I'm partial to Hyundai for some reason, and I have lots of time on my hands here above the Arctic Circle this week, during spring break, -33 degrees in the morning, and I expanded my search just now and found a new 2024 Hyundai Tucson for 25k, $6500  under MSRP..huh?

Does it come with heated seats?

What can I say?  I'm a glutton for punishment, I suppose.  I still say my dream job is owning a business that has no customers and no employees.  Haven't figured that one out yet.

I think that’s called consulting or being an expert witness

I have two businesses.  Residential general contracting and plumbing / electrical / HVAC service.

The punishment and misery of owning a  GC business wasn't enough? Had to double down?

  4. Bought a new GMC for in December, did all of the negotiating with them via text. Once we agreed to a price I sent them  all the information and driver's license ETC. In and out of the dealership in less than 45 mins. went well

Bought a certified pre-owned for my oldest last month from a different dealer and it was a pain and had to deal with the typical used car salesmen BS. The advertised price was based upon a trade in and financing through them or add $3k to the price.

I got out of there at the advertised price but it wasn't easy or fun.

Advice- know what you want and what it is worth , negotiate via text as much as possible. and best of luck.

  5. Necro of all necro bumps here..

Surely there are a few lacrosse fans or Dads of lacrosse players on SH.

5 games into the the High School season here in FLA and my 3 daughters are all playing on the same varsity team for the first time this year. Occasionally all 3 Lil Boggetts are on the draw circle at the same time.

    Anyone else have kids playing?

    anyone?

    Bueller?

I got me another 100 to put in VOO and every other Wednesday there’s been a drop. Dec 6, 20, Jan 3, 17, 31. Not sure if there’s a reason, but I’ll be looking for one on Valentine’s Day.

the drop may be a day early this week

man.. takes me back. i could legit shoot flies off shit at 20 paces with mine. And those little green army men? Forget about it, I could knock them off from halfway across the yard.

similar to  my memories,    Mine was was Dad's hand me down from the late 1950's, was fairly worn out and had the tendency to misfire when it was being cocked. One day I had it between my legs trying to cock it ( I was may 6 or so) and it misfired and i didn't know it at the time but it shot the parent's bath room window. Well the gun went away for a few months after he discovered the hole a few weeks later.

Growing up in the 70s, I was convinced that the imminent global ice age was going to wipe us all out, oil would run out by 1980, no one ever survived the Bermuda Triangle, and that quicksand was around every corner and I was definitely going to encounter it.  Well, the first three all proved to be false, and now, for you fellow Gen Xers, here's the tip that will save your life.

That's not how David Banner did it on the Incredible Hulk episode that forever seared the dangers of quicksand into my youthful, impressionable brain.  I think every popular TV show during era had a plot line involving QS, including the Love Boat.

    Meta up 20% today.

Big turnaround since I bought it (last year?). At one point, was down 30%, now up 100%.

When do you start taking down the bets?  Do you play the same way you would when the hot lady, with fake tits has hit 5  numbers in a row at the Craps table?

Asking for future reference, if i am ever in the situation and all

My daughter got into UT today. I’m having peak dad emotions! Hook em!

Congratulations to you and her. That's awesome. I took a quick glance at the acceptance rate of UT. Even for in state students it is really low.

So - what's your personal philosophy on readers?

My philosophy is that you can’t have too many of them.  Stash multiple pairs in lots of different places. Night stand , truck, toilet room, office, garage, kitchen.  You will notice they always collect in the same places and you have to redistribute them once a week or so.  We buy them by the 6 pack from the Jeff Besos every couple of months.

If you are a long term investor, then you should invest, if you are worried that the fund may drop then DCA over 6-12 months if you are talking about a large sum of money. But I have learned that you can't time the market. And if you think you can then you are wrong, or maybe you have been lucky.

I am just a member from Ye' Old Shaggy of yester year that started a new business and family/kids about the time of the glorious melt down. I wasn't cool enough, smart enough or had the time to find the new site until recently.

Initial impression of Surly is that the site is pretty much the same as the old site which is awesome. I love the running jokes and sense of humor. Glad I found it and hoping to merge back in gracefully.

BTW how do i get access to the new NSAA?

Oh- thanks for the reply above. The business is doing well and for the first time in my life I have a decent amount of savings that I need to invest wisely and long term.

While true, a porcupine quill ultimately did in my chocolate lab Jolie.

Unknown to us, one broke off in her mouth, embedded in her gum. A curious thing about quills is they continuously bore into whatever they are stuck in. She started having recurring infections. Antibiotics would knock it out for a week, then it would return. We played this game for a few months, then finally an xray revealed the problem. By the time we had this info it had drilled all the way into her jaw bone. She was 14, the infections had weakened her to the point that the vet had doubts she would survive the surgery.

We took her home to the woods and managed her pain until it was time.

My wife called me at work to let me know what I had to do when I got home. Fed her a moose steak and gave her one last wheeler ride to the river she loved to swim in.

Hardest trigger I’ve ever pulled. Put her in the river she loved.

I’ll be hoping Charley and Emmy fully recover.

I like SPY, because it is actively traded. So that is what I have in my account that I play in the options market; for long term investments I have VOO and some FXAIX, depending on where the funds are sitting.

    Wally, et al

-if someone was interested in buying into VOO and FXAIX as a long term investment should they worry about buying with indexes at or near all time highs? or spread this initial purchasing out over some time period?

    -asking for a friend

  15. Listen,  did you know you know that an electrical receptacle is called a " Charging Hole" and when it is cool/cold out side you can wear your "Colder-Roy" pants?

Question for Dads: son (6th gr) has sport practice 3x a week, and soon will have games on yet another day l. Do I make him (or guilt trip?) go to every practice? Sometimes he says he's tired. And well, maybe he is. But isn't developing the grit to do practice anyway part of the point? My wife thinks I'm too serious about this and a borderline asshole.

I am a firm believer that if you sign up for something you see it through to the end and you fully commit especially for a team sport. I have 3 daughters who are all damn good athletes ( moms side mostly) and they all love to go to practice so this isn't something I have had to deal with.

Also when you miss practice you are putting the team at a disadvantage but not being able to get the most out of it.

Playing time should suffer as well, which will build animosity toward the sport or team and from there is a downward spiral.

That is a sweet looking listening space.

Is that your Lodge cast iron skillet also?  does he use that as some type of effect for his guitar?

Where are you guys parking cash? Right now I’m getting 4.8% in JP Morgan money market account. How does that compare to what you Gordon Gekkos are doing?

I moved some cash from my business account to an on line savings at BMO Alto last fall. earning about the same as your JP Morgan.

found it through bankrate.com. ( clarification:  I am just a dumb on old general contractor, no Gordon Gekko)

he’ll always get a pass from me for his writing on his “modern west” trilogy

I was late to the whole Yellow Stone and 1893 series. I listen to T Sheridan on a podcast recently talk about the influence of Lonesome Dove had on him so I thought I would start with 1893.  It's pretty good but hard not to see all the similarities in the story line and Characters.

Shea Brennan is no Woodrow F. Call.
