6 they are 45$ for 170ish

Not too bad.. anyway the diaper stage is short lived.  Heads up it doesn't get any cheaper. You will spend more on a season of club volleyball than you did for all diapers combined.

again costco is awesome for this (same for sams) on a cost standpoint. BUY A BUNCH.

Can't imagine the cost of diapers currently. In the early Obama years we had 3 in diapers at the same time.

At the time the cheapest way to get them was through amazon subscribe and save. unit costs were about $.25/each

My best Dad pro tip:  Whatever your partner asks you to do, do it happily, and don't bitch even if it was tough or really reallly OU level sucked.  Embrace the challenge and take it on with a smile, and perhaps a little shit, on your face.  Don't be a blackhole of bitchassedness, everyone knows it's tough and you'll just set a shitty tone for everyone.

    Listen to this man

Well IVF worked! Since our previous disaster and our age, we will be considered high risk. Lots of blood work and ultrasounds coming up. Stress level has risen considerably. Google is the worst invention of all time. Way too much information at the tip of my fingers. Lol. Due date is going to be right around the day we lost our first daughter. We are excited and cautiously optimistic. All the positive vibes would be appreciated. Thanks for all the support and kind words over the years!

Awesome news OCU, sending out positive vibes wishing you two the best.    Stay positive for her.  You got this.

R1S, I do really like it. They just unveiled the next model R2S which will be a little smaller SUV starting at 47.5k (in 2026)

How does it compare size wise with a Tahoe? On my 3rd Tahoe and have always liked them.  I use all of the space behind 2nd row for some tool boxes and other items.
