  1. My favorite place to stay is La Posada. Right at the gate of the park and great people who take care of you. Have a 2 bedroom apt. Upstairs with open balcony. Monkeys will come play right beside it. Have to book early cause they fill up fast but worth it.

Also nothing better than going to sports bar down the road when CR national team is playing.

I'll add on to the requests as well.  Family is going up there weekend after this one on a college visit.  Wouldn't mind some suggestions for moderate dinner/lunch/breakfast places, and definite sights to see in the central city (other than mont royal, of course).

    Brisket

Don't remember the names of the markets but for breakfast just find the biggest open air market and have coffee and a pastry.

Lunch is downtown "smoked meat" sammiches. Not great like Texas q but still good sandwich.

Really appreciate the info I got on this thread a year ago. It resulted in one of the best vacations my family has ever had, if not the best. We hit the Arenal area and the Quepos/Manual Antonio area, staying at Tulemar (amazing).

On my bucket list is to land either a sailfish or marlin. I’m not a huge deep sea fisherman, but in about 10 trips in Hawaii for marlin, and a few other places, I’m o’fer. I want to head down to Costa Rica with the wife and a friend and try to catch sailfish or marlin. What month would you guys go, and where would be the best place?

Sailfish are nice but to me roosters are more fun. Off of quepos you should live bait around the rocks. Also can be scary when tide is up and boat gets close to rocks.

All of the fishing around there are easy to get to due depth change close to shore.

Have fun and get us some pics so I can get off my ass and book another trip.

There was a thread started after the USC game where someone put a post supposedly from a USC fan saying what a great time he had at the game.  It took about 5 posts on Surly before someone was calling bullshit.

    Oh I definitely remember that.

There was a few suckers got pulled in before it became clear.

  5. Need to start a poll on this.

    1. A Surly trolling aggy.

    2. One of the 10-12 self “aware” aggy is trolling Surly and aggy.

    3. Not possible cause mammals who can breathe and procreate are not possible to be that stupid.

This will be good. There are plenty of players and pushed to the sideline guys under the new regime that will have no problem squealing on their way out.

If and I say If the NCAA does a semi legit investigation one of the kids or coaches will trip over their own dicks.

Also kids being recruited will be asked questions by NCAA. Some one will want to save their own ass and talk.

Will Jimbo be fired “with cause” so ag can get out of not paying him.

    So much fun.

A Texas fan giving props to Memphis BBQ. That's rich.

BBQ? Good lord that shit ain’t BBQ. Ate there last year cause it was close to hotel. The absolute worst ribs I have ever tried to eat. They are worse than a chili’s boiled ribs.

    Back to football talk. Sorry

I have flown every other week since April.

Ok. One thing I loved coming from US Air was rolling spend for upgrade. Old AA would give upgrade priority to early bookers. Us last minute full price suckers would get to sit in back.

Until you fly 100K plus 12K spend a year. you are a friendly nuisance to AA. To do 100K miles a year you have to fly basically every week or fly coast to coast. The other way is buy first and get more “eqm”.

The good old days are gone and flying isn’t near as fun or lucrative as it used to be. The funny thing is I will be lifetime platinum this year and the one thing I WILL not do when I retire is fly any where.

I've talked to a few people who have lamented that AA's changes have made it harder over the last year or 18 months. You have to have a combination of revenue and qualified miles flown.

Here is the thing with the Aviator card or whatever the try to sell on the flights; even if don't level you up on status, can you at least get something better than Group 6? My gosh, what's a guy got to do to get some status?

Haha. You have to fly on OPM. Other people’s money. Basically status is overrated unless you fly every week. I am an EXP based in DFW with about 24K a year spend and Monday or Friday flights are a crap shoot to get upgrades.

All the airlines have finally got smart and started pricing 1st domestic reasonable. Us lowly people can’t buy that and have to sweat it.

Go to Flyertalk for lots of good info on maximizing your airline stuff

  10. Ok. Long time lurker who just discovered thread.

Take craptastic store bought corn tortillas and cut in half. Fry up ONLY in a pan. DO NOT deep fry. Fry until almost burnt. (Dark brown). Put what ever toppings you like. I like homemade refry’s, brisket, cheddar, pickled japs. Crema after oven. Do it individual style.
