Yep, this is the EPIC-SR trial that I referenced earlier in the thread. Pfizer ended the trial early because it was a nothingburger.  Yet we still get bombarded with TV ads to take this thing when they've known for some time it doesn't work.

So does that mean they’re not trusting the science?

The fact is being one of the biggest (the biggest?) sources of ad revenue makes Big Pharma a major player in swaying public opinion and policy.

CDC page updated in Jan 2024 still pushes paxlovid.

    https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/clinical-care/outpatient-treatment-overview.html

    What You Need to Know
    • There is strong scientific evidence that antiviral treatment of persons with mild to moderate illness who are at risk for severe COVID-19 reduces their risk of hospitalization and death.
    • The antiviral drugs ritonavir-boosted nirmatrelvir (Paxlovid) and remdesivir (Veklury) are the preferred treatments for eligible adult and pediatric patients who are at high risk for progression to severe COVID-19.
    • Clinicians should consider COVID-19 treatment in patients with mild-to-moderate COVID-19 who have one or more risk factors for severe COVID-19. Treatment must be started as soon as possible and within 5-7 days of symptom onset

What are the risks factors for severe Covid-19 might you ask?

    From the link.

Age is the most important risk factor for severe outcomes of COVID-19. Risk factors for severe COVID-19 include:

Age over 50 years, with risk increasing substantially at age ≥ 65 years

Being unvaccinated or not being up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations

Specific medical conditions, including immunocompromising conditions

More evidence of a corrupt, captured organization and public health apparatus.

The site has an ignore feature.  The fact that you circumvent that by continually creating new accounts makes you a very distasteful person in this arena.

Also, color me extremely skeptical that anything you’ve ever posted has “helped other posters make money”.

    Kindly fuck off.

I don’t have to share the receipts.

At the time of my first post on this forum bitcoin was 7k. If you don’t think that six years and 10x later, that I’ve helped anybody make money then I don’t know what to say.

Let’s say I get 1000 negs. Easily 80% are from like 10-12 posters. So if 10 people here hate me I shouldn’t be able to post on the forum?

I like talking about this stuff here, and I’ve helped other posters make money. I think my contributions to the site are a net positive.

No to go CR, but how they SBF get arrest, tried, convicted in seemingly no time at all while folks like Paxton and Trump see their stuff go on forever?

Good point. I'd think maybe the laws around a private citizen committing brazen fraud are more clear cut and less open to frivolous procedural challenges that muck things up with someone in a public office.

Serious question -- we have any evidence that big accounts have dumped coins in large amount? I haven't seen that and considering that BTC has gone from pennies to literally tens of thousands of dollars, it seems like it would have happened so far. If you were early and scooping up BTC for $5 a coin, would you not dump it at $1K or $10K?

From what I've seen, a huge chunk hasn't moved in a long, long time. I'm actually wondering if it hasn't moved because it simply can't (lost keys).

    https://blockworks.co/news/bitcoin-movement-three-years

Is it a situation where people say there are 19 million coins mined but far, far fewer are actually able to even be sold? I honestly don't know.

blockchain analysis is an inexact science imo. But here's an older breakdown. coins have distributed slowly over time. Still, the vast majority of coins haven't moved over years.

It is an odd thing.  Far different from USD or gold and any other financial instrument.  If more and more people are using it as currency and there’s no increase in supply, the price will continue to go up which seems like it would become severely deflationary.  If Bitcoin’s value is in its use as a currency, but its price continues to rise to the point that it cannot be used as currency…….

Clearly a lot of people have made money on Bitcoin, and I have not made any, so maybe that means my opinion has no credibility.  I’m certainly no expert on blockchain or crypto.  But I still remain skeptical, if for no other reason than every single loud proponent of Bitcoin that I personally know is a fucking idiot.  I also believe that change control and government intervention are real risks to its value.

My opinion is that Bitcoin is a store of value.  An alternative to inflating USD and overpriced stocks.  It’s having a moment.  I’m not going to try to time that and if Bitcoin continues to go up forever, I am comfortable continuing to miss out.

Saylor's description of bitcoin is as digital property. Less emphasis on currency. Then it causes less confusion in people.

Now if there ends up being some hyperbitcoinization event, then it will be end up a currency with more stable value at the end. That would be far off though.

Here's an interesting interview I'm about halfway through. I don't expect anyone to watch, it's long but anyway here it is.

He makes some interesting points about the definition of currencies. There's the 3 points. Medium of exchange. Store of value. Unit of account.

Out of all the currencies in the world there's only 3 or so units of account. USD, Euro, CNY.

None of the global currencies, including USD, are really stores of value. Anyone with any amount of assets tries to hold as little cash in checking account as possible. You buy stocks, or real estate, or gold or whatever to store value.

If Bitcoin is all about supply and demand, opening up the ETFs is just a huge influx of demand from people who didn't know or want to go through the trouble of purchasing on Coinbase, etc. (It's much more cumbersome than simply buying an ETF through your existing brokerage account.)

    Meanwhile, supply is drying up.

    It really is that simple.

Barring a black swan event like some catastrophic bug in the software or the accidental leak of an engineered virus from a foreign lab, this year is going to be huge.

Yes all that dumb hedge fund and wall St money coming in.

Listen I get it, for once the little guys were able to frontrun Wall St and you didn't participate. In fact, you did the opposite and hated on it for YEARS instead.

I’d recommend taking the L and joining in. In a year you can buy your wife something nice. Maybe do some big renovations or something. She’d appreciate it.

    Spoiler

Short sellers are still betting billions of dollars that the rally in cryptocurrency-linked stocks fueled by a surge in Bitcoin will eventually end.

Total short interest, or the amount that contrarian traders have pledged against crypto stocks, has increased to nearly $11 billion this year, according to a report from S3 Partners LLC on Monday. More than 80% of total short interest in the sector are bets against MicroStrategy Inc. and Coinbase Global Inc.

Paper losses for the group have mounted to nearly $6 billion as a more than 65% year-to-date run for Bitcoin has lifted the rest of the sector. Still, the cohort is doubling down on such positions.

“Crypto stock short sellers have been selling into a rallying market – either looking for a pullback in the Bitcoin rally or using the short positions as a hedge versus actual Bitcoin holdings,” Ihor Dusaniwsky, managing director of predictive analytics at S3, said in the report.

Over the last 30 days, traders betting against crypto-linked stocks have increased their positions, especially in MicroStrategy even as its shares climbed. Traders have poured $974 million into bets that the enterprise software maker will fall. That’s more than offset short covering — or contrarians buying back stock to exit trades — in shares of Coinbase, Marathon Digital Holdings Inc. and Hive Digital Technologies Ltd. in that period, per S3.

The increase has pushed total short interest in MicroStrategy higher, taking up more than 20% of its total float, or shares outstanding, per S3. The company is now one of the most-shorted stocks in the US market, stacking up against much bigger companies such as Nvidia Corp., Microsoft Corp. and Apple Inc.

Of course, there could be more pain ahead for short sellers if their bets against crypto-linked stocks are incorrect. Many names in the group are poised for short squeezes, a phenomenon where short sellers are forced to buy the stock back to exit losing positions and in doing so push the price higher, further pressuring other traders.

MicroStrategy, Coinbase and Cleanspark Inc. are all poised for a squeeze given their rally and a limited amount of available shares left to short, according to the S3 report. So far this year, MicroStrategy is up almost 200%, while Coinbase and Cleanspark are up about 60% and 115%, respectively.

Fuel for the fire. Love it.

As someone who has been on the bridge of a large vessel during docking maneuvers, I thought I would share a little about how it works.

    1.  The guy steering the boat isn't the captain.  Some low level dude.

    2.  He's not holding a large wheel like Jack Sparrow.  It's probably a knob on a panel.

    3.  Captain and pilot are standing nearby drinking coffee.

    4.  If they lost steerage, or power, this unfolded slowly and there was little they could do.

Is there anything about these big ships that makes them more likely to lose power at low speed vs cruising? Or just straight up terrible luck?

  11. Just now, CoTex said:

It's complicated.  If you watch traffic in the Corpus Christi ship channel, from Port Aransas on in, sometimes they use tugs.  Spinning a big ass prop in a narrow channel with an 18 knot crosswind is a tricky proposition.  Using the tug comes with its own cost, problems and risk.  Is it going to connect with a cable?  is it just going to ride on one side of the bow and push/pull?  Those tug guys get killed from time to time because that job is dangerous.  Hooking up tugs to everybody coming and going isn't a guarantee.

I guess one could be thinking "rescue tug" that just sits there by the bridge and when something goes awry they go lasso the ship, throw it into reverse, and save the day.  It would be fun to watch but I doubt it's a realistic plan.

Data point - internet says wind was 6mph, gusting to 17, at 2am.  I'm pretty sure that would be considered almost calm/very mild for this operation.  Wind was not a factor.  They had momentum and lost steering / power somehow.

This is something I saw online. Not sure of validity.

I'm getting the snip so I'm done at three, but to be honest, once you have 3, you could have 5 with no big life changes (other than vehicles). When the older ones have friends over, it's honestly much easier.

Ooh I’m afraid that's not true.

I'm reminded of the Jim Gaffigan line about having 4 kids. Imagine you're drowning and then someone throws you a baby.

Some definite changes happen. You can convince yourself to try to squeeze 5 into a bigger hotel room or one with a pullout couch or whatever. But once you hit 6 family members travel anywhere becomes a connected rooms/jumbo suite big deal.

Of course, the cost of living goes up. We just recently became a 2lb family. When we make spaghetti now, we need 2lb of ground beef and more sauce to feed everyone.

Also as they older, every added kid and their activities pile up. Our youngest just turned 6 and ever since he's gotten into sports the schedule complexity has blown up. Looking forward to the oldest being able to drive.

This isn't to discourage people from 4. It's a fun, wild ride.

My 8th grader got into St. John's! The counselor told me about it last night, early, because he was excited to get him. The boy has been diagnosed with autism and is enduring his third straight year in public junior high of being called the "school retard" and being fucked with in general. He's had his lunch kit and drinking bottle, new versions each time, stolen from him 3 times in the past week. It's been hard for a kid who really loves school and learning but has no idea how to handle many human interactions. Anyway, he tested off the charts for private school and his grades are absurd, so he somehow overcame the interviewing process and got his #1 pick. My wife cried with happiness and relief.

Congrats. Don't know Houston but sounds like a good fit. Middle school is tough on spectrum kids. My son was going through lunch money quickly. We figured out kids were making him buy them snacks. He ended up becoming the school mascot so he would sit with the cheerleaders. Sounds great to normies but they were just the kids that were nice to him.

Fortunately it seems like high school has gotten a little better. I think bully kids have moved on and matured slightly. He's generally well liked but he definitely has trouble making more than surface connections.

Ok venting done. All that is to say that the battles change and continue, but fortunately middle school appears to be the worst. You and your wife seem to be on the right track.  Good luck.

they are an actual company but they are quickly moving to a bitcoin holding company. What I don't know is if their revenues and bitcoin holdings support their market cap. Didn't Saylor recently take on some low interest bonds with the intent of only buying crypto?

My assumption is that many investors are using MSTR as a proxy for bitcoin because some brokerage firms don't allow trading in bitcoin ETFs and/or the investor has no clue how to buy bitcoin. As those subside, I have to wonder if MSTR will see a significant drop. Since I can buy the bitcoin ETF, it's time that I sell MSTR to lock in my profits. At least a decent percent of it.

As long as Vanguard is a no to the ETFs, I think there will be a premium to MSTR. How much remains to be seen. I’m going to hold for now since its behavior has been consistent.

Less than a month ago, I bought MSTR from my Roth IRA. Not a major buy. About 0.33% of my total retirement fund. That buy is up 83% since I bought. Probably the best purchase ever from my retirement fund. But I haven't sold yet.

    Congrats that's awesome!

I'm not sure what to make of Microstrategy. It's trading at more than twice the value of its bitcoin. During the last cycle that "premium" jumped to 6x. I don't see how it can make it that high this cycle when there's ETFs. People looking for proxies are what boosted it that high last time. That's why I don't understand the current 2x. I will continue to hold though. Still some interesting catalysts like S&P inclusion and of course animal spirits during bull run.
