Fuck off, you lying piece of shit.

And they're not the assholes.  YOU ARE.

"Gee, I wonder why, when I go through my life treating person after person with scorn and contempt, they don't bend over backwards to please me."

You're a piece of shit who gets what they deserve, every time you have a bad experience.

That was in response to places you could work and do "just enough".

Work on being less consistently wrong. Love your passion though.

Yes.  My customer service experience with (fucking name it.....ordering food?  Tech help?  Insurance issues?  Retail sales?) in the private sector has been stellar, and demonstrates that the private sector is the end-all, be-all.

Jesus fucking Christ.  Simply regurgitating tired right-wing talking points, ignoring the log in your own eye.

People in jobs that treat them the worst - low pay, subject to abuse from the public/their superiors - tend not to perform at a high level.  Shock and surprise.

When it comes to the public sector, attitudes like yours are a self-fulfilling prophecy.  What person in their right mind would want to go into teaching right now?  People like you are going to hate on them as "indoctrinating kids" when all they're fucking trying to do is teach the basics, shit on them as lazy even though they will give much more of their own time and effort than the job actually requires, demonize them at school board meetings, and vote for officials who gleefully starve them of pay.  And you wonder why the quality of our teachers declines.

You're a piece of shit, who treats people like shit, and then wonders why they don't all bend over backwards to serve you.

Good God you're dense. I've never once said anything about teachers yet you keep bringing them up.

And I'm not saying all government employees are assholes. I've focused much more on them being lazy.

You get so hung on what you want to say, you're not even paying attention to what you're responding to. Take a deep breath.

I will confirm the percentages for the private sector.

    80% completely fucking useless

Equating public and private sector efficiency is so obviously stupid, it's not surprising that you're doing it.

Bingo.  Public sector.  Private sector.  Church committees.  Your boy scout troop.  You name it, that's a common experience.

I do think it's perhaps exaggerated by those of us who have some pretty damned high standards, but the point remains that in any given situation, the group of "meh" is always much larger than the group of "these dudes get shit DONE."

It's exceedingly hard to get fired from a government job. Any idea what effect that has on performance?

that's the difference in your supposed 20/80 split. As MIA pointed out, a large amount of government employees could not get comparable jobs in private sector and are unfireable. Again, guess what happens?

There are a shitload of people in those contemptible “government jobs” who deeply care about their job, what they are supposed to accomplish, and the people they serve. Sure, there are some shitty and lazy people - just like there are in the private sector. But you just shit all over all the people who make sure you have water to drink, your toilet flushes go somewhere to be treated, your grandpa gets medical treatment, your neighborhood’s kids learn to do multiplication, all kinds of shit. I can tell you from firsthand observation that a metric shit ton of those people care about their jobs and try damned hard. And many of them are super frustrated that they have to scramble to do more with less because pieces of shit like you have managed to so denigrate all types of public service that they constantly lose funding and support…but they keep on keeping on.
Your fucking asshole attitude is exactly what drives good people out of any public service job (and yeah, I’ve seen that happening in real time). The problem is you, asshole. “ASSHOLE” is the biggest problem we face as a society, and you are clearly one of their gaping examples of that.

Do you know why most people go work at the VA Brisket? So they won't have to work as hard. Won't have people pushing them to get things done faster.

I didn't say every government job. I know there are important ones.

I mentioned the DPS office and VA hospitals. I haven't worked at a DPS office, but they seem to be lazy af with little accountability. Next time you go, notice how they're talking about they just got off break or when their next break is while they're checking you out.

I've worked at a VA hospital. They're notorious for being staffed by some of the most inefficient, lazy, unmotivated people you could imagine. I stand by that. Not everyone, but if that's your goal you'll fit in great there.

I'll throw in the TSA. They fucking suck and never accomplish anything safety wise. Unpleasant, doing the bare minimum. If you want to Stan for the TSA, then have at it Brisket.

The best way to beat inflation even on big ticket/high inflation items has been and will continue to be BTC.

Maybe that's part of why I rest easily. Kind of sad how angrily people react when you aren't as stressed or neurotic as them.

Going back to the original point, going to be pretty incredible when we get to 1 BTC=median house.

  11. Just for fun here’s the chart of McDonalds earnings per share over time using it as a simple proxy for fast food prices/business.

    IMG-1441.jpg

Has gone from pre Covid peak of 7.88 to 11.56. A 46% increase.

CPI cumulative increase in that time is mid to upper 20s I believe. If you count CPI as bulletproof then that's a difference in the upper teens, percentage wise. Is that gouging? Judgment call I guess. If you think cpi underestimates inflation then definitely not. Either way, burgers don't cost $5 to make.

Let's take the business out of producing mass quantities of food for the population. Maybe even hand the power over to the government. Not a bad idea. Has anyone thought of that before?

Capitalistic greed has made everything so expensive. They can’t afford to buy a house or luxury items. God forbid we mention how expensive everyday essentials like food has become.

It's a perverted version of capitalism, if that. Central banks and governments printing money continuously to bail out big banks or other big industries isn't capitalism. The root of this stuff really goes back a ways.

But then shutting down the global economy for Covid and printing trillions of dollars really got the ball moving.

Great post Brisket. Reading about this report has had me thinking about it all morning. It's funny, by any objective measure, I am a success. I still feel myself on that hamster wheel because I see others that at least outwardly seem more successful. For instance, I look at the houses in Austin that are a step above mine and I'm not sure how so many people seem to be able to afford them. It's not contentment that I live in a good neighborhood already, it's "why can't I do what those people are doing"?

The funny thing is, for a myriad of reasons, I don't actually want that. Buying a $1M would drive me nuts with the cost of upkeep, taxes, etc. But I want to be able to do it.

Four car garage and you're still building on.

Sounds like it's time you got back to the basics of love.

Let me preface this by saying that COVID was dangerous and we die the best we could with hard choices.  That said:

    - It absolutely wrecked young people’s shit to all go home for like a year and half. We forget that a year is a damn long time to a kid and that people 15-25 are the ones who most need to be around peers. We are still unwinding what that means and of course in the U.S. we did it the hard way.

    - Youth social media is WACK.  I really believe TikTok’s algorithm is tweaked to show young people videos of people who are unhappy and unstable and want you to feel that way, too.  I am a huge believer in mental health and therapy when needed but there’s a whole, very popular genre, of influencers insisting that normal life challenges like going on a bad date or having a shitty job for a while are in fact brutal trauma.

    Agree with all your points.

I will say reaching the endgame of our debt supercycle is also crushing to many young people. Elevated cost of living, wages not keeping up, the ridiculous and still rising cost of college, can't afford a house. A lot of problems there.

Oh, also they've been beat over the head about climate change for most of their lives which seems to have given a lot of people existential dread, unnecessarily.

I am curious, not trying to be a dick, but what is the ceiling for bitcoin?
I have never really been able to grasp the economic model that drives the valuation, other that it goes up because everybody wants some.
Explain to me like I'm an idiot, what would be a good entry point and exit point for this as an investment.
I get that it is an alternative to a fiat currency (US$) because those can get devalued by disaster, coup, cyber attack that locks up the banking system, etc.

I don't think anyone here is a dick.

I think FirstTimeCaller has it right. The next big milestone (after 100k) is gold market cap. Will it get there this cycle? I'm not sure, but gold bugs are going to get rekt relative to bitcoin.

Bitcoin is more easily movable than physical gold, it's easily divisible, it has a set supply. The main knock on bitcoin vs gold is a big one. History and convention, but every year that passes that means less as trust is built in bitcoin. It will be interesting to see the breakdown in a year or two between how many investment funds or etfs hold allocations to bitcoin vs gold. As for nations and how they value gold...

24 minutes ago, Nice Guy Eddie said:

As for sovereign funds, publicly this has been limited to smaller funds like with El Salvador but what happens if the oil rich Middle East funds decide to drop $100b into crypto?

This is a big deal and I've said before that I think a "real" country comes out in the next year or two as holder of bitcoin. I think it's most likely to be what they've gained mining. Oil and gas producers are known to have interest, many are mining with flared gas etc. So that's your list of countries to think about. To me a sovereign or multiple sovereigns mining now explains the explosion in hash rate despite decreased prices through 2023. What happens when Saudi, Qatar, or duh duh duh Russia come out and say they have large bags. We as Americans will scoff at it, but the world will take notice.

The big pie in the sky numbers come from what's after gold? If bitcoin is entrenched as valuable asset/property, then I think it's feasible it takes some of the store of value market away from real estate, maybe bonds. Large markets. Think about it.

    vs Real Estate

pros-more liquid, less hassle from maintenance, tenants

cons-no income streams, RE better tax treatment

    vs Bonds (especially longer bonds)

pros- not being paid back in debased currency, possible appreciation

cons- no coupon like bonds, bonds backed by governments

This is all a long way to say I'm not sure what is the ceiling. Something like this has never been created before. The ramifications are pretty fascinating.

29 minutes ago, Wally Fairway said:

This could be one example of why your roll your 401k into a self directed IRA, you can buy crypto ETF.
Thinks that make me go - hmmm this is something to think about 🤔

True story. Before ETF passed I decided to rollover my 401k from old employer to self directed IRA. It's at Vanguard, so no ETFs allowed. Instead I bought MSTR. It's been unbelievable, the last couple days notwithstanding.

I just think this bull cycle is such a clear bet I couldn't look at the employer retirement in SPY etf and leave it. I plan on having some hard decisions in about 18 months about withdrawal of large sums vs waiting 15 years to pull it out, but that's another discussion.

I said it a while back on the previous scat site and got laughed out of the room, but we need a distinction between press and media. Press is a protected class by the Constitution (that darn thing again) and should be treated as such. Real journos have to go to school and be trained for their craft - make it a profession that requires licensing just as you would an architect, doctor, lawyer, etc. Make continuing education part mandatory, enforced by a regulatory board that creates standards and practices. Just as with any professional organization, if you do your job poorly enough, you can no longer hold a license. That's The Press. EVERYTHING else is media and is given all the appropriate disclaimers and such as you would say, South Park.

I think you have an elevated opinion of journalists. They're all people with biases that come out through the selection of stories to cover (present to audiences), or their framing of the stories. Of course it's always been that way, but with the passage of time and more access to information it's become clear that is the case.

And I hate to break it to you but appeals for credentialism are much less effective than before as well. This especially accelerated after COVID.
