  1. Two thoughts. One, I think the show runners were fucking with us with the acoustic guitar. Like, let’s make a crazy set that would not have survived and start an even more over-the-top musical number…and then just kidding. Two, flat, potato face with dead eyes works well at the end.

    Was hoping for Cardinal Sarah.

Same. I held my breath when they said, “Robertum”. I like his books and social media, but, TBH, I’m not sure about his administrative skills. My only memory from his time at CDW was him telling my bishop to issue something under his own imprimatur because of the intentional logjam in his dicastery.

I have a theoretical question about the federal layoffs. A friend sold his home and business and relocated his family for a high-level, essential position in the federal government in a non at-will state. From my understanding general layoffs and downsizing are not protected, however, in the state. The first year in federal employment is a probationary period. If the government decided to lay him off within the probationary period simply due to downsizing, would he have any recourse?

In a proper RIF? No protections.

Fired without cause as a probationary employee as part of an illegal RIF? Can pursue an OCI or MSPB appeal or whatever applies to his position.

If the appeal leads to reinstatement, he would want to try to time it after the agency does its RIFs. Probationary employees are only above rehired annuitants and term employees when it comes to seniority. However, even that may not matter. GSA, for example, RIF’d entire departments without regard for the normal order of things.

I bring my normal toothpaste through ever time and, knock on wood, haven't been flagged yet. TSA pre check?

I take Colgate powdered toothpaste to avoid problems. (It’s imported from India and has “extra Rakshak”.) The metal container got screened at DFW once because it somewhat resembles a flask.

  5. I haven’t used Linux on a daily basis in almost 20 years and I haven’t used it regularly in 10+. It was more or less good enough for everything but gaming back then, if you were tech-savvy. Are you a frequent Windows terminal user? An advanced DOS user? Then using Linux has been easy for years. Even if that’s not the case, if your hardware is supported, which it usually is, then it’s been pretty easy for years.

Due to the age of hardware or other issues, sometimes Linux performs better than Windows with certain driver issues. You can search online to figure that out for your computer. As long as online Google office or Office 365 works for you, there isn’t much reason to use Windows.

He obviously can't use it in Kursk.  He can't use it in Crimea because it'll kill/poison a fuckload of Russian civilians, and because he claims Crimea = Russia, and nuking Russia is not a good look for him.

You sure? The Russkies would love him nuking Kursk. That’s in the grandest scorched-earth Russian tradition.

  7. Watched the movie on a plane this week. It’s a comic book origin story. It’s not the best of the genre. It has the normal sterility and blatantly obvious foreshadowing of every major international market release of the last 15-20 years. It was a good way to kill some time on a flight. Wouldn’t watch again except as background noise.

This dude has a college degree, has been a teacher for over a decade so he makes alright money (relatively to some other incels), and he's a really nice guy so some woman would assuredly be ok with him being a bit immature in tastes as a grown man. He just doesn't give himself a chance and I'm sure there are plenty of other incels that fit into his category that just don't really know what to do or where they fit in society.

If he can’t get laid working in education, he won’t get laid.

Flight was delayed getting into LAS they said this was why, traffic also been a mess. Minor inconvenience of course but damn you could see the scene in the air and it was wild. /csb I guess but this shit is fucked up.

this could have been worse line that’s the new norm is insane

My flight out of LAS was on time, but a colleague was delayed leaving because the pilots were stuck in the traffic. We barely missed the road closures. Our Uber had a pissed off cop yelling at us, trying to shut down traffic on the way to the airport.
